Hi, Jacque! Here for the review event, and for some more Regulus/Mina goodness! <3
I love this collection, and the delicate balance between fluff and angst in it! And this scene is the perfect example of that... I love all the contrasts in it. The luxury of the party versus the darkness of the war, the guests' ambitions and Mina's indifference, her slightly slef-destructive game and Regulus coming to "ruin" it... and I love how among so many who just watching her figure, he's the only one who actually sees her, and how she can sort of see through his armour of apathy, too. And I love their bantering... "Don't you have a dark corner to brood in?" / "Oh that I could. Sadly I was instructed to mingle." I don't know why, but I just love that teasing exchange! And the way she goes and downs the rest of her wine, and Regulus doesn't know what the gesture means, but we know because we were in her head before... :P Such a subtle way to link this to the prompt, lol! But I love it! <3
Wonderful job as always! <3
Snowball hug,
Chiara
One more, since these are so short! :D
Ah, I love this moment of playfulness! Love to see them loosen up and being silly and childish, only for a moment! And that kiss at the end! <3 This was absolutely delightful and made me smile so much! <3
I love the way Mina watches him, love how she can see past his facade of apathy and her observations that he's much more perceptive than he shows. And I love how he's so concerned for her, the anger he feels at seeing her hurt. And I love the location, by the Peter Pan statue. As you know, I've loved the Peter Pan metaphore throughout "A madness most discreet", and I love that it is still a theme, sort of, in this collection! I just really, really love the way you've built this scene! <3
I should probably say much, much more, but just... know that I absolutely adored this chapter!
Huge snowball hug and hope you'll have a wonderful holiday season! <3
Chiara
Hi, Jacque! Here for your wishlist, and some more Regulus/Mina (angsty) fluff! :P
And to be fair this chapter is more angst than fluff, but it's still a very soft moment between these two... I love how stubborn Regulus is in trying to make her feel better, even if she's so full of self-disgust and doesn't want his care right now... I love the way he just sits down next to her, the delicacy of his touch, the closeness, the way he just offers to listen... it's so beautiful and lovely! And the knuckle kiss is so soft and full of care... so precious!!! <3 <3 <3
And it's so heartwrenching, because these kids are so broken, and we know what will eventually be of them, and it's horrible the darkness that they are surrounded with, that they are contributing to build... I know I shouldn't focus on that, but I can't help it... I just want them to be happy and safe... it's so unfair...
Your writing is just as beautiful as always, and the emotions you describe come through so strongly and deep! Wonderful job as always! <3
Big snowball hug,
Chiara
A last one for the reaper (but I'll hopefully be back soon! <3)
Loved this! I love that they can also have these fun moments! Love the motorcycle, and how Regulus is all "stupid Muggle contraption", but secretly excited about the experience! :D And I love how you played with the sunset prompt, the way Regulus gets distracted by it and the comparison between the sky colour and his eyes! And that "Into the horizon then?" closing, that feeling of adventure! Love it so much! :D
Wonderful job with these! <3
Snowball hug,
Chiara
Another super soft moment! I love that she finds it in herself to relax in his embrace, that she can't really find that safety and levity anywhere else... and there is still that sense that she's drawing too close and she shouldn't, but also we know, and she knows, that he would never want to use that power to hurt her. Isn't that precious? <3
But when Regulus holds me close I don't have to worry about my scattered pieces blowing away in unpredictable winds.
My breath falls into tandem with his heartbeat, a soothing, peaceful melody [...]
How are your words always so stunning? :O
Loving the collection so far! <3
Okay, this one is darker again, and yet there is still this softness in the way Regulus watches her... and, wow! So much depth in such few words! I love how you play with the theme of the starry sky, and the closing line is just beautiful! And I love this idea that she allowed him to break her defenses, just because he was so broken himself... it's just so sweet, even if you can't help but feel bad for them, having to live through that darkness in the first place! Another absolutely stunning drabble! <3
Wow! I love the intimacy and fluffiness of this chapter! More than just our bodies against one another, his soul somehow whispers against my ear when he tickles at my neck. This line! So full of depth and beauty! <3
And I love that this felt so lighthearted, almost childlike with the tickling bit, but also so sensual at the same time! That ending took my breath away! And all your descriptions are so lovely as usual! <3
Another great one, my dear! <3
Hi, Jacquelin! Here to woo the reaper (and to give back a little after all the effort you put in reviewing all your challenge entries... <3)
Loved this first drabble! Your writing is always deliciously descriptive and evocative! The atmosphere is just perfect, dark-ish and sort of dangerous, with this sense of secrecy and forbidden-ness... so perfect for your characters and for the prompt! And the library setting, and the spying each other through shelf holes... just perfect!!! Especially for Mina and Reg!
Wonderful opening! See you on the next one in a minute!
Snowball hug,
Chiara
Hi Jacquelin! I’m here to woo a Dementor :D
The motorcycle lesson is so adorable. It’s the right balance of snark (I wonder if Regulus is being snarky because he’s maybe a little nervous about riding this thing) and flirtation. The moment where Mina realizes that Regulus isn’t really paying attention to the lesson and is really focusing on her is perfect.
I loved how you highlighted the color of the sky at sunset that brings out Regulus’s eyes—it was cool to focus on the blues instead of the red/orange.
Yes Regulus and Mina—ride into the horizon and fly away from the Dark Lord!
Yours,
Noelle
Hi Jacquelin! I’m here to woo a Dementor :D
See Mina??? See, sometimes it does work out (at least for now)!! Sometimes when we let the right person see our vulnerabilities, they will come and support us, instead of crushing us.
I love how you have illustrated that pleasure/pain of being known and seen in this chapter.
Yours,
Noelle
Hi Jacquelin! I’m here to woo a Dementor :D
OMG THIS CHAPTER IS AMAZING!! YOU WERE ABSOLUTELY ON FIRE WITH THE IMAGERY YOU USED!!
Seriously, I was going to copy/paste some lines to gush over in this review, but then I would be copy/pasting the entire chapter!
I loved the feel of the night, and how you made it both familiar to Mina, but also threatening because of the position she’s in.
I ADORED the entire paragraph starting from “The night’s chill.”
And the thing at the end about how she’s watching Regulus like she watches the constellations and which stars are dead vs still burning—SWOON!
Yours,
Noelle
Hi Jacquelin! I’m here to woo a Dementor :D
This chapter has a lovely progression. First we’re all cozy, with Mina and Regulus wrapped up in each others’ arms, and also barefoot and getting some good earth time with their bare feet on the dirt, even if Regulus doesn’t quite understand why. And then it’s playful and cute with a tickle fight (I loved how you put it where Regulus’s fingers tip-toed over Mina to tickle her), and finally a little bit of spice at the end when the cute tickle fight turns into something sexier. A lovely chapter!
Yours,
Noelle
Hi Jacquelin! I’m here to woo a Dementor :D
So I love some library flirting, and I love how you’ve set up this first chapter. Mina is in the middle of a very dangerous moment, her position and her safety is pretty precarious, so it’s a lovely respite to have a moment here with Regulus where they are playing a game, even if they haven’t quite decided what game it will be yet.
I loved the ending part about Regulus’s fog of apathy, and how relaxing and comforting Mina seems to find it.
Yours,
Noelle
I was so fascinated with the direction you took this one, the tense and delicate moment and this sort of breathtaking dialogue here where Regulus invites her to unburden herself. <3
Super sexy predator-prey kind of feels going on here, with the really lovely contrast of the trust and intimacy of the foreheads touching! <3
The idea that you can rest with someone holding you because you don't have to physically keep yourself together!! <333
OooohhhHHhhh "unable to tell the dead stars from the ones still burning." That is such a ksfjhasdh ~~LOADED statement I don't even know where to begin, but I love it.
Also the contradiction in the fact that stars have historically been used as directional guides, but at the same time they're so vast they can make you feel totally lost. Depends on how well you can read them! <3
Hi Jac, I'm here to do some flash reviewing to try to catch up on a bunch of things! So much good fluff on the archives now thanks to you!! <3
The thing I really picked up here was how Regulus is wiggling his toes "not certain what to do with the freedom." Being barefoot really is its own sort of freedom, literally in a way as well as being sort of figurative for everything else. They're in this literal and figurative unstructured moment. <3
Melanie
JACQUE AHHHHHH THEY'RE SO CUTE BUT SECRET AND I HAVE ~*issues*~ WITH SECRETS BUT AHHHHHH
and the line about not being able to tell the dead stars from the ones still burning??????? ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE ME CRY WHTA BEAUTIFUL FORESHADOWING BUT ALSO AHHHHHHHHHH
anyways, i love them, idk if i love you tho for making me feel so many things but i guess i shouldnt be surprised... <3
jacque how are you able to make them so fucking cute so easily but also lowkey rip my heart out knowing what happens afterwards??
but also this is just so sweet, they're just young kids in love rn and i love them, and i wish they could've stayed in this moment forever, why cant you give me an au where that's a thing? thank youuuuu
Nano tag!
Ahhh peeking through the spaces in bookshelves!! *little hearts in my eyes* How well you described this kind of scene and the playfulness of it -- because no matter whether it's light or brooding, there's always something a little mysterious and cheeky about it at the same time.
And then Regulus's playful demeanor here is such a wild contrast to the very end where Mina pries into his mind and finds just nothingness really -- not vapid, but apathetic. I love the duality of Regulus there, but even more I love the fact that Mina is so drawn to the apathy -- that it's comforting to her.
<3 Melanie
Jacque!!! You know i had to come visit your fluff, because i also love fluff, and i love Regulus and Mina so you BETTER NOT HURT ME okay time to start :)
Okay a LIBRARY SCENE??? Ooh im intrigued… and ahhhh it’s the cute little looking through a bookcase thing!!! And then they catch each other’s eye through the bookcase ahhhhhhh!!!!!
Ugh this is super cute what babes!! I love this little game even though i know there’s this overwhelming thing with Voldemort that hangs over them but like they’re honestly just kids, and it’s a little sad that they’re caught up in all this
Okay so this turned from fluff to steamy REAL QUICK - REGULUS PUT YOUR SHIRT ON (said in the same way as ‘jacob put your shirt on’ i hope you got that reference)
I almost wish they didn’t kiss, and it was just them playing around in the library, because it’s just so sweet, but i also love this as is, i can’t tell what i want more, but this is lovely and aghhhhh babiesssss
You better keep them happy jacque i s2g!!! Happy nano and happy writing <3 <3 <3
lo <3
