Reviews For Saving Severus Snape

Okay, that was mean of you. A dream?!? Lol. Clearly, she has it bad. And she’s decided to ignore it. Wonderful. Holding in her temper is a good move. If she blows up every time someone teases, it’s not going to make the teasing stop. Amelia is sweet about it, and Severus is clearly becoming bolder. He has that calculated assuredness about him, as if putting himself out there is a risk he is going to have to defend. It’s a very Severus move.

Aww, the third years are adorable!

Ah, I cringed as soon as James said “Snively”! Those utter gits! I’m so heartbroken for Severus who is just trying to be normal. Ugh, what horrible boys! And THEN right when it seemed that things can at least pretend to be normal, they’re interrupted by Death Eaters! Argh!

Aw, but then there is still that tender moment at the end, and I don’t think Hermione can fight this for too much longer.

Or can she?

Oh gosh. The dreaded rumor mill of a teenaged landscape. I always hated that. The addition of Remus to the whole “be careful” conversation must have been so frustrating, but also, it shows that people in that time have grown attached to Hermione and only want the best for her. I’m happy that no one has flat out told her to stay away from him. Interesting that they haven’t gone that far, because it’s what I had expected. But that just shows that she was sent back in time at just the RIGHT time, that people haven’t formed such a low opinion of Severus Snape as a whole. He’s just another kid who keeps to himself and gets picked on by the school bullies. It’s not like the whole school is against him.

Oh my, and Severus is trying for a sense of humor, how delightful! Ah, haha! That was also cute with the little boy in the painting! You have a great way of letting the details speak for your story here and there, and it’s adorable.

Ah, the good old Truth or Dare to let everyone in on the secret! Hermione’s not wrong when she says there’s nothing going on. But it’s tough to be in the spotlight when you’re clearly not supposed to be in the spotlight and not ready to admit anything and I’d probably storm off too. And isn’t it just the perfect thing when the person you’re trying to stay away from appears right in front of you?

Great tension building!

Oh yes. The next stage is denial. Of course it is, lol! Hermione is clearly trying to talk herself out of feeling so smitten, but nothing seems to be working. She’s right. It is foolish and all those other things, but sometimes, there’s nothing to be done for it. Also, yeah, why shouldn’t she skive off classes that she’s already taken? Lol!

Oh how lovely! He’s taking her to his secret spot! It sounds lovely, and secluded, and the way he found the place was a heartbreaking example of why Hermione had to come back to fix things. But Hermione, you’re holding on to the ‘just friends’ thing too hard. Maybe not. But it feels like it’s too hard. I suppose she can only let go of one thread at a time.

I would be so freaked out if Lily Potter cornered me after that kind of morning. Fortunately, she’s polite, and I’m glad it wasn’t a super weird confrontation. Lily’s just looking out for her, and I’m happy that Hermione knows enough to recognize that.

Ok, I am here with Hermione, all nerves and worry, and why is Dumbledore being so comforting right now??? It’s false comfort, I tell you. Hermione must know this. Nothing about Dumbledore can be comforting after the war. And yet… he says he’s not going to force her to go until she thinks she’s succeeded in the mission. That’s good. I think. I hope. But I worry.

You know what? I am happy for Hermione here. She has probably fulfilled one of her dreams, to be accepted by Ravenclaw. I am glad that she’s made friends and that they are supporting her like fellow students and that she has people behind her. This makes me hopeful about her situation like nothing else can.

Severus is SO FOCUSED. Nothing gets in his way when he’s like that. I like how you bring out that trait in him and put it onto Hermione. It shows that he’s serious and brings out his single-mindedness that we remember that is so HIM.

Also, Amelia is a good friend. Ha! I loved that you turned the typical “go to the quidditch match with me” into “help me with potions” question! That was perfect!

Ah, but Amelia sees what Hermione isn’t admitting. It COULD just be friendship, but in this case, it’s probably more. Likely more. It’s also fun to see the Marauders from Hermione’s knowing perspective. It’s also a fresh take on keeping her out of their nonsense… well, as much out of their nonsense as she can be, given that she’s trying to forge a relationship with their enemy. I like the balance that you keep in this story between Hermione’s goals and showing us a glimpse of the other characters we all know and love.

Enjoying this!

Hello!

I love how Hermione is going over all the options and non-options for conversation topics with Severus before their library non-date. Even if it’s not really a date, it’s a time they’ve set aside to be in the same space with each other, which denotes a bit of intimacy. I’m sure it’s not something that Severus does often, if at all, and the fact that he instigated it really speaks to how much of an impression Hermione has made on him. Is it her smarts? Is it his guilt? Is it the way she keeps fighting with him about his unnecessary rudeness towards her when all she’s done was try to be civil to him? I’m really hoping there won’t be any Marauders interference, but it’s probably wishful thinking on my part.

Oh gosh, he just jumps right in there. I can understand why, with his history. He’s not going to befriend someone who Sirius has already made clear he’s interested in, especially if historically, girls just flock to Severus’ worst enemy if he blinks at them. This is one thing I bet keeps Severus up at night. “This girl wants to be friends with me, but my worst enemy wants to be friends with her, so what’s the point?”

Well played on the drama side of things!

Actually, Hermione is telling the truth about Sirius Black in his early days. She’s seen the evidence. It’s not that much of a stretch.

And yeah, it matters to Severus. He’s not going to admit to it, though.

And wait! Just as she’s making the least bit of progress, Dumbledore wants to talk to her about going back???

Hahaha! Operation Stalk Severus is a great code name for her mission!  But oh, I am not looking forward to the part where Hermione needs to deal with Severus’s cohorts. That could get just as, if not more ugly than James and Sirius. When you watch someone that closely, you do start to pick up on the little things. This is a good way to show that Severus is not all gruff and belligerent like he wants people to believe. And OH!!! Remus and the double conversation is so curious!!! She’s getting small hints of how her time here is affecting the future!!!

“I’ve noticed during Potions that you do not seem as stupid as the rest of our classmates.”

Bahahaha! Severus is FLIRTING with a GIRL!!! LOL! Bring on all the condescension. It’s such an alluring trait. I am totally sarcastic over here. But yeah, be careful, Hermione. He’s still Severus.

I love Amelia! She’s a good friend. It’s nice to see her with Remus too. Nice people deserve each other!  I am also glad that Hermione got to set the record straight about James and Sirius. They really are way out of line at times.

I love that Hermione still retains her reflexes from being on the run! It gives credence to all her past experiences, and I am enjoying the balance that you’ve given her character.

Ah, but it seems that Severus is not only confusing Hermione. He’s confusing himself too. That is a good thing. ???? I am loving how you are keeping Severus so very in character and making Hermione work hard for her mission here.

Ahh, Hermione got invited to the Slug Club!

I think I’d want to be alone for a while after that crazy time with all those people!

And man, oh man, these kids are CRAZY! Hermione’s finally, having a moment with Severus, and the INVISIBILITY CLOAK shows up!  Okay, it’s not the cloak’s fault. It’s the boys under it, but still. SHE DOESN'T GET A BREAK!

And then you make her BLEED!

But I see this. I see that there’s finally, finally some kind of connection forming here. You’re not making this easy at all, which is why it is so fantastic!

Remus and Amelia are the absolute sweetest! I love how Hermione gets these little normal moments in the in betweens. It’s like she’s finally settling in. Which is good, because Severus not fully glaring at her is all the progress she’s making right now. It’s going to be a long haul, wow.

I love the French! Rita deserved that!

And well, competence is an attractive trait. I think someone’s paying attention.

Ah! Severus is such a child here! But of course he is. The world is against him. Hermione is right to worry over her mission, because this guy is going to be a hard nut to crack. But exceeding expectations in Potions might at least be a good start!

Lockhart and Skeeter are ugh!

Amelia and Remus are sweet!

Remus is such a gem, here, too!

And the epiphany is awesome!

Name: Pixileanin (Signed) · Date: 10 Dec 2023 02:36 AM · For: v.

Ah, yeah. That’s a lot of thoughts running through Hermione’s head. But yeah, seeing her teachers twenty or so years younger would be quite weird!

But what’s really weird is how Severus is so blunt, and how he immediately goes for the ‘what are you plotting against me’ angle without much thought. I get it. And then of course, Sirius is right there, making everything so much worse. I love seeing Hermione get all bothered and angry and not giving Sirius what he wants.

And Lily!!!!

I am loving all these characters coming into Hermione’s life and how she has to just grin and bear the secret of what she’s trying to do! They’re all just being friendly, but every connection she makes with the people who aren’t on his side seems to be a barrier to getting closer to Severus himself.

What a quandary!

Name: Pixileanin (Signed) · Date: 10 Dec 2023 02:22 AM · For: iv.

Okay, I really love how you approach this. Severus is miserable, hateful, distrustful and disdainful, and he doesn’t give Hermione an ounce of mercy when she offers her kindness. And well he shouldn’t. She hasn’t earned his trust, and he acts like the wounded beast that his peers have made him into. I’d say she has her work cut out for her!

But luckily for Hermione, she’s tenacious and remembers her mission, and again, just goes for it. I love her cynical voice inside her head while she tries to navigate this first impression.

And now she has to deal with Sirius Black. Oh. Boy. I laughed a little at Hermione’s conscience telling her to take it easy on the rude boy. Like, yeah. Let the chap have his fun, but also, RITA SKEETER!!! AND GILDEROY LOCKHART!!! You just don’t let up on the poor girl! I’m surprised she gets any sleep after all this!

Okay, so it’s one thing to think to yourself that you’re going to change someone’s life, but then it’s a completely different thing to know how to begin. She’s got a good start, making a disguise of herself, and in true Hermione-style, she gets right to it. The pub is a great place for her to practice her story that she’s going to have to sell to the whole castle, and Rosmerta gives her an excellent opportunity.

Oh, gosh! That’s a quick start, having to face both Bellatrix and Lucius in the same moment! Hermione is NOT having the soft start she was hoping for. And having the whole torture episode be only WEEKS ago for her has got to be traumatic! Her thoughts about seeing the people who she saw die are so tragically sad! You really thought through all the things Hermione is pondering here in this moment, and it’s a fantastic portrayal!

And there’s the moment where she sees all the Marauders in all their messy glory! You painted it so well that I’m almost holding my breath.

And there’s the moment where she sees Severus!

Wow, you do this so well, with the coming back into consciousness and remembering exactly where and when she is, and why she’s there. I love the description of the calming draught, which I’d definitely need in her place! It’s good she took it, because now she has to digest a different name and be quick on the new plan. And boy, Dumbledore lays it all out, doesn’t he!

She has good instincts to go into a different House to keep her cover. And then, she just goes for it, just like she did in the last chapter! Go, Hermione, go! And the Ravenclaw Common Room! And the perfect book!

Meg!

I am so stoked that this is a completed story! And here’s where it all began! Hermione is so clever in this, but also so compassionate towards Snape after she learns the truth! She’s still questioning everything, as she should, and yet she just jumps into the adventure. I love how she just goes for it, and then when she realizes that she has truly jumped into the great unknown, she just falls apart!

Hi Meg!

YAY they made the antivenen work!!! I'm so proud of them! Though I'm not surprised. Severus and Hermione working together is an almost scary level of genius.

Severus clearly wanting to do something special for Hermione while trying very hard to act like he doesn't care if they do something special is adorable. He is a secret romantic and he can't help it. I hope they get to have their Valentine's Day date before she has to leave.

I'm living for him kissing the top of her head.

Speaking of leaving, I'm so sad that Hermione has to go back to her own time. I mean, it makes sense, but I just don't know how she's going to say goodbye or explain anything.

Dumbledore advising her to say goodbye "with love" had me all choked up.

Yours,

Noelle

Congrats on a beautifully crafted story.  I have to admit I still don't like Snape, but I admire your characterization; your Hermione certainly believes in him.  I also admit I might not have read it but for the recent Story of the Month nomination, so thanks to whoever did that - I enjoyed reading it very much.  Even grumpy old lions can admit that much.

Author's Response:

Aww thank you so much! I'm glad that you enjoyed it, even if Snape isn't your cup of tea. I can't help it, I love the miserable bastard lol. But I'm glad that you decided to give it a shot! And I really appreciate you taking them time to review, too! ????

I had to read this one more chapter after that cliffhanger... I knew it was Sirius! And I sort of knew what to expect, given your warnings on the chapter... to be honest, I'm glad nothing worse happened... I hate to think bad of Sirius... and what he did is... still horrible and inexcusable, but maybe a forced kiss from a very drunk teenager is forgivable, with time, especially since he seemed sincerely regretful when he apologized at the end? I don't mean to downplay the gravity of what he did, and how it made Hermione feel, but I just don't want to see him in a completely bad light...? I'm sorry... (I can't blame Hermione for asking him to stay away from now on, though!)

And I can't blame Severus for his reaction... although he might've gone a bit too far... thank goodness Hermione managed to separate them before things got too out of hand... and thank goodness Remus arrived at the right time... Typical Remus, btw, taking responsibility for whatever nonsense his friends got up to... He's still a sweetheart! <3

Oh... Severus was definitely on the point of saying he loves her! :O I wonder if she'll bring it up once things have calmed down again? I love that Madam Pomfrey was a bit more indulgent and let Hermione stay much longer than she normally would! And it was very sweet to see the way Hermione stayed by his side the whole time. The care they have for each other is so evident, it's really lovely to watch it! <3

I wonder what's going to happen now... I wonder if the incident will become public and how people will react to it... and of course I'm curious to see how you'll develop the relationship between Hermione and Severus further! <3

Great chapter once again!

Big snowball hug,

Chiara

Hi again! :D

But why did you have to close this on a cliffhanger?! I mean, I'm assuming this is James or Sirius (or both) under the Invisibility Cloak... but it also feels a bit diquieting... and if it is the Marauders, and Severus is about to arrive, it's probably not going to end too well in any case... why do you have to leave me in such a tense state??? :O

They talked!!! :D I'm almost surprised by Severus' self-awareness here... I never considered that he would feel that way about himself... of course, he would feel guilty about hurting Lily, but not really about being complacent of the way his housemates feel about muggleborns... it's much more mature than I expected of him... I guess seeing him admitting all this makes it understandable the way he escaped from Hermione before, and Hermione's reaction must feel so strange to him, too... of course, Hermione knows a lot that he doesn't, so it makes sense the way she's reacting, but it must be so strange to him... it's all very complicated, to be honest... anyway, it's good that she's brought him back! <3

I can't say that Dumbledore is wrong... but also, it's so annoying the way he talked to her... let my children be happy, okay? :P On the other hand, knowing that Hermione doesn't belong in this time and will have to leave eventually... it is a bit unfair of her... especially because Severus has no idea... but still, it wouldn't be fair if she didn't follow her heart, right?

Another great chapter! I'll try to be back soon! <3

Snowball hug,

Chiara

Hi, Meg! Back again for some more! <3

Wow, this was a harsh chapter... :/ I wonder if Amelia really has some suspicions about Hermione? I had forgot about the look change (of course... it's been way too long...) and I can see how that would seem weird... it's a big leap from that to "Hemione is a time-traveller", though... but who knows what Amelia is thinking? (I had forgot about Remus finding Hermione with the book on time-travel as well... btw, I'm missing Remus, is he going to appear again at some point? :P)

And where was Severus??? :O Should I be worried? We all know the path he's going to take, so his disappearence for the whole day makes me a bit tense... and why did he have that reaction when he surprised Hermione with Lily? If he'd been listening in, he must've also heard that Hermione had been defending him, so why running away like that??? What's going on inside his head now??? They were so happy just a chapter ago... :( but I suppose that's the whole point, when the characters are too happy, you know it's the time when something bad is going to happen, right? :P I hope they'll talk and fix it soon, though! <3

And, wow, Lily... what was that?! I mean, I get it... sort of... she still cares for Sev, despite everything, and she wants to protect him, but it is quite hypocritical, too... and why would she think that Hermione's going to hurt him, anyway? I'm a bit sad that Hermione and Lily aren't friends in this timeline, but I guess it makes sense... and they are adolescents, so you can't judge them too harshly anyway, but... Lily, honestly!

But it's not all bad, is it? It was nice to see Hermione with the Ravenclaw gang, and spending some time with Amelia, and having the other girl taking care of her for a little while! <3 And... Hermione just realized that she actually loves Sev! :O That's huge! Guess I'll read one more chapter, just to see if Hermione manages to reach out to Sev again ;)

Lovely work as usual! <3

Snowball hug,

Chiara

Hello, my dear! Back again for more! <3

Aww... they are so sweet together... <3 I love the closing of this chapter so much! It's just so emotional, and I love how they both make each other happy and are both grateful to have the other in their lives... and how Hermione is seeing the effect she's having on him, and understanding his need to be loved and feeling happy for his happiness... and the way she tries to communicate to him her care, because she knows how hard it is for him to believe it, and she knows that she won't be there forever to show him that... there's so much depth there! It's just so lovely! <3

Her nightmare in the beginning was so sad, but makes so much sense too... I'm not surprised that she would think of putting silencing charms around her bed, to not be heard if she woke for some nightmare... it's very smart, and I wouldn't have expected anything less from her ;)

Oh, the "are we official" talk!!! And of course, at this point there's no denying it, as risky as the admission might be... I loved Severus' joy at hearing Hermione admit that! <3 And wow, Severus kissing her like that in front of the students crowd... lol! Who would've guessed? :P Leave Sirius alone, Sev... you know Hermione doesn't care about the Marauders in that way... (I will admit, I do miss the Marauders a little bit... will we meet them again in later chapters? :P Sorry, I know they aren't the focus here, but you know that I have my obsessions, too... :P)

Another absolutely delightful chapter! I will be back, hopefully soon! <3

Big snowball hug,

Chiara

Hey, Meg! <3

I'm here for our swap, or just to come back to this awesome story, since I've been away from it for way too long... I'm so excited you are back to fanfic, and that you have a clear plan to conclude this! It's always very exciting, especially with a fic you've been working on for a very long time and that has a special place in your heart like this one... so I'm very proud and happy for you! <3

Oh, Christmas is coming! And I love that Hermione wants to find a present for Severus that will have a special meaning for him... and the ladle is such a perfect idea! :D Oh, and I so loved the memory that it brought back! I love all these flashbacks (or would it be more right calling them flashforwards? :P), how episodes from her past as a student of Severus suddenly take a whole new meaning... I have to wonder what Severus was feeling in that moment? I have to wonder how Severus felt through all the six years he taught Hermione, actually... he must've gone through so much bittersweetness the whole time, and having to pretend to be detatched must've been so hard for him... but he'd been hiding his feelings his whole adult life, so... wow, there is so much to untangle there! :O

Can't blame Hermione for being distracted, between the ladle revelation, and her doubts about the potion, and everything she's going through... yes, a pause was definitely needed! ;) The dueling session was fun, and... wow! They almost got there! :O But yeah, that would've been too soon, especially with all the complications... but maybe they'll get there eventually? We'll see...

It's so sad, thinking about how Severus' life played out... I love that they could have this moment to just talk and open up to each other (or at least, that Severus had the chance to open up with her, I'm not sure the other way around was exactly true). I wonder if they will get that chance to travel together once everything is said and done... again, we'll see! ;)

Oh, I almost forgot... one last note! I loved the little reference to house-elves! Or, well, love is probably not the right word here, because it's horrifying to think that wizards would use house-elves as test subjects, although it makes a lot of sense that they would... of course Hermione would refuse to do so, but how can she test her potion? That's a real obstacle, but I know she'll figure something out! ;)

Great chapter! I'll move on to the next now! <3

Big snowball hug,

Chiara

Meg!!! <3

Hello, my love! I've decided to profit of the HC finale to pay you a visit! :P

Ah, I've missed this story! It's always great to be back to it! <3

I forgot that Hermione was working at the antidote (I've been away for too long) but I loved the little scene in the forest and that she retrieved the unicorn horn! That was indeed a lucky occurrence, wasn't it? I really hope she'll be successful, even if she isn't quite there yet...

It was so sweet of Amelia, being supportive of her and Severus! She's right, if Hermione likes him so much, it must mean that he isn't that bad... and yay! She and Remus are officially a couple!!! That makes me so happy!!! (You know how much I ship Amelia/Remus! They are the most adorable couple! <3 <3 <3)

Poor, poor Hermione... I can't blame her for breaking down like that, poor dear... :( sometimes I forget that she hasn't really have a break since the war ended, which means that she hasn't have a break since they started the Horcrux hunt... and sometimes a small thing (like a blowing up potion) can just bring it all out... it's such a natural reaction and so, so relatable! Especially when this potion is so vital for her (but of course she can't tell Severus that... I wonder if she'll ever confess the truth and how he'll react... I'm a bit scared at the prospect, to be honest...)

I'm so glad that Severus was there to comfort her! The way he just held her for the longest time was so sweet! He truly cares for her a lot, doesn't he? I have to admit, it's difficult to match teenager Severus with the cold and sneering Professor Snape... but he has gone through a lot in his life, plus he had a role to recite, so it makes sense...

I can't believe Slughorn surprised them like that! :O I bet it was super embarrassing, but I love that they could see the hilarious side of the situation and just laughed it off! :P It was just lovely to see them just laughing so freely, especially after all the emotional turmoil a few minutes before! I hope Hermione has let go a bit of her anxiety, at least! <3

This was a lovely chapter as always! I'll try to be back soon! <3

Snowball hug, my love!

Chiara

Hi Meg! I’m here for EvS May 2020, team E :D

I think you did a great job mixing sexiness with humor and sweetness in this chapter. It’s their first time, and so neither one of them is up to anything fancy—but they love each other so much, and they’re so in tune with each other that I think it was everything either could have hoped.

Hi Meg! I’m here for EvS May 2020, team E :D

I love the memory when she sees the ring in the shop—and knows she’s seen it before on adult Severus’s finger. He DOES still love her!! But ugh, the frustration he must have felt in that moment when he started smashing glassware.

Oh boy—things are about to get hot!
