Reviews For I Told You So

Hi, Heather.

A story mixing the Marauders and Dr. Who. Who would have thought of it?  You of course, and maybe anyone else who was a big fan of Dr. Who.

It's neat that, after alll these years, Sirius still remembers what Lily said when her prophcy about Margaret Thatcher came true.  When she said it, she was reminding Sirius that she had predicted, 3 years previously, Margaret Thatcher's rise to political power.  And immediately after that prediction in 1976, Sirius had made one of his own, that the actress on Dr. Who would also rise in power and get her own TV show.  Just a throw-away line, you might think.  Just his way of saying that the Dr. Who show was as important as the new Prime Minister.

But all through the years, years after Lily's death, he is still cherishing that memory of her, and yet that's very sweet, so when he finally learns that his prediction came true too, he is ready to relive the moment.

Interesting that you have Arthur say the same line to Remus. "See, I told you so," apparently meaning "See, I told you we could lure Sirius out of the attic by showing him Dr. Who on the TV."  Arthur does not know that those were the exact same words Lily had used with Sirius so many years ago, words he never expected to hear again.

This is a subtle story.  I read it through 2 or 3 times to get all the nuances and pick up the tie-ins.  And yes, it certainly is a sweet story.  Good job!

Author's Response:

If I remember correctly, this story was in response to a writing challenge years ago. Sirius and Lily and "I told you so". I needed a couple of time relevant events that could be carried over through the years. Sirius wouldn't have been nearly as interested in a Muggle Prime Minister as he would be in Dr. Who lol. It's funny, I hadn't really thought of either as predictions, just their own preferences. This story does actually break my heart. It shows just how much he and Lily had a friendship he cherished, maybe not as much as James, but in a different, kid sister kind of way. I'm so glad you liked the story enough to make sure you caught the nuances, I really appreciate that. Considering you didn't get into Dr. Who, I understand why you might have to. I'm sorry if they were confusing at all.

Thanks so much for trying this one,

Heather

Hi again! Just Meg here for our swap (again :P ). This story was really sweet and funny. It reminded me of my love for Doctor Who (granted I only got into it with the 9th and 10th Doctors but still). I'm glad you included that bit in your story. It made me smile and I'll admit I even laughed a little. You write so well! I hope to see more stories like this pop up.

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I only really got into Dr. Who with those Dr.s as well, I had to do some research. I like that Sirius was fond of K9 since he turns into a dog lol :P

I have Christmas chapters coming up in my WIPs and might have an idea on another one-shot Christmas episode but probably won't get to that until after the holidays. Thanks so much for the swap!

Hi there!!

I wanted to leave a review for your upcoming family addition :)

This story is so sweet and heartbreaking all at the same time. I love these sorts of stories where we look at moments in time, knowing what has happened between characters and seeing all the little things that make them special. This connection between Lily and Sirius is so great -- it doesn't have anything to do with James or the war, it's just this little thing that they got to share. I love how they both can tell the other that they were right, even though Sirius never gets to tell Lily to her face :( and I just love how Remus knows about this little connection they had and how important it was to Sirius at one point in his life.

This is such a special little one-shot! Great job

Author's Response:

Thanks so much! That's kinda my M.O, missing moments. My short story With Sirius Black is kinda based around that concept. This particular one-shot was based on a Challenge prompt a million years ago lol. I absolutely love how it turned out and I actually placed!

I also love how it was Peter who introduced Dr. Who to him, it gives a little more dimension to their friendship which I feel gets very overlooked. There has to be a reason why they got along with Peter and why it was a betrayal to Everyone, not just Lily and James.

Thank you so much for the review!

Lol, our daughter is a special little One-shot too! :)

Here for the mountain murder mystery event!

Ahh I love it when Marauders fics incorporate actual pop culture things from that time period, it makes it feel so alive, and I love the idea of Sirius being obsessed with all things Muggle, in addition to just motorbikes and bikini posters. Doctor Who makes so much sense. And then there's Lily salivating over the first female PM of course.

The final scene was a bittersweet little moment where Sirius is able to be taken back in time momentarily to those simpler, happier days, the pure joy of diving into something he loved again, seeing that Sarah Jane did in fact get her show! <3

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you enjoyed this, it was a really bittersweet story to write but it really did pop for me too. Sirius and Arthur would have probably bonded over that motercycle too. Since Doctor Who was such a staple in British culture at the time I thought it made perfect sense. Also, I was happy to have Peter introduce it too Sirius. I always struggle with how Peter fit into the group and it helped to give them a common show to be interested in. I just remember in HP 5 how somber Christmas was for Sirius and I wanted Remus to come and try to snap him out of it.

Anyway, I could ramble on, but I truly appreciate the review!

Hi Heather! Here for our swap! :D (Sorry for the wait, it's been a very busy time... also, I promise I'll be back for more WMM, too, but right now I'm just enjoying this little lift-me-up fic... more Marauders Christmassy one-shots, please? :P <3)

I love the way you built this! It's absolutely sweet! I'm not very familiar with Doctor Who, but Sirius getting so invested in a Muggle TV show is such a Sirius thing, and I love it! All of this is just so quintessentially Sirius, it's just awesome! :D And I love the temporal progression, how these three very separate moments in time are still linked through that original random conversation between Sirius and Lily... and the "I told you so" line... the last one from Sirius especially is so touching! So bittersweet in the best way! <3

There are so many little details that I loved in this. Sirius taking Muggle Studies just to piss his parents off, the way he follows Lily around (and the whole trying to see if I can break our record time of conversation thing :P) and she finds him both annoying and entertaining, Lily being focused on politics and more serious (no pun intended :P) things and Sirius barely listening to her... that "I have no idea what she's on about." at the end of the second scene made me laugh! I wonder if he was just being dismissive or if he genuinely didn't remember... it could easily be both... :P (and if it's the second, it's even funnier because in the third scene you make it clear that he did remember his own claim! Lol! :P)

Remus trying to lift Sirius' spirit and forcing him to participate in the festivities using the TV show was so lovely! I love that it was Arthur's idea, too! And, ouch, I turned it back off, ‘cause, obviously, I was pissed at you then. It always makes me a bit sad to be reminded of what everyone thought of Sirius... but also, I liked this from a characterization pov because it's 100% what Remus would do! In any case, I thought that last scene was very touching as a whole! Loved to see Remus looking out for Sirius like that! <3

This was a really lovely read, as I hope you could tell from my very messy review! :D

Thank you for writing and sharing, and thank you for the swap! <3

Happy holidays and snowball hug,

Chiara

Author's Response:

Yes! I have to say I'm loving Marauders at Christmas, which sounds like the name of a collection right?? Did you catch that Peter introduced him to Doctor Who also? I thought it was a nice way to introduce something he and Peter had something in common with. It's usually all about Sirius and James or Remus. Peter must've been fun on some level for them to keep him around as long as they did. I also had to bring in Arthur's love of Muggles in on this story and what would have made Sirius join back in. I have to tell you, the prompt I had to include was the phrase "I told you so" and also, of course, the decades theme, and it seemed such a Lily and Sirius thing to say.

Thanks so much for the review!! Glad you loved it!

Happy holidays to you too,

Heather

Maybe it's not a proper review, but there's nothing more for me to say except I love it.
