Reviews For Dinner for Three

Oh, my. this is an unusual beginning, and yet it sounds as if it could turn into a comedy of errors.  There is a light-hearted tone to this scene. As Draco might think to himself, it's so goofy that maybe, just possibly, it could work.

I love the dialogue as Pansy and Harry pitch thier totally-unexpected proposition to Draco, and they all seem to need a fair amount of wine to muster up enough "Dutch courage" (no offense meant to the Dutch) to actually say what they want to say.

In real life, if we can speak of real life in fanfics, Draco might need a little more time to think things over, but it's charming that he takes to the idea as quickly as he does, and the practical discussion at the end of the chapter concerning which house would be the best one to go to was the tiny bit of humor that finished off the chapter perfectly.  It's a dry sort of humor, absurd things being said with a perfectly straight face. and that's the kind of humor I like the best.

Nice job.  Fun to read.

hi,

here for the reviewing event

"Three drama queens all under the same roof. It's always a riot."   < i love this line so much because it really sums up the whole story and who they are. they do seem like they're having a riot with each other. it was really interesting to see a little snapshot of the Draco and Pansy together because they seem to have a different dynamic. they feel so comfortable with each other but they still have such a good chemistry. there is obviously so much love in this relationship and I thought you've shown that so thoughtfully, it seems like they're soft lovers to each other. it's about the things they do for each other. Harry feels like the fire. This is such an addictive interesting fic. well done on creating relationships that I couldn't really dream of! I'm enjoying them so much :)

Hi,

here for the galazy reviewing event :)

I really like how you've used food as the centerpiece for this fic and I think it works so well because food is something that involves everyone. it is a time when people can just come together which is so wonderful and lovely. I think this fic is obviously about togetherness of Draco, Harry and Pansy.

They have such wonderful banter between particularly Draco and Harry. I think Pansy really does enjoy being in middle of that. it's all very friendly, cute and quite flirty. they all seem very happy. I love the descriptions of their house and how it's a bit of everyone in there which is lovely. I love the chemistry between all the characters, the dialogue is so funny again. this fic has so much warmth to it. <3

Hi,

I'm here for galazy reviewing event :)

This is such an interesting idea for a story. I wouldn't have put these three together at all but I really loved that dynamic that you created in the chapter between them. I love how comfortable draco seems to be with both of them. they seem to have a lovely relationship. I can imagine draco loving going to restaurants with Pansy. I love the name of restaurant that you've chosen here too. very cute.

I like that draco seems to have anxieties but he isn't totally broken by the war like a lot of fics. I enjoyed the playful energy and knowing that a lot of issues which may come into the relationship between the three are somewhat resolved or not a big part of the story at least (maybe it'll come up later?). I enjoyed reading a lighter draco. It's interesting that you have explored some of the issues in poly dyamics, like draco enjoying the physical side with Harry and more emotional aspects with Pansy. I thought you did a really good job with the dialogue in this chapter. I'm really interested to see where you're going with this story.

Heya! I'm here with a belated entry review for Julie and I's Bi Rep Challenge! :)

Initially I was a bit perplexed how this Draco/Harry & Draco/Pansy dynamic was going to work out, especially as Draco himself thought both Harry and Pansy were breaking up with him (bless him, the doofus) when in reality they were simply trying to implement more directly polamory. You did a great job writing Draco's confusion and then processing of that situation, and the acceptance they all have with each other is so lovely. I really liked that they alternate cooking dinners on Sunday night and it's a rule everyone must be present -- it's a good relationship strengthener to have something like that every week to look forward to, no matter how good or bad your week has been so far. Harry going out of his way and into harm's way just to buy birthday presents is so true to form, even if Ron and Hermione don't understand completely. The boys' bisexuality is very clear and open and present throughout the piece, and the trio really have a great dynamic! Great job with this :)

Well, there we go, the conclusion. :)

I loved that Ron drove them home. Especially because poor Draco was in a right state over being in a car. And I love that the first thing Harry wanted to do was sit on his couch. He's so cute. :D

But then...the presents. Omfg. The mural. Draco as an artist is amazing. I love the idea. And I love how it was described. Sounds like it'd be a good nursery someday, am I right? ;)  And Harry giving them all rings!! Wow. What a darling idea. And then Pansy's gift. Wow. I love the idea that magic could combine DNA like that in order to have a baby with three biological parents. That's so sweet.

Finally, I just have to say that this was an especially cute story. You did a great job with the characterization of everyone and the plot was really sweet and fun. Even with Harry's mishap. Really good job with this! Thanks for a great read!

Best,
Emily

Me, out loud: "You massive idiot."

Honestly. Honestly. Okay. So, this is my favorite chapter of the story so far. It's just so appallingly Harry that I can't even. His characterization in this is absolutely spot-on. I want to throttle him.

When I read that he was in the Extreme Magical Distress Ward, I immediately thought, "Yup. Sounds about right." Because jfc, Harry. How could you not think that apparating that far would have adverse consequences?

I felt terrible for Pansy and Draco sitting in the waiting room. Pansy was more obviously a wreck than Draco was, but I'm sure he was also falling apart. How could their partner do something so stupid and reckless? Oh right. It's Harry. ...But honestly, I really did love the moment Draco and Pansy shared in the waiting room as they tried to hold each other together.

The explanation of Harry's injuries (with "rivulets of blood coming out of his ears, nose, eyes," yikes) as "complex ruptures of most of your major organs" is basically exactly what I predicted in the last chapter's review. 'Cause like...yeah. He scrambled the egg too much. It couldn't quite unscramble. He should definitely consider himself lucky that he isn't sludge.

When Draco and Pansy were finally let in (And good job to Harry for insisting they be!! He's a damn orphan, and his partners are the people closest to him. Let the man have them—his family—visit!), I was so worried. They seemed so sad and unsure of what to say. It made me extra sad that Draco seemed to be keeping his distance, and then Pansy asked him to leave. :(   I just want him to feel okay again. Poor Draco.

I'm excited for this story's conclusion. Really good job on this chapter!

Best,
Emily

I just said, out loud, "Jesus Christ, Harry."

BUT REALLY. I knew he was panicking about not having a gift, but the man just did so many reckless things in so little time. I'm exhausted just thinking of putting up with him. He's going to be lucky if Pansy and Draco don't lose their minds trying to take care of him.

Anyhow, this chapter starts with Hermione and Ron, which is nice! I'd wondered what they thought of Harry's relationship. Ron, of course, is tactless as ever. But I liked that Harry didn't seem to be hiding anything. And that he was able to reminisce about being at Hogwarts and the first time he saw Draco and all sorts of other cheesy things. :D  ...Before making the dumbass decision to apparate across an ocean again. I'm so unsurprised, haha.

I'm glad he was able to find things on his shopping trip, but I'm also basically freaking out that he like...splinched his insides or something. I've probably got more to say about this chapter, but I'm going to stop here so that I can read on and figure out what's wrong with him.

Well done again!

Best,
Emily

Hellooooo I am here to (finally) review you for the challenge!!

I have to admit, Draco/Harry or Harry/Pansy? Not my favorite pairing. But I like what you've done here to introduce a polyamorous aspect quite a lot. It feels really natural and awkward in the sense that, most people don't come to polyamory like, completely 100% comfortable or knowing what to do. So I liked that we followed Draco through the "uh oh" emotions of thinking he was getting 2x broken up with, and then the uncertainty and the awkwardness of Harry and Pansy both kind of being like - wait, no, we don't want to break up with you actually, we want to find a way for this to work between all three of us. And naturally, Draco isn't 110% in from the beginning, but the reader sees that he wants to and also sees some of his internal ?! that eventually lands on, yes, this is something we can try and maybe it'll be worth it and I really liked that. It felt realistic, and I thought an adept handling of the representation of both Bisexuality and Polyamory! <3

Hello again!

This is such a peaceful chapter. I really do love the ease of the relationship between Draco and Pansy. They really have known each other forever, so it's nice to see that that closeness is so natural at this point.

Pansy is so funny in this story. I adore her. xD  I especially loved the lines: "Potter did something dramatic just because he could, colour me surprised," said Draco dryly.    "It's why we were meant to be," Pansy said. "Three drama queens all under the same roof. It's always a riot."

I was a bit confused when Pansy and Draco were talking about what she got for him for her birthday. Shouldn't he be gifting something to her? Hm. Maybe the next chapter will clarify.

Anyhow, good job with this one! I'm really enjoying this story. :)

Best,
Emily

ahhh! hi

Pansy in my fic gives gifts for other people on her birthday. It's like her thing to give more than she receives.

This living situation is so stinkin' precious that I just can't. I love how you've written all three characters and how they interact together. Your version of Draco is fantastic. I'm head over heels for him. :D

The idea of Sunday dinners is so sweet. All three of them are so busy, but making time for their relationship isn't something they sacrifice. That's really sweet.

I love Harry insisting on doing some things the Muggle way—like smashing mints with a hammer. Because, hey, he's right. Some things are better when you do them by hand, and smashing things is definitely one of them.

And I love Draco lovingly caressing his wine bottles like a total weirdo. xD

And I extra love that Pansy is some sort of...artist?? I'm thrilled to find out what she does, because she seems so cool.

I'm excited to see their dinner together and how it goes. I'm sure it's going to be fabulous, even with Harry having to run off to buy a present (I assume) because he totally forgot their girlfriend's birthday. What a champ, haha.

Hope you read the rest of it. There's a sudden twist! :P

I have to say: I'm so excited about reading this.

I was eager to read more Pansy stories, and this definitely fit the bill for both 1) a story that featured Pansy, and 2) a story with a pairing/triad I've never read before. I really like reading rare ships, so this is sure to be really fun!

I have to start by saying that your characterization here is really good. I'm a big fan of Draco in all sorts of stories, and this is a version of him I haven't seen too often. Insecure!Draco is rare! Or, maybe not "insecure," but...hm. "Unsure"? Well, either way, it was so sad when he thought he was being dumped by both Pansy and Harry. The fact that he thought they would ask him to dinner, ambush him with a breakup, and then expect him to stick around to drink and chat...omfg. He's so dumb, but so cute. I'm so glad that that isn't what was happening.

I think there will probably be some growing pains as these three adjust to their new life together, but I think it will be really good for them. They clearly each contribute something to the relationship, and they're all comfortable with each other, which is important in any relationship.

So far, so good! Great opening chapter!
