i love your good omens fics and this one was just adorably brilliant! i love how all this hugging business starts out as crowley using it as temptation but then he vaguely ends up liking them and accidentally decides to also introduce aziraphale to hugging (with absolutely no ulterior motive, none whatsoever) who is just so awkward at first, and even crowley is awkward, but i love that he is determined to continue teaching aziraphale no matter the awkwardness. i love how then they slowly progress to more and more hanging out together and then kissing on the cheek! which was somehow so fitting for the two of them, they're just enjoying each other's company and might be in love with each other, but sex doesn't interest them and i love that crowley manages to kinda surprise aziraphale but in a good way, it was just beautiful and wonderfully written, romantic with bits of humour sprinkled throughout and i loved that.
(for foxy glory!)
Oh my God, Emma, I’m so happy you’re writing Good Omens fics! I just recently finished the show and now I’m ever so slightly ObsessedTM. I’m also stopping by for the House Cup Finale!
I’m sorry this review is going to be mostly ramble-y and shouty, but I just love your characterisation of both Azi and Crowley so much! (I actually coo-ed out loud reading this. Multiple times.) They’re such Incredibly Dumb Dorks, and I love them for it! I also loved the build-up to the actual exchange, of how Crowley originally used hugs and physical contact to tempt people and do evil, but then just grew to love hugging, like he did with the rest of the world and humanity in general, and how he was then just overwhelmed by affection for Aziraphale that he’s definitely in denial about.
And of course, Crowley is just helping Aziraphale out by teaching him how to hug, there’s absolutely no higher motivation behind it, and if it leads to the two of them hanging out and having tea together, he can’t really help it, can he? And that kiss on the cheek was so incredibly sweet, I’m dying! I also absolutely adore that you’ve written them both as ace (I mean, I’m biased, but still), and the way they decide to stick to cheek kisses is positively endearing. I particularly loved Azi’s characterisation in that scene, like he expected Crowley to turn him down because he doesn’t want to have sex, and he assumes that Crowley, as a demon, must want to have a more physical relationship.
Your tone of voice in this was so perfect, too! I loved how Crowley kept admonishing himself for not being ‘enough of a demon’, and both his and Aziraphale’s character shines through so brilliantly in the way you wrote them, right down to diction and choice of word!
This was so wonderful Emma, and left me with the biggest smile on my face! Thank you so much for writing!
Love, Julia
