Hiya!

 

I quite enjoyed what you did here! To start, Luna's character is one that I'm actually pretty picky about reading. It takes a lot to capture her character in a way that isn't over exaggerated or pushed too far beyond the limits of what she is in canon, but I feel you did an excellent job here. You frame her character so well throughout this entire thing, bringing to light her questioning nature and her natural instinct to look closer at things that most people don't think twice about. She questions her fears, living in and around them in order to find that maybe, just maybe they're not so bad after all (or finds an explanation that makes the situation something less). She explores everywhere and isn't deterred by the usual things.

 

Another thing I love is how you use unicorns/ponies and thestrals to describe how different Luna is from other people her age. She looks past the leathery skin, and boney figures, to see something more. She doesn't see the death and sadness that everyone else sees, despite the fact that she's seen death in such a real and personal way that she should be afraid. She instead sees love, an everything her mother meant to her. It's such a refreshing view and it is such a Luna thing...I really love how you fit it all in here.

 

I also, as just an additional note, love the title and summary to this story. Like, when I first skimmed over it, I knew I was going to have to read it. It was lovely!

Thank you so much! Luna is definitely hard to get write, it's very hard to walk that line of eccentricity.
I think thestrals are such are perfect example of how Luna sees the world. She sees everything as so much better and more magical than it is, and she sees the best in everything and everyone, and treasures what is good in the world because she knows there's so much that isn't.
