The tone in the summary definitely did not match the opening scene of this LEMME TELL YOU. I was laying in bed thinking wow this is definitely not what I thought I was walking into but I was not disappointed! I love the tone and general vibe that you've given Remus, I think it makes him totally relatable and likeable as a narrator. Also I just went fucking wild at the fact that the first thing he does when faced with such opulence is vibe check the play and find that it did not pass. I can only imagine how conflicted Regulus must be feeling in all of this and how powerless because he probably doesn't agree with his mother, judging by his reaction to her letter, but there's no way for him to stop it because he's dependent on her financially.
I love how flustered Remus becomes when confronted with a ridiculously attractive man AND WHEN HE BLURTED OUT "CONGRATULATIONS" WAS SO FUNNY because honestly what else was he going to say in that situation the whole thing is so absurd. God I love how smoothly and easy the dialogue between Sirius and Remus is and how easy it was for him to get Sirius's number. (Also how just,,,,,,in shock he is that this is happening to him is such a MOOD). If only real life interactions were that easy and smooth.
hey kayla!
WHY NOT READ THIS BEFORE???
omg, this is such a delight to read honestly, i'm in awe about how you can write both angsty but these really fun au too. the concept is genius, I love that it's from an advert, that's amazing random inspiration and i'm here for it. I think the app idea in itself in hilarious and Sirius' mum using it to disown him? That's mental but somehow totally believeable that she would do something as batshit crazy as that.
I love your characterisation for Remus, I love the dorky side in his character like with slight feeling about not being good enough, like the vulnerability there is always kinda endearing, i think you're good at keeping him quite close to canon in some ways but giving him your own twist. I was willing Remus to be swept off his feet by dashing Sirius.
Sirius' character was brilliant too, I love how kinda open and bold his character is in this. It's great that he isn't so bothered about his mother because living his life is more important, being the person that he meant to be. I love how natural his flirting with Remus is, he makes it seem easy. The chemistry between the two was very played! I'm rooting for them. I love the mention of the motorbike from canon too.
I hope these two see each other again! I feel like I need closure, the ending was cute but I love these two get together. that's an amazing love story <3333 thanks for making me smile with these beautiful characters!

Hi there, I’m here for the HC finale!
I absolutely love the premise for this! I love the strange mixture of a formal disownment letter and delivering it via a courier hired by an app! And of course Walburga Black is horribly behind the times in any reality, so the fact that she wouldn’t know how to use apps makes a lot of sense – she’s also one of the most unpleasant women no matter the universe, and I already can’t stand her patronising, snobbish behaviour!
I adore Remus’ reaction to seeing Sirius, it’s so endearing how floored he is! I love how internally flustered he is by Sirius, even as he tries to maintain airs about his professionalism!
Uggh, Walburga (and the rest of the Blacks) are such bastards! The contents of that letter were utterly abhorrent, though not surprising given who wrote them. I’m glad Sirius sees it as humorous, even if he is clearly disappointed and annoyed by Regulus’s betrayal!
On an unrelated note, I’m also feeling super sorry for Remus, his job at Dumpstr must be awful – not only is the pay ridiculously low if he has to scrape by on tips, it must also regularly put him in really dangerous situations. The fact that he was kind of anticipating a punch from Sirius makes me think that wouldn’t have been the first time something like that happened. My poor boy!
This was so fun! I really adored your characterisation of Remus, and I loved his and Sirius’s dynamic!
Love, Julia
Honestly this had me hooked just by the description. Dumpstr? GENIUS. Remus/Sirius? I'M IN.
Oh man, Walburga disowning him by Dumpstr courier/messenger is brutal, but also totally on brand. Likewise with Sirius being so over the homophobia and thrilled with the subsequent disowning. What a King.
I really like how you showed the relationship between the two brothers too - brief little hints of affection for each other (the apology, the disappointment), but also so brief that you really captured the distance between them because of their family. I love little things like that.
The minute I read the line about the rum and coke I could taste it, which says more about me than this story to be honest.
Sirius and his motorbike was wonderful. And a blushing Remus will always be a fave. What a lovely little one-shot lad - thank you!
hi kayla, here with your challenge entry review!
okay, so the entire premise of this is absolutely fucking hilarious. i could’ve sworn i’d heard about a break-up service thing like this before so i googled the adidas ad and i’m like 99% sure i watched it in one of my advertising classes in college, lol.
“Also - and there was no other way he could possibly put this - its vibes were terrible.” lmao this line was incredible
anyways, breaking up with people is one level of awkward, but disowning someone’s son for them is truly a whole new level of awkward. honestly, poor remus during that entire interaction with walburga and regulus.
but then sirius just taking the whole thing in stride is hilarious. it definitely makes sense that he’d really be over things at this point, and he’s definitely just having a laugh at the absurdity of things at this point. and truly, walburga’s letter was nothing short of absurd. i mean, the homophobic nature of it is absolutely despicable, but like…… wow you’re really gonna go with “you have made it clear that you place more value on sodomy than you do on your family's honour”??? ma’am. *insert taylor swift you need to calm down gif here*
i love awkward remus so much. i love him i love him i love him.
“This day was already fucking weird enough; he might as well risk death by accepting a motorcycle ride from a very hot stranger.” this was the point where i just started actually cackling out loud, this entire story is so hilarious and great but for some reason *this* was the moment that broke me lmao
hehe but i love sirius just immediately propositioning this stranger with rum and then with a ride on his motorbike - this was just such a hilarious and great way for the two of them to meet, i loved it.
thanks for entering in my challenge, i immensely enjoyed this!!

KAYLA I’M HOWLING THIS IS THE BEST WOLFSTAR I’VE EVER READ. YOU’VE REALLY OUTDONE YOURSELF. I love how you’ve incorporated this rather obscure and somewhat unethical business into your story, hahaha! I think I vaguely remember seeing some viral tweets about this…? Okay, wait a minute. I just Googled “Dumpstr” and could not for the life of me find anything about this break-up app, so maybe I made it up. :P
IN ANY CASE THIS WAS FAB. Everyone’s role was so perfect in this modern AU -- Remus as the stiff, deeply unhappy deliverer of bad news, Walburga as an almost comical Rich Old-Fashioned Lady, Sirius (!!!) as the super hot, easygoing fellow! I MEAN. I realize this is an AU but can this just be canon! :P Walburga really made me cackle in this story; her image was exaggerated just the right amount. Of COURSE she would send someone else to officially disown Sirius -- she obviously wouldn’t let Regulus come into contact with his brother, and she’s just too imperious to do it herself. I LOVE IT.
I completely should’ve expected that Sirius would just guffaw at the letter -- which was, admittedly, completely ridiculous in its degree of homophobia and extra-ness -- but I, too, was worried while Remus worried! His worrying tendencies just seeped into my soul.
Gosh, can you imagine Walburga’s reaction as she plays back the recorded disowning? She’ll probably hear her son laughing at her for the rest of the life. :D
HAHA that bit about Remus’s ~vibes~ somehow gave me ridiculous John Mulaney vibes. :P Remus as a John Mulaney? Yes, please. He has that same natural awkwardness, the same bookish vibe...anyway. VERY glad Sirius decided to invite Remus in. THEY’RE SO CUTE. :D
There were lots of caps in this review because I was IMMENSELY pleased. Thank you, Kayla, for writing this!! Favoriting this story immediately. :D
Love,
Eva
