hello, i'm here for the house cup opener!
filch going on a speed dating thingie, organised specially for squibs is something i find deeply disturbing but from that one time that harry saw the squib self-help commercial in filch's desk, i'm not even surprised he would give it a go.
at one hand, i also feel sorry for him because it's so obvious how lonely he is. he has only mrs norris in his life, and, well she's a cat. but on the other hand, filch's personality is simply awful and i liked that you didn't shy away from that fact in this fic.
he's full on saying how he enjoys punishing students, how he views and judges other people in hog's head, especially his thoughts on women and why exactly he is interested in them - not for them, but for someone to take care of him and mrs norris. but then! somehow, you manage to then flip this whole thing around, and even though filch does/says/thinks all these things, i feel like it's mostly a self-defense mechanism, a way to keep himself apart from everyone and not let himself be hurt.
which is obvious when lily hugs him at the end of the story - he feels something then, and we see the human side of filch.
you mixed in humour really well in the story - the whole premise is funny, of course, but the funny remarks about his own appearance, and in general, made the story all the more better.
though i think the real strength lies in the fact that it's not exclusively funny, it's not a total parody or a crckfic and i like that because i always enjoy reading about people's takes on characters who are almost universally seen as being one way. and filch fits that perfectly.
