Reviews For Three Dresses

A perfect ending, really. I suspected it would be a wedding dress, but that didn't take away from the beauty of this chapter at all. I love that he references back to the days of her childhood, dressing up in princess gowns, when he can't find the words to express about this moment. And of course a good father is forever a knight in shining arm to his daughter, and I'm so glad she made sure he knew it. And then the surprise ending! I guess technically she could just be hinting at the fact that her and her soon to be spouse will be trying for a baby soon, but I took it as a pregnancy announcement! Ah, my heart. Sir Grandpa. A really beautiful read, the whole thing. It made me miss my own dad so much, who passed away when I was 19, and I'll never get this moment with him, and each chapter made me tear up some both with the memories and the things that won't happen, but that's what good writing does. Really beautiful job.

Oh my goodness, I love this one even more! The opening with this second dress and how different the vibe of it all is from the first one as it just hurls you into the future, where the young girl playing make-believe is all grown up just hit so hard. You can feel how the father is both so proud and so protective of her still, fighting that struggle of letting her go but wanting her safe. And the fact that she actually needs him in this case and of course he's right there for her! It's really beautiful, the relationship they have, and I LOVE how it tied back to the first chapter. I was thinking to myself before you wrote it that he was just out here slaying a different type of dragon all these years later. Love.

This is so adorable. The girl in this chapter is so relatable, I was exactly the same as a child - obsessed with Cinderella and would only where dresses that twirled! I love how realistic this reads, a young girl and her daddy playing make-believe, and he's the hero, like so many fathers are to their daighters. The writing itself is just really beautiful as well, the way you convery the innocence of this moment and the small details that fill it out. It's just lovely, start to finish!

I love how you carry the theme of Knight in Shining Armor through all these short chapters, even though the titles of the chapters focus on dresses, not valiant knights.  I can see that someone who was such a good daddy will also be an equally good grandpa.  It's his chance to re-live the play-acting with a new generation, even if perhaps he isn't quite as spry as he used to be.  He's obviously always going to be young at heart.  She is lucky to have a faher as devoted to her as he is, even though now there is a new man who must be the number one mn in her life.

This time it's a "real" dragon, not just a pretend dragon, and the confrontation is not exciting and fun, but shocking and distressing and even frightening.  But Daddy doen't say, "I told you so," or "You shouldn't have worn such a revealing dress," or, worse, "I'm going to go over to his house and give his parents a piece of my mind."  He just lets her talk, which is what she really needs, and reassures her that, no matter what, he'll always be there for her.

She has a great imagination.  Dressed in her dress-up clothes, fake diamond tiaras, and soft shoes, she becomes a princess for real, for a few minutes, and her house is her castle.  Such excitement with the knight (Prince?) in shining armor which she can see even if others cannot,  and the couch is so big and the chair is comparativly small, but the knight always wins.  For right now, this year, she is safe from every bad person or animal.   Aand tomorrow it will be aqn different aversay, bur Sir Daddy will alays be there.

Such a sweet ending to this series Barbara! One thing I noticed about these chapters is that the beginning always starts with the dress description and how it relates to the moment, but the relationship between father and daughter is what takes center stage in these little drabbles. Which I think flows very nicely and always sets up where we are in the timeline of things.

For this one specifically, I liked how the dialogue was written. In my head, I read it in hushed tones, perhaps because of the location and the moment right before you enter a church, but I thought that added to the overall sweetness of the mood.

Wonderful job with this little series!

Back again to leave a review for the review event!

I like how this chapter also includes a blend of fantasy metaphors along with reality like the first chapter did. It definitely feels apt and I feel like the fantasy metaphor becomes more vivid as time goes on and the daughter grows up.

Your use of details to convey emotions in such a short span of words works really well too! From the way her mascara runs down her face to the way she just flings herself into the car. When working with such few words you have to choose what to include and what to axe and I think you did an excellent job with that!

Well done!

Hi Barbara, this installment brought a smile to my face. You bring the images of a young girl dressing up in these over the top, costume like gowns, to life in such a joyous way. There's an insistence too about her not wearing anything else, and I feel that is rather telling of her age as well.

This girl wants to have her say in all things while enjoying these make believe worlds that inspire her and give her cause to dream about being a princess. There's something lovely about that notion. Her whole life is ahead of her, but for now she can enjoy the present without any worry about what the future might hold.

And having her father as her protector in this one makes me wonder how/if he will feature in any of the other drabbles you have here.
