This one was hilarious. Obviously Percy and Cecily are a lot alike, probably too much alike this story would suggest. I like how at the beginning, Percy sees her as the perfect woman because she’s as organizational neurotic as him (except for the unfortunate muggle component, but she can’t help that any more than he can his name) but then the more he thinks about it, he that maybe this shouldn’t be what he bases a relationship on. (By the way, the cups go down and the bowls go up, so Cecily wins in my book; however, I have no idea how I do my toilet bowl paper.)
I think the HP books really did Percy a disservice. I’m so glad you have grasped onto this character because you give him such depth and we develop a sense of empathy for him as he tries to navigate through the teenage trails. This is, naturally, a big one. I love his hesitancy and how he’s self-evaluating like it was a class at Hogwarts. Then he’s so timid afterward, so afraid to get that “test” back and flip over to see the grade. They are an adorable couple trying to figure out exactly what this relationship is.
Ah, the first attempts at love or like or whatever you want to call it. (I doubt Percy knows either.) You did a nice job taking the uncertainty for a first relationship and still meshing it with Percy’s personality. I don’t blame him for not want to tell his brothers. The scene in the library was very cute. Her left handedness and his right was the perfect “excuse.” I can just see Percy’s face when their legs are intertwined. I bed he looked like he was clubbed over the head. I hope Fred and George don’t come by right now, but it probably won’t be an issue. The library will, no doubt, be a safe spot for this new couple.
That corridor sounds like a menace. No wonder it’s Peeves favorite spot and the set up was perfect. I almost wonder if Peeves set it up (mistletoe in all) and then wandered away to see what would happen. Nah, I’m probably giving him too much credit. I’m betting it was Hogwarts that put it together.
My favorite part is the last line, because it’s so Percy. He’s willing to indulge in a bit of frivolity because it’s the “rule” of the mistletoe. I also love how he’s trying to keep his dignity while looking like a drown rat-so much for a knight in shining armor rescuing the lost damsel. Oh well, Penny doesn’t seem to mind.
Okay, well, this is adorable. I absolutely love the sentence about the difference between being a beginner and a master at something, and how Percy would only want to be seen by the public with something he feels certain he's good at already. That feels so indicative of who he is as a person, he carries a lot of self-made expectations on his shoulders, and he's right that the the twins would knock him down as soon as they had an opening for it!
His longing to have what the other couples have in public, however, is really sweet, actually, and really quite silly of him not to just enjoy, because everyone was someone's boyfriend/girlfriend for the first time, you idiot! But the moment you gave him with Penny in the library was just precious. Who doesn't love a secret romance? It made my heart very happy.
I don't read much about Percy, to be honest, but I know you're a huge fan, so I was excited to see what you'd do with him, and I found this an absolute joy of a chapter!
Firstly, I love the way you've imagined this part of Hogwarts, with the trickster doors and Peeves using it's already confusing nature to its full advantage. I could literally picture so clearly in my head that reference to Muggle tv shows, with the near misses as people enter and exit a door just as they miss the next person! LOL
Secondly, you made Percy a bit of a rounder character here than we tend to see too much of in canon, where he's not being, like, big-headed or show-offy in his assistance, or trying to win points or respect, he's just trying to make sure his people are looked after, to the point, even, of ignoring Peeves' vandalism. I like how we got to see a few emotions from him here, when often times in canon he feels a bit one-note, but you made him caring and approachable, a leader, nervous, awkward, shy, and then brave, all while cycling back to that very Percy ending of, "after all, rules were rules"! haha
Really great, not that I'm surprised. Is there anything you can't write well?
*snowball*
okay, i can't help it, i love the image of percy talking nonsense to audrey's pregnant stomach. it's so adorable and i can hear the voice in my head, and audrey is somehow both amused and decidedly Over It™. and i love how she tries to bring him back with a sweet "change of topic, my love" because she just knows he can get on these rants and it's hard to get him to talk about something other than what he's ranting about (in percy's defense, though, that guy does sound like a bit of an idiot)
and i also really appreciated the bits about liking someone's voice -- because while we personally might find it annoying, someone we love might love it
& the kiss on the forehead was really sweet -- i loved that
<33
one of my favorite things in these fluff pieces is that we get to experience quieter moments like these - ones we wouldn't necessarily get in a longer fic. but they really just show the growth and understanding of percy & audrey's relationship. i love that percy is confident and comfortable enough to confinde in his wife, and she's respectful when he doesn't want to talk about it -- which isn't a surprise at all, given how lovely they've been the entire time they've been together
and i do really feel for percy - sometimes it seems that no matter what we do, it's never enough for the right people, and there's not necessarily good reasons why we can't face them on particular days. and i love that you chose to do this prompt as more of a mental thing rather than a physical, if that makes sense. and of course, i'm swooning at percy being a dad - he's already killing it <3
*snowball* <3
melanie! *tosses snowball [hopefully]*
ugh, your interpretations of the prompts are so creative and clever and adorable, and i love it so much. i love that molly is the one meeting friends and family. and you always absolutely nail percy's character, but especially here; the distinction between being a father and a dad was so profound and i have a feeling percy will be doing just fine, especially with audrey at his side
and i also love how i could hear his thoughts spiraling and how he was never sure he would be ready -- until he was holding molly, and how sure he was that he was going to be ready. because failing her wasn't an option. and i'm just so happy that percy gets to share this journey with someone as wonderful as audrey, and i know they'll help each other along the way <3
i also got a good chuckle out of percy talking about the bet with george -- sometimes he's more weasley than he gives himself credit for, and you do such a great job with it, as always. AND! i'm saying the word love a lot but i also love how you briefly touched on percy's relationship with arthur. it makes sense that that was why he'd be concerned about being a dad, especially given his siblings' relationship with their dad, and it was just a nice addition to it
excellent fluff as always, friend! still convinced you're the only one who could make me root for percy, haha <33
Hiya, Mel! Looks like I skipped this chapter somehow, so here goes.
Percy learning on the fly seems a real novelty - especially to him, I bet. He's surprisingly deft with kids when he needs to be, though. You've found his heart, I reckon. Nice work.
This was really a nice story to read. Reminds me of how it is to talk to very bright little kids - most of the ones I used to know are all in their 30s now. Thanks - well done!
George
just stand still for a minute which i aim my snowball catapault at you... :P
mahahaha okay i gotta say first of all that i've kind of missed your percy??? like, he's just so awkward and so kind of almost honest inside his own head (he's so hard on himself but it's something i do relate to a lot tbh) but you have this wonderful way of putting things which i think are so common into his voice and having him bring life to these kind of really difficult, awkward things which we all think but perhaps try not to give too much time to - like, yk, exactly this :P
and omg there's a real sweetness to it?? like, it's funny and awkward because it's percy and it's first times and they're teenagers and all three of those things are always pretty awkward, but it is also genuinely pretty sweet - because of the nervousness haha, and the tentative way they ask each other if it was alright. and haha the way they're so shy afterwards because they don't know how to be after sex, haha, it's so cute and so teenager-ish haha.
and i lovelovelove how percy is obsessed with the idea - inside his own head of course - of slotting his performance in sex into school-type grades bahaha :P it's so perfectly appropriate for him tbh but i'm also like dude... at least he didn't say it out loud :P (that might have got him bumped down to a P)
so so good as always!!! :)
laura xx
Fluff incoming! And snowball fluff too (maybe hah)!
I. LOVE THIS! But safe to say I've loved every application of every prompt you've done for this serious :) As always your dialogue is just spot on! And I loved learning more about Lucy. Who like....often gets so overlooked in fanfiction for Molly II. So I like that this was getting to learn more about her. And not just her sexuality, but the subjects she potentially struggles with at school, her cat eye glasses (how ADORABLE) and the like!
“I thought it was no boys until Fifth Year.”
^^ Oh and this hahah...oh Percy, you do have your work cut out for you, boy!
Anyway, awesome job on this! You're so close to the end now, we'll just need to persuade you to write fluff of a different nature to satisfy all our Weasley fluff needs, when you finish this!
Well done, my friend!
<3 Courtney
melanie! *throws snowball*
i feel like i start every review like this, but ugghhh melanie, they are so freaking cute and i adore them. i love that you took this prompt and used it to show their wedding - it feels like everything has led up to this moment, and you've done such a good job of building up their relationship over the last few fluffs and it's so, so great to see percy getting married after all of his trials & tribulations of dating. of course percy would be a bit anxious about everything and the bit with bill and charlie had me giggling -- just the sort of antics i'd expect from the two elded weasley boys <3
also, i adored the bit about ron being gone for half a year - you don't really think about it in terms of the family because we were with ron & harry for the books, but i can only imagine how rough it was for the rest of them. anyway, i just loved that little bit of a mention there but nobody really dwelled on it
and percy staring at audrey is just so sweet, and i swoooned at the "i'll just have to look at you, then" because these two really are just absolutely perfect together
this was so cute & creative, just like most of these fluff pieces, and exactly what i needed tonight. excellent job, as always <33
I love how Molly's being such an older sister, being all "I told you so" but also being genuinely worried about her little sister.
I felt Percy's freaking out and trying not to freak out to my core. It's so scary realizing your child is in danger but also having to keep it together and not let them see you be afraid because then that might freak them out even more.
And then Lucy assumes her father is never afraid of anything but that, of course, isn't the truth. I'm glad Percy admitted that he wasn't being very honest about that and that there are plenty of times when he's afraid of things. It's important for children to know that fear is a part of life and they shouldn't feel ashamed for feeling it sometimes.
And that last line: "i've got you either way." My heart <3<3<3
Quilly
Awe this was so adorable.
I can't get enough of Percy being dad. He is such a good one. I love the patience with which he bears it all (all that glitter would've driven me crazy too hehe). The constant tiredness of having children of that age is super relateable but then he's also so happy with his girls and willing to brush the tiredness aside in order to make more moments with them.
And the tiny little detail of him having Molly say 'please' also really touched me because, of course, Percy would expect his daughters to have manners but he would teach it to them in the most loving way.
As always, it was a joy returning to the fluffy world of Percy Weasley <3
- Quilly
Brilliant, Mel! No one gets Percy like you do - you've even made me like the guy. And now he's become a sort of semi-hip 50s sitcom dad! I love it. Your dialogue is spot on as usual, Lucy and Audrey are great, but Percy just keeps getting better with each iteration of this collection. Sorry I can't offer you a frozen milkshake, but there's really nothing to improve here!
George
Hi again! Happy snow season tag :)
Ahhh, this is so cute! And it's also so perfect for this cold season, when I want to cuddle with my own SO
I love all the internal narration, and how Percy tends to drown in his own turmoil. The fear of being seen, the jealousy, and the packed schedules all seemed really on brand for him. I don't love it for Percy, but I definitely relate, and I also know that he'll be okay.
It also really seems like Penny washes all that fear away when they're flirting over their schoolwork. The way that it ends with Percy smiling in that single-line paragraph, it's just clear that he's so satisfied with where they are now, even if he has this anxiety.
They're SO cute! I have no more to say
Thanks!
Cat
So sweeet! That end line was lovely!
And ahh kids just know how to point out the obvious and argue against all platitudes with their logic, which you show quite well here with Lucy. And then Percy trying SO HARD not to be a frantic, panicky Dad. I felt it so much.
I really liked your application of this prompt in this series! :) I can't wait to see what the other two hold.
<3 Courtney
Also TAG! :)
THIS WAS SO PERFECT AND CUTE AND OH MY GOD, I LOVED IT
(hi melanie here for our swap!)
i love that we see versions of percy's speech in his head, the things he wants to say but never quite does. it's such a great representation of how loud our thoughts can be sometimes, but i love that in the scene, he seems less nervous and more confident and self-assured. he knows he loves audrey, and that she loves him; and it doesn't matter where they are or what they're wearing, even though he's aware that it's something that should be important. but the only thing that really matters is them, and i love how he thinks about it like that <3
and oh my goddd, the way he kept talking about it being a privelige - some real romantic stuff there, melanie, i was definitely swooning. and this was such a creative way to take the prompt, too - rather than making it smutty or sensual (though they've definitely had plenty of moments like that), it's softer and more romantic and just the perfect moment for both of them. i'm so glad percy got to this place and that audrey has helped him get there
and i loved how percy took into account what audrey would want - nothing public or flashy, and the same with the ring, too. and the line about how he had the rest of his life to buy her fancy things - my heart <3 <3
this was so delightful and amazing and wonderful. thanks for the swap, friend <3
Hi Melanie. Here for our swap <3
Getting trapped inside the floo network sounds terryfing. Like, it'd probably me a week straight to be brave enough to enter it after reading an article like that, even though it sounds like the network itself wasn't to blame.
when he'd been attempting to make a surprise visit to a witch who was not Mrs. Montague but with whom he is nevertheless quite close... bahaha I literally laughed out loud with this one.
I love the dynamics these two have. The way Audrey is kind of no nonsese, taking away the paper and doing away with it but in this really soft and kind kind of way where she's giving him forehead kisses and brushing stray bits of hair.
And Lucy will be here soon <3 I loved how Percy's just having a full on conversation with his unborn daughter, going on about the new quidditch regulations. It was just such a soft and beautiful moment between the three of them.
Thank you for this lovely piece. It left my heart feeling warm. <3
Love, Quilly.
Yes, it's me hitting you in tag again! :P
Aww, little, sweet Lucy... it's okay to be afraid, everyone is at times! <3 But I can see how, in a family of mostly Gryffindors, lack of bravery could be a big issue... :P And children always have this idea that their parents are perfect and unafraid, when, really, parents are so often terrified, especially when their children's safety is concerned... am I right? ;)
(Side note, how did Lucy end up on the roof in the first place? :P Accidental magic, I suppose? Molly's I-told-you-so attitude was so funny, too :P)
Anyway, I absolutely adored that conversation between Percy and Lucy, and how stunned he was by her arguments... and I love the way Percy tried to put himself on her level and how he listened to her concerns and how he encouraged her, it was so very sweet! I think I mentioned before, but Percy is really a great dad! <3
And that final line! "But you decide," he added, taking her little hand. "I've got you either way." It's just so lovely! Like, I'm respecting your choices, and in whichever case I have your back! It's such a beautiful sentiment and just peak parenting! I also really, really loved this bit: "I promise you, I'm scared of a lot of things." / "Like what?" she sulked in patent disbelief. / Failure. Decisions with no clear answer. Walking into a room where everyone was in on a joke except for him. No one knows Percy like you do, but those sounds like the perfect fears for Percy, but he doesn't share with Lucy because they are adult fears, and would probably be too complicated for her to fully understand... but the answer he does give is still completely sincere! <3
Aww, all of these drabbles are just so perfect, I adored this one so, so much! <3 Wonderful job as always, my dear! <3
Big snowball hug,
Chiara
Hi, Melanie! Tag right back! :D
Aww... Dad-Percy is the best Percy! <3 Ahahah! Of course his life would now be full of glitter, lol! :P And of course he would be constantly exhausted... life must be frantic with two little girls... but also, I bet, very much worth it! <3
This is a very cute chapter! I love all of it, I love Molly being "all grown up", hence not fit for afternoon naps (but then promptly falling asleep on the sofa). I love the Muggle book that's so inaccurate... :P (I mean, isn't that such a typical Percy complain? :P Btw, I suppose this is an actual series? I don't know it, but I'm curious so I might just google it up when I'm done with the review :P) and how Percy tries to trick Molly by making up the text :P I just love the domesticity of this scene, and how authentic of life with little children it sounds, and I love to see this softer side of Percy... I mean, we've seen it in other moments already, but the affection that he has for his daughter just shines through and it's so beautiful to see! <3
And how amusing that Audrey caught him still reading :P I love their dynamic, it's so simple and so cute and so them! <3
Another absolutely adorable chapter, just like all the chapters in this collection! Always a pleasure to come back here! <3
Big snowball hug,
Chiara
Ooh we have babies! This is not a drill, we now have mini-Percy/Audrey humans! Ok, how did I miss thissss update?!
GLITTERRRR. God Percy would never take me as a wife. But that's ok, we're not compatible beyond a one night thing anyway xD (Jesus Christ this review is already brimming to the top with insanity LOL, focus Courtney, focus).
Anywayyyy....this is super duper adorable. I love that he asks if she had a SUCCESSFUL BIRTHDAY. Like what a dork. Not like "did you have fun?" or something otherwise light and what most children are concerned about but SUCCESSFUL. It's hilarious but cute and still totally convivial.
But I also love that he cannot escape the sparkles. It's even on the book cover LOL. Which we learn Percy takes issue with for "accuracy sake." Thank god for Audrey with the whole sanity check of "it's fiction, love." I just. THEYRE SO PRECIOUS I WANNA CRYYYY. Even in this very simple domestic slice of life, I love them all to pieces. So much.
And then he gets into it. And like all guilty pleasures you're like UHM NO THIS ISN'T GOOD. But listen, kids books, middle grade books, ya, all good stuff. Especially nowadays. And I love that we see that here! Because yeah, all books can be excellent!
And honestly, I relate SO MUCH to this moment. Because as a parent to kids this age, yes, giving up your pastimes or altering them in lieu of your own child's happiness...totally a thing. I totally get it. So I love that we see Percy taking something that he loves (i.e. reading) and then still finding enjoyment where he can within this whole self-sacrificing element of parenting that happens no matter how hard you try and fight it.
And then the whole "pls get me a new book, so I can enjoy this 'me' time while also enjoying Molly time," very sweet and relatable.
I loved this one a whole lot!
<3 Courtney
Oh and...HP TAG! (Unless the gods have other plans!)
melanieee oh my god. here for our swap!
this was honestly incredible. i love how you wrote this, it was so creative and you somehow managed to pack so much in under 100 words. how did you do that?? i loved how this was written almost as a converseation in itself, and it's hard to tell if it's a conversation percy's having with himself in his head - if he's just repeating the same things that his previous lovers have told him and he's doing his best to push them out and ignore them while he's with audrey - if that makes sense. but i also loved how he pulled the bossy around and made it a good trait to have
and i just love that percy and audrey are able to have these moments together and thoroughly enjoy each other with no interruptions, honestly they truly deserve it <3
amazing job with this, thanks for the swap <3
Hey, Melanie, my dear! :D
I wanted a little break from exploring the mansion, but I'm still in a bit of a review mood, so I thought I'd profit and hit you in tag... :P
Two months ago, Minister for Magic Matthias Montague found himself in an embarrassing state of undress in the Muggle Prime Minister's office, when he'd been attempting to make a surprise visit to a witch who was not Mrs. Montague but with whom he is nevertheless quite close. Oh, my! You killed me with this one! Lol! Have I ever told you I adore your humour? <3
Ahahah! I can just picture Percy reading and re-reading the article and getting more indignant by the minute... :D This is all just too perfect! And, aww... I absolutely adore the way you used the prompt!!! I love the kiss on the forehead, and how it distracted Percy enough that he surrended the newspaper... it's just so adorable and so soft and such an Audrey move, you know? <3 <3 <3
And, aww... she's pregnant with Lucy!!! <3 <3 <3 Can this chapter get any more adorable??? The image of Percy talking to Lucy in the womb about new Quidditch regulations and Audrey rolling her eyes, and Lucy kicking and Percy pretending it means that Lucy agrees with what he's saying... it's just the loveliest image, I'm smitten! <3
I've missed this collection so much! I'm so happy there are new chapters for me to enjoy! I will be back! <3
Big snowball hug,
Chiara
