Author's Response:Funny story, this was supposed to be a slower burn than it wound up being, but Sev and Ted jumped the gun on me. You'll see when you get there :D
But it isn't a super fast burn, because Sev is Sev and he thinks that nobody would ever be attracted to him (and he's also not the best at social cues when they are directed at him at least). And Ted is over there almost vibrating, but not wanting to scare Severus off by being too fast. So we have to wait a little bit.

Excuse me. How dare you take a tragic and sorrowful backdrop and still make these two swoon-worthy and warm and fuzzy?! Amazing. You know how much I love angst fluff and this story is feeding it to me in heaping spoonfuls. I.Love.Them.
Ted is a-freakingdorable and Sev's insecurities are everything. They both feel so real and so honest and I want them both to feel better <3 <3 <3
Author's Response:I'm so glad that the angst-and-fluff thing is working! Wherever Severus is there's going to be some angst, even if the story is meant to be fluffy. The angst clings to him like a shadow.
Ted is too pure for this world. Like he's purer than Miranda by a lot. And I feel that whatever universe Sev is in, he's really hard on himself--like harder than he is on everyone else.

I'm so excited to dive into this story! I love reading your Snape, he's always such a complex character and you bring all those layers to him. This story starts out on such a strong foot - like the world building and voice and tone is so present and consistent and wonderful.These two feel like they're gonna be oil and water and I love the chemistry potential in that! Already I can see some sparks a'brewing <3 <3 <3 Can't wait to keep reading!

I'm so thrilled that you like the way I write Severus! It was really fun to take him and give him a different, but still Severus-esque voice for this AU.

Ahh eep! Omgawsh I love these bois so much! Alright, so I absolutely love Sev's internal fretting at the start of this. He's trying. so. hard. To give off this appearance of being casual. Everything from his dress to what he's brought with him. But like, homemade shortbread is no joke. It's hard af to make, so anyone who recognizes that labour of love involved with Sev's Mom making it and Sev in turn sharing some of that buttery gold, can see that this is heading into date like territory. And I love that Ted picks up on it. And regardless of how Ted reacts to this gesture, we feel a moment of calm wash over Sev because he's prepared either way. And preparedness helps us with anxiety at times. Anyway, that whole opening had me chuckling and then when they're together I was all AWWW.
I also love how this story so descriptive in all the right ways. Like I can picture everything perfectly in my head without the details weighing it all down because you've chosen the best ways to describe things and set the scene appropriately. :)
Also LOVING the LEAVES and the MARIANNE reference. Amazing touch right there! *chef's kiss* for seamless reference inclusion.
Anyway, this piece was the stuff I needed today to make me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. I like that they're touching. And we're progressing. :hearts in eyes: about that.

Author's Response:Writing Sev trying to be casual is my favorite thing. I think that he is pretty good at putting on a front of being unruffled, but inside his brain is zipping all over the place.

I need to catch up on this story. This was a fun and funny chapter -- just about every line deservd to be commented on as "this was one of your really good lines in this chapter." Your Severus in this story is the perfect guy for a lot of dry humor. I'm glad he finally was able to have a good time. :)
An interesting bit of his personality -- he really is freaked out about being in the graveyard in general, and specifically possibly being there after the sun goes down. So he manages his unease with a series of one-liners that really give this little chapter its pizzazz.
Not really sure what Lily was looking for, or why she thought she would just know it when she saw it, without any grave marker. Now I'm curious. Perhaps we will find out in a later episode...
Than you for continuing this story. It has been both fun and original. This version of Severus is really quite the guy.

Author's Response:Yes, Sev is definitely freaked out by graveyards.
They were looking for the unmarked grave of a serial killer who is rumored to have been buried in that cemetery. I'm not sure if they ever found it though.

Ahh I loved this installment! I love how you captured the beat and cadence of running through their dialogue. I thought that was really well done. And definitely not an easy feat to write out! :)
Lily and Sev's friendship in this is great. And it's not weirdly piney. I've been in love with my best friend for a long ass time, and you have these occasional moments of "argh if only..." but life goes on and people make other choices and you have to make a decision for yourself if the occasional flare up of pain is worth a longstanding friendship. So I thought you captured an unspoken dynamic that is heartfelt and realistic and not creepy or instrusive, which sometimes the Lily/Sev dynamic can feel when other people write it. But not in this house and I love to see it.
I also love an interrupting Ted against the backdrop of a sunset! <3 And plant help. Dinner. Yes. It's a date. Let's go boys! I'm here for this!
And the "you're blushing," and "it's just a trick of light," was also a great way to sort of play with the sunset prompt further. Nice, little detail there!
Anyway, I do hope you don't mind me randomly dropping in for a review here and there! I'm really enjoying this series :)

Author's Response:Thank you so much! I'm glad that Sev's feelings for Lily aren't creepy. He does love her deeply, but I think that since he is an adult when they meet, and since he does have his own life and more agency than he does in canon, it's not quite as desperate of a liking as it is in canon. LIke in canon Lily seems like the only good thing that's ever happened to Sev, so he clings to her in a way that gets very unhealthy.
Though, tbf, things will get a little dicer with Lily and Sev. Just not in this particular story since it's supposed to be fluffy.

If it weren't like Severus wasn't used to being hated. It'd just never been Ma doing the hate before. Like what a powerful statment and so showing of just how desperately he needs her love and approval.
But of course Ma comes around and tells him she'll always be proud of him. I absolutely love how she very quickly's like, "okay, so bring him around, let's do this properly" and the "It looked pretty serious to me" had me dying with laughter. I feel like Severus gets his good humor from his mom. Obviously, she's different generation and she has a maturity he hasn't reached, but they're both kind of drycut when they want to be in the most hilarious kind of way.
Anyways, wonderful chapter, and I can't wait for more of Severus and Ted. <3

Author's Response:I'm really glad to hear that Ma managed to turn things around in this chapter. She messed up badly in the last chapter, however she was caught completely off-guard. So nobody in the last chapter was at their best (except for Ted, who's an angel).
I LOVE that you've picked up on those similarities between Sev and Ma. Severus spends so much time dwelling on the ways he is like his father, but in reality he is much more like his mother. Yes, he does have some of Tobias's traits, but he is much more like Ma in the way he talks, in his sense of humor, in his temprement, and the way he sees the world.

I really like how, once again, you've chosen a unique direction for this prompt! I love the coziness that the conversation between Ted & Sev evokes. I could honestly read them chatting about ordinary, day-to-day things for hours. Theway they connect already is this truly lovely feeling. And then BOOM! Interrupting kiss, indeed. And with Sirius' appearance I really felt the tension rise several notches. The way you maneuvered through Sev's varied emotions was so graceful. I am so happy to be returning to this fluffy piece and I am so glad you wrote this!

I love that your version of lazy Sunday is more or less Severus meandering about, searching for something to do. But he's sort of internalizing the laziness and aiming for productivity. I have felt this before myself, so I really just loved that you took this "not so obvious" approach to the concept.
Of course I love the interaction in the greenhouse as well. Ted stroking Sev's forearm like...I felt that down in my lady bits hah. But I loved that we see just how different they are on the plant score here. It's funny (and extremely clever) how their professions sort of contradict what you would think would be how well, or not so well, they can manage plants. I really loved that contrast.
Anyway, I can't wait to read more of this and see how their relationship progresses!

Ma was busy banging around pots and pans, trying to forget the image of her only son naked in bed with another dude. Allllll my immaturity is showing here because I snorted another embarassed laugh here. "I know what bisexual means. I don't live under a rock." This feels like Ma, even though I barely know her.
Oh no! Ma's reaction broke my heart but I really think she'll come around. I just can't see her not accepting Severus.

Back to this chapter, they really ARE good at improvising! lmbo! That whole bit at the beginning was hilarious, by the way. But Severus hasn't date anyone in a while, has he? So it's reasonable that he didn't have a condom on the standby.
And of course Nurse Care Bear is a cuddler! My heart <3 I adore this two. The ending was such a perfect well-deserved moment. I loved it!

omg I was so getting ready to just yammer on about how I was just LAUGHING at this farcical scene but then oh no, Ma had to bring up going to Hell and that really puts a damper on the mood, even more than her walking in on them. (Fantastic use of Panic at the Disco lyrics, btw.)

omg what a DELIGHTFUL scene. And the balance of all the feels here. The friend feels, the pining, the angst, the humor. That last line lmao, which just balances it all out but doesn't diminish any of the rest.
The way you write Lily, and their dynamic, I can absolutely see these personalities and this dynamic leading to that critical moment when Sev is going to open his big mouth and make his big mistake and ruin it.
It's also so bittersweet because I just... love them together??? Like you could just see it working. I don't care what anyone says, part of me will always love the idea of what he and Lily could have had in a different version of reality.

Yeah, I feel like by the time Severus says that awful thing, he's been holding back so long, and he's been beat up by life so much, and he's so bitter, that he just lashes out and that's it.

omg the metaphor of Ted picking up strays. And yes I can easily see how this dynamic could go south epecially with Sev already telling himself it's doomed. It makes so much sense for him to see it as being in someone's debt who does caring things for him. :(
Author's Response:One of Severus's key flaws is his negativity, and how that turns into a self-fulfilling prophesy. I would guess that years from this moment, when Ted leaves Severus, Severus absolutely remembers this moment and is like: See---I knew it. It's very sad :(
Ok so I really love how you're doing all these drabbles/oneshots/prompts really close together like telling this story across multiple chapters, it's so cool how you've been able to apply the prompts like to scenes in a short story rather than doing these as all totally separate stories, if that makes sense. I'm so into the flow of this Sned awakening.
