Oh my god.
Breathtaking. What an amazing picture you create here in so few words, these characters so full and the way they feel for one another, all through these few actions and dialogue and reflections you're able to include. In under 1000 words you've told these entire love story from beginning to end.
I don't even know which part is the most perfect here. The thing about not wearing her heart on her sleeve but it's behind a zipper -- and then that comes full circle at the end where every time Rajik completes a heart surgery there's a part of him that heals -- he couldn't save her but he can save them. He can do what he can.
The thing about "I don't want to break your heart because mine is broken." What a statement.
Beautiful.

(galazy event)
Hi there! I am back to read more of your work for the galazy review event
The image of someone opening Josie Mae up and having access to her heart is insanity. And it's both a great piece of imagery and a truth, as she has her open heart scar. Wow, so well-written
And I ADORE that flip to Rajik's perspective -- and just like that, he was smitten
And then all the things he is addicted to, and she is one of them. And though his other addictions fade, she remains. I love this so much, how do you get me so invested???
Oh NO why did you. What this turned so quickly. I was in love with them, why does she still need to be on the transplant list?? You are litterally having me tear up again, this is so heartbreaking. And she won't let him lose her as a wife :((((
Oh my god, how did you make me fall in love and cry so fast?? This is such an amazing piece of work. I love it so much. And if these are your own characters, I would love to see more of them (and I love their names <3)

Author's Response:These are my own characters, actually. I hadn't really thought about writing more of them, it can be difficult for me because my cousin has this congenital heart defect. So the Fontan surgery is actually the fourth in a series of open heart surgeries that adds a fourth chamber to a heart that was originally defective. If the surgery is successful, patients can generally make it into their twenties before needing to be on the transplant list. So it wasn't that she had to go back on it, she was never on it in the first place. < 3
