ayy i love that this one is from remus’s pov, and of course it’s envy for the deadly sin - the way you introduced lily evans into this little vibey relationship or whatever it is between remus and james was just amazing, calling her a green-eyed monster from how remus sees her just because he also sees how much james is into her from the looks he gives lily was great. especially love the way it ties into envy and the colour green and all that, it was a great play on words!
but god you kill me with that last part with how remus is so so busy staring at james who is staring at lily and being jealous and envious of lily that he never actually sees when james looks at him and that hurts but it’s so well written and kinda realistic, i feel like? it’s easy to get lost inside your own head and anguish, especially when it comes to remus who we know always thinks himself unworthy of love and friendship and all those good things in life that him not realising just how much james cares…it’s heartbreaking!

oh my god i cackled at the way james is so hilariously funny about his antlers and the fact that *remus* said they were ostentatious, but i wholeheartedly agree with sirius that super fancy deer antlers were definitely a very james thing and nobody should have expected otherwise.
but sirius teasing james about the antlers falling off and then james being all like what the fuck they don’t fall off but they sooo do and i love that he’s so scandalised, i can just imagine the look on his face being all pouty and surprised!
i would love to read about his antlers when they do, in fact fall off because that would be another hilarious story!
the ending with james touching the back of his head to find his nonexistent antlers also made me giggle because he was almost like a little kid at that point. and i doubt he didn’t have at least some sort of control into how his antlers would look but on the other hand becoming an animagus is a weird thing so idk idk
but damn his annoyance that he’s trying so hard to conceal because he’s prideful is kinda cute. james is cute when he’s secretly annoyed and i love that

bah james as a glutton is such a james potter thing, i can very easily imagine him being that way, especially after a quidditch practice. describing his starved eating as ‘inhaling his dinner’ made me laugh because it’s a super funny way to imagine it!
but the fact that even starved and in the middle of this obviously very important dinner, james did notice that remus wasn’t eating, that he was just uselessly moving stuff around on his plate warmed my lil heart because idk, i think it just speaks so much to this vibe (kinda?) between them?
and the concern james feels for remus was also just really really nice, i loved the way he decided to force him to eat at least a little something, even after remus refused by moving the plate towards james, and with james joking that he has the entire night to do this also made me smile because even in this moment he managed to joke around a little bit which i feel is very in character for james - he’s stubborn and lol remus knows it!
kris / ss voyager
LOLZ. That's mostly directed at James with his little humor injections here. But like, yes, in that moment where one person's kind of like self-conscious about making it good for the other person, but doesn't know how/if they can? It's necessary and relevant for these characters.
This was soft and sweet and considerate and I loved it. I also love how you describe the kissing in poetic terms. It feels dreamy and sleepy and exactly the sort of extracurricular activity that would make sleep easier when you're doing it with a person who totally gets you and just wants to be with you in anyway that you're willing to give.
Lovely, truly!

Also, tag, tag, taggity, tag!
Daaawwww. I love all the little details in this one! Like from the inclusion of (possibly?) a young Rosmerta to the invisibility cloak, to the charm to shrink or make the bottles weightless or something in their bags, and Remus is all, yeah this is wearing off xD
And of course Remus' "why me?" sort of question regarding this little, forbidden excursion. And James being all "shut up, here's why logically," while also maybe feeling or thinking some other not so logical things. ;)
And that subtle little kiss moment at the end. AGAIN WITH THE EYYYYYES. Before the push pull of hesitating and just "going for it," you created between these two. Perfect ending for this little drabble!
<3 Courtney
Oh shit this is intense! I think Sirius' foolhardiness definitely takes over in a lot of his actions and he doesn't consider all angles of them, including the consequences. But that could arguably be the teenage boy in him whose been trained to repress the majority of his true emotions. Another discussion for another day though about growing up in the Black fam.
I love this take of canon events though through the lens of James telling Sirius off. I feel if one person could do this effectively it would be James. And I also feel like James calling Remus "Moony," here is just overall sweet. Even though it's like a cohort pet name, in this moment it carries weight because we feel him caring beyond what is just "normal protective friendness." Especially bc he essentially tells Sirius to "eff off," without actually doing so. And that means something given the depth of their friendship.
Another great drabble here! You convey depth of emotions with so few words quite excellently!
<3 Courtney
PS...TAG!
Author's Response:Yayyy thank you for checking these out! Yeah I just... even without any romantic feelings, I imagine this as the only possible way James could have reacted. Sirius isn't a bad person, and like you say, his teenaged brain isn't even fully developed to appreciate all of the long term consequences of his actions, but it was definitely way over the line, and James knew it immediately which is why he went after Snape to pull him back. And not only could that have injured or killed Snape, but if that had happened Remus's life would be OVER.
I personally imagine that this was probably the biggest test of the Marauders' friendship second only to the point in the war where they started suspecting one another as spies. Like I can't imagine James any other way than furious with Sirius. And Sirius has a great pride about him, more so than James, I think, and a bit of a cruel streak (no doubt with roots in his upbringing) and is overly cavalier especially when he's defensive about something.
Anyway, also, if it helps towards contextualizing any of this (bc I probably wasn't able to do a great job of it given the word limits) up to this drabble here Remus and James are not yet a couple and don't even know they each have feelings. :)
tysm for reviewing these! <3
Gosh Mel, I loved the subtly of just STARING at someone you are enamored with in this and how LOOKS can inspire envy. And also the fact that Remus doesn't realize just how loved he is or how curiously attracted to or whatever James is to him...it makes me a little swoony.
Also bisexuality is something that's represented in a way of ppl not understanding or feeling feels of jealousy as a result of not understanding and you do that here a little bit, but it's not done in a malicious way. I think Remus is having like a realization moment of "oh damn, this is who James is," and feels a little insecure about it, but I think that's just Remus in general. But again. James is into him. And checking him out. And I love it. Ok, more of this boo.
<3 Courtney
“Remus says my antlers are ostentatious.”
BAHAHAHA. Why. Is. This. SO. Funny though? I think the way I imagine him saying it, based on the convo tag, but honestly what a killer opening! (But also James Potter saying ostentacious, sounds like he was having some kind of dictionary date with Remus to learn words to sound more pretentious maybe? Like idk. This is where my head is going lol.)
"His attention was focused on trying to charm Muggle vinyl records to play on a magical gramophone." Oh lord, yes! I love this little detail here.
And oh god, James. I'm dying dude. This whole conversation is ridiculous, but the way that he's taking it so seriously. It's amazing. 10/10 for humor here. Even with him trying to act all affronted, I cannot take him seriously hah.
The end was cute though. Like a determined, petulent child who refuses to believe something someone else knows more about than him. Great application on this one!
<3 Courtney
Author's Response:Can I tell you how much effing fun it was to write this? XD It actually might be my favorite drabble I've ever written, or close to it. The snarky, deprecating banter between these two.
And James just being like... all surprised pikachu face that his magnificent antlers (which he totally is not personally invested in as some sort of metaphor for his masculinity, OBVIOUSLY not) might fall off.
I just sort of imagined it would come up randomly like Remus just taking the piss out of him, like 'why your antlers gotta be so extra, what are you compensating for.' :joy: And James really is kind of a peacock and full of himself so Sirius is like 'yeah dude, literally nobody is surprised that your antlers are so fucking unnecessarily large.'
Ooh more of these, yaya! BTW tag (I think, unless there's an invisible lurker xD)!
Why does it not surprise me at all that James Potter is totally glutton? Or is that just a testament to your writing? My vote is on option two, informing option one. So excellent job, you!
I also always love how you write bros being bros together. Like seriously it's always so perfect! And ok, so maybe James and Remus aren't bros (I won't pull a "Harold they're lesbians" moment here), but relationship or not, there's a natural comraderie here that is lovely. And if they are a couple right in the moment of time within this drabble that makes me go "dawwe." And if they are not then, you can bet that when they get there I will still go "dawwe." Because James being a gluttonous teenage boy, who is still considerate af to ensure his Remus eats. We love to see you take a prompt like this and flip it in some unexpected way. Loved this!
<3 Courtney
Aww... more cuteness... I love this so much!
I love James just being there for Remus, keeping him company and a bit of comfort after the full moon... even if he had to pretend a nonexistent illness and put repelling charms against Madam Pomfrey to do so :P
And I love how you close this with the "I'll be here anyway" line. I don't know if you did it in purpose (probably not...) but it makes it feel like coming full circle, since you started the collection with that "I'm here all night" It's like a recurrent theme throughout the drabbles, James being there for Remus, whether he wants him to or not. And I love it so much!
And the image of them, just lying next to each other... it's just so lovely, I just love the way you handled their relationship and how it evolved through the years, and I loved the way you used the seven sins theme, as well! So cleverly done!
Thank you so much for gifting me with a smile today! <3
Big snowball hug,

Hi, Melanie, I'm back!
I decided that I needed more James/Remus fluffiness, so here I am! <3
I really loved this chapter! A lot! And I have to commend your choice of making Remus ace, it's rare to find this kind of representation, and I think you handled it wonderfully! And it's just so cute, how Remus doesn't feel "whatever teenage boys are supposed to be feeling" but he's still happy of having James close, of the affection. And I adore James for understanding and not pushing him for more... "Trust me, I'm perfectly happy sorting that out myself later." That's such a James thing to say, but I love it in context because it really shows his care and respect, and I love that!
I can't handle how cute they are... thank you for this brilliant collection! <3
Love,
Chiara
Ooooh... something definitely transpired here... am I right? I like to imagine a kiss happened in this moment... or anyway, something... I'm shipping them a lot! They are so cute! <3
I love the way you built this, btw! I love the idea of them sneaking in with enough libations to get all of Gryffindor House completely smashed -- only they didn't plan to share it with all of Gryffindor. That's so typical Marauders and I love it!
Ah, James, are you sure those are the reasons you asked Remus, and not just because you wanted an excuse to spend time with him alone? :P
Another super cute drabble, my dear! <3
Big snowball hug,
Chiara
Okay, this was intense. But yes, I agree with you, totally how James would react, feelings for Remus or not. And I can't blame him, either, because what Sirius did that time was inexcusable. But the fact that in this story James has feelings for Remus makes it all the more emotional... and yes, horrible as the consequences could've been for Snape (who might not be the best person in the world but still didn't deserve that treatment), the consequences for Remus might've been just as terrible, and Sirius should really have thought about it!
Another great chapter! You really captured the characters and the tension of the moment brilliantly! Great writing as usual! Just so, so good!
Snowball hug,
Chiara
Back for tag! :D
Aww... poor Remus... :(
It must be so hard, having feelings for someone and seeing that someone watching someone else... at first I was a bit put off by the green-eyed monster, I had no idea what you were talking about, then I realized it was Lily. You really get the sense of their teenage mindset here, of first crushes, watching from a distance, the pettiness of wanting to hate your rival (I had to roll my eyes at that, but it also amused me a little bit :P)
And aww... James is actually watching Remus, too, but Remus is too busy being jealous to notice... that's so sad and so sweet at the same time! <3
This was another adorable, little drabble! Love it so much! <3 <3 <3
Big snowball hug,
Chiara
Ahahah! Poor James! :D
I actually didn't know that about deers... but Sirius is right, if that happened to James he would totally be in a state... :P James' defensive reaction was hilarious, too, and the way he patted his head, almost as if searching for his antlers... and now that you mention it, I think James' Animagus form does reflect pretty well his showing-off side... I never really thought about it, but it's perfect! And the way you write it in this drabble is perfect! Your characterization is spot on and your writing is delightful, just so so good! <3
I'll need to come back and read the rest of the collection soon, it's brilliant so far!
Big snowball hug,
Chiara
Author's Response:I seriously can't remember how I first learned this about deer -- that they shed their antlers seasonally -- but it wasn't very long before I thought up this drabble. And it got me thinking about like, would James's animagus form shed its antlers as well, considering he spends 95% of his time as a human? I don't know but from there I just got this really funny idea about James having his ego tied to his antlers, lol.
Thank you again!
<3 Melanie
Hey, Melanie! Here for tag!
And since I'm up to date with Irrational (you should hurry, lady, just saying... :P) I decided to check what else was on your AP and... I realized I meant to read this collection since forever and never did! :O
And... aww... this first drabble is already so adorable! <3 James taking care of Remus is something that always fills me with joy, and this moment was just so tender... <3 How are they both so cute?
I just really loved how you built the scene, with James declaring that he's starving and filling his plate with food with no regard for anything/anyone else (so typical of James, made me chuckle, lol) But as soon as he noticed Remus's behaviour, his focus immediately shifted on his friend's wellbeing, and I adore that! (Again, so very James-like <3)
"I'm here all night, mate," I love it so much! Remus might be stubborn, but James is even more so, especially when it is about taking care of his friends. Remus just can't win. :P
Loved this soooo much!
Big snowball hug,
Chiara
Author's Response:Ahh thank you for reading and reviewing this, Chiara!! <3 I really hope you'll enjoy it.
I've always associated James with leadership, and being a good leader, looking out for everyone. Maybe even like the group dad. And one of the most striking things about the Marauders, I think, is their devotion to one another and watching out for each other and going above a beyond like they did for Remus, and I totally think it would be a thing like, in the week before the full moon we all keep an eye on Moony and make sure he's practicing self-care but I think James would be the most on top of it.
And yes he is a growing teenaged boy first, lol, one who's just come from Quidditch practice and needs to eat everything in sight. :P
Thank youuuu! <3
Hi Melanie, I’m back for another duel!
My boyyys! They’re so adorable, and I’m so soft, Melanie, thank you so much for writing this!
Everything about this is perfect! Remus knowing that he needs company after the full moon, because he is exhausted and hurt, but not wanting to admit that out loud to anyone else, and James seeing straight through his fake poise, but still allowing Remus his brave face anyway!
And James is so sweet, and so delicate with Remus, and my heart just melts – but even when they’re the epitome of adorable, you still manage to tie in the humour they’re so famous for! James attempts at pretending to be ill are about as effective as that one scene in Mean Girls where Karen coughs and goes ‘I’m sick’, and I honestly love that for him!
Love, Julia
Hi Melanie, I’m back for another duel :D
This was so sweet! Thank you, James, for respecting boundaries! Not that I’d ever expect anything less of him, but still, it’s nice to see! I also feel like breaking up an awkward situation with humour is very on brand for James, just as it is on brand for Remus to apologise for things that don’t need apologising, so your characterisations and their dynamics are perfect as always!
I’m also really curious as to how much of their relationship they’ve let slip to the others – it seems like they’re keeping it secret for the most part since they’re only kissing behind closed curtains, although that could just be for the benefit of their dorm mates. I kind of feel like they’ve at least told Peter, but maybe he’d just do what James tells him to, no questions asked.
I also love how you’ve sort of linked it back to the first drabble, in that James’ behaviour is a more traditional, more obvious connection to the deadly sin that served as inspiration for this drabble, whereas with Remus it’s inverted, and he doesn’t actually experience that sensation!
I also really loved that second-to-last line, “safe, contented, adored”! That’s exactly what Remus needs!
Hi, Melanie, I’m back again, this time for the duelling!
!!!
How dare you tease me like that at the end! I neeeed to seeee! But, seriously that’s just so effective and such a wonderful way to end the chapter for the reader (read: me) to fill in all the details which is such a clever way to end a drabble, when you need it to be short and sweet! I know I complained about that very sneaky move in the beginning, but I actually ain’t mad about it :P
And all the details in this are so perfect, your characterisations of my two boys are spot on! With Remus being so shy, but James just going for it! I especially loved James’ ‘idiotic grin that he barely managed to conceal’ – it’s just so sweet and so fundamentally James, I love it!
This one is my favourite yet! I just love to see them carefree and happy, and they’re so adorable with each other! I’ll be back very soon for more!
Love, Julia
Hi, Melanie, I’m back again for the HC finale!
Yes, James, get him!!! Like, Sirius is so infuriating in this! Remus just very narrowly escaped what could have been the worst event of his life and would have impacted his life so f#cking much, and Sirius doesn’t even realise it? And even with James having saved Snape, that’s still going to be so utterly traumatising and Remus is going to blame himself so much, and Sirius doesn’t show an ounce of remorse??
James’ anger here is so incredibly justified, and I’m impressed he managed to keep it in check as much as he did! Like, James just has such an innate sense of right and wrong, and I have no doubt that he would have absolutely sided with Remus, even if Sirius may have technically been his best friend – because Sirius behaviour was just inexcusable here.
And that scene would have been so emotional even without any romantic attraction, but with that in the back of my mind, James’ raw emotions and hurt come across even more prominently and, god, I love this!
I also kind of want to punch Sirius in the face, seeing as James didn’t. (Like, I don’t normally condone violence, obviously, but Sirius is really making me question my principles here.)
Love, Julia
Hi Melanie, I’m back for the HC finale!
Oh, Remus! Poor baby! It’s so sad to think that Remus thinks so little of himself that he thinks he’s not worth James’ attention, but at the same time, that’s such a quintessentially Remus characteristic – like, I hate that he thinks that way, but at the same time I think it’s a very realistic way of portraying his character! :(
If only Remus could see how James looks at him! And realise that everything James does for him isn’t just out of platonic affection!
I also really loved the phrase ‘green-eyed monster’, I’ve seen so many portrayals of Remus calling himself a monster that I really liked the parallel there! And it reminds me of the phrase ‘green with envy’, so that’s such a perfect detail to focus on for this prompt!
Love, Julia
Hi Melanie, I’m back for the HC finale!
Ohmygod, James is so precious!! I can positively see him sulking because he’s so put off!
There’s a fine line between charmingly confident and annoyingly arrogant and I think James likes to jump back and forth over it quite a lot! I’m sure Remus didn’t even mean that comment as criticism, and Sirius too thinks the news that James is ostentatious is about as surprising as being told water is wet, but James is so offended by it! I absolutely love it!
And how distraught he is at the possibility of them falling off! Priceless! I hadn’t ever considered it, but I guess they would fall off in spring (spring? I know nothing about deer, help!) just like any other stags, and I can see James being really self-conscious about that!
I really loved the image of Sirius accidentally melting his records, too!
This was so funny, Melanie, I love it!!
Love, Julia
Hi Melanie, I’m here for the HC finale!
I love how you took the gluttony prompt and turned it upside down, so that it’s just as much about not eating as it is about actually eating! And I loved how, even though this is such a short piece, you’ve managed to fit all four of the Marauders in there, and I got a real sense of their dynamic!
I love how concerned James is for Remus, and I really liked that little detail about Peter’s nigh imperceptible shake of the head – clearly, they’ve done this often enough that it’s no surprise to any of them if Remus doesn’t east, and they know exactly how to get him to finally acquiesce! It was really sweet to see James and Peter coming together as a team to make sure Remus takes care of himself!
I really enjoyed this Melanie, and I’ll be checking out more of these drabbles later! And I love 'stagnight' as ship name for Remus/James!
Love, Julia
Last one! I love your take on sloth for this drabble series -- it’s different to what is typically thought of for “sloth” as a deadly sin, which is usually laziness or slowness to do tasks. Your interpreting it as also sloth being apathetic in the mind and mental state is unique and makes a lot of sense for the James/Remus pairing. Of course Remus would feel like shit after the full moon and not really be at full mental speed like normal, so James will absolutely pretend to be ill to spend time with his mate. The little quip about Madam Pomfrey was nice too -- cheeky of James, but that’s also peak James, so, it’s fitting. :P Honestly now that I’ve read all of these drabbles that are James/Remus based, I am really into this pairing now and will be looking forward to more of those fics from you, Melanie! Wonderful work on these! :)

Another one! YES IT’S LUST AND IT’S JAMES AND REMUS YESSSSSSSSS! I mean, I know this drabble series is focused around them but shh let me enjoy it :P I love that this is still in their Hogwarts years so they think they’re being sneaky in the dormitory by kicking Peter out, but I have to ask you -- what about the fifth boy who’s supposed to be living with them in that space? Lolol JK I don’t really care….but actually *eyes emoji* Ahem, so, I love the way you’ve gone about writing this one -- it’s lust, yes, but because they’re still teenage boys, it’s pretty tame in that regard. We love to see a good old fashioned makeout session, with the added knowledge these boys are setting specific boundaries with each other, as is mentioned in their brief conversation before they get back to the matter at hand, which is kissing each other. Ah, yes this was perfect, Melanie!
