I picked this one hoping it was about baking. I love baking. It's one of my favorite ways to destress from a long week. Scones are my favorite, breaking the butter and dry ingridients between your fingers until it turns from sand to dough. Just like you write here (except I'm usually blasting BTS or Hadestown not classical music low XD).

I love the image you paint here though, of carrying that recipe down from generation to generation. The solitude of loss is present in this as well as the idea of alone and taking solace in baking. Very very powerful piece.

- Jacquelin

Author's Response:

Hello again! <3

So glad you could relate to this one, too! There is something so very soothing about baking, right? (I'm more a soft, background music kind of person, but again, to each their own :P)

I'm so glad you liked the idea of the passed down from generation to generation recipe. And the duality of solitude in this particular instance, the grief and the solace. It's exactly what I was going for! <3

Thank you so much!!!

This one just hit me in the gut. the voice of your soul. oh I just love that. And I love how like resolute this drabble is. The end of it is like, dust yourself off and get back out there. Don't let it stop you - find a way to center yoursefl and keep on keeping on. I honestly hate silence usually - I don't like to just be. I want to do. But there are times when I'm at my wits end and I do exactly like you say here. Just breathe, just let your mind wander.

- Jacquelin

Author's Response:

Hello again, Jacque, dear! <3

As an extremely introverted person, I do need that time to be alone with myself and "just be", like you say, but of course that's not how it works for everyone :P Either way, finding a way to center ourselves and regain the strenght to face the world is something that all of us need to do, one way or another, right? I'm glad you could relate to an extent, even if this isn't who you are most of the time. And I'm glad you liked the phrasing and the push to keep going. <3

Thank you for another lovely review! <3

Back for another and once again - wow. These are just heartbreaking and poignant pieces. This idea of solitude - that can be a good experience or a bad experience - I love how you're exploring that. And I love the complexitiy of this one especially. That they're happy for solitude, but only because being around others is so painfully disappointing.

- Jacquelin

Author's Response:

Hi again! <3

I'm so glad you are enjoying this collection, and how solitude can be both good or bad depending on the circumstances. And yes, sometimes solitude is welcome just because being around other people is so painful... :( (This is a particularly sad one, I agree... :/)

Thank you so much again! <3

Oh wow this was so stunning. Hope it's okay I'm just sort of bouncing around these different drabbles rather than in alphabetical order. This was so powerful and like - made me want to pause. corporeal but blurring. What a fantastic phrase. SO perfect for a crowd. And the thought that we're too busy to speak up and show our selves - crushing.

- Jacquelin

Author's Response:

Hi, Jacque! Thank you so much for stopping by! <3

So glad you liked this one! (And it's totally fine if you just jump around. These are just glimpses of life that don't need to be read in any particular order anyway :P)

Isn't it how it works, though? We are constantly surrounded by people, but they are just strangers that we hardly register being there and so are we for them. And often we are also running along with our lives that we don't have the time to just stop and look around us. Anyway, I'm so glad you liked this one! <3

Thank you so much for the lovely review! <3

hey chiara, omg last chapter *sobs*

ngl, i'm sad that i've finished but i'm so glad to have the opportunity to review and revisit this wonderful collection of stories. I love the description in this one, the focus on colours and imagery is so nice. i didn't know what to expect from the chapter title but i think was expecting space/rocket etc. but i love the concept for this one so much. I've never thought about photos as captured memories before but of course they are! we really get a sense of who the narrator is in this story, his characterisation is noteable. I'm so proud of you signing off with this!

hey (here for the galazing reviewing event!)

I love this one! the description and metaphor for the train is so wonderful. I thought that was so effective to take into a perspective how it feels sometimes. some of these questions are so hard to answer like you just don't know and I think that sometimes that's okay. it's the toughest feeling to feel like it's going before your eyes.

I quite like the saying 'you only live once' but i think it use to say that after most sentences at one point when it was most in fashion in fact. *cringe* but I really loved how the energy build in this piece from missing the train to feeling brave enough to chase it back is *chefskiss*

Abbi xx

Author's Response:

Hi again, Abbi! :D

I'm so glad you liked this one, too! Glad you liked the metaphore of the train and thought it was effective! And no, it's not easy (I've been there a lot... still am, actually... this piece is mostly me trying to push myself, lol! :P)

I think I missed the moment when "you only live once" got overused and got a bad reputation, lol! :P But I think that in general is something we should keep in mind and try to enjoy our lives as best as we can! And yes, it's never too late to start chasing the train ;)

Thank you so much for another wonderful review! <3

heya! (reviewing for galazing event!)

this is another piece that hits super hard given the events in the world that you couldn't really predict from what you first wrote this but that's what makes it so powerful you know? it's scary that some thing like this is always going to be around (most likely) but it is more obvious than others. I think the world is in for a big hit of this soon even though compassionate is here currently as people are displaced.

you capture so many little moments which people have to face, just the small gestures which could mean nothing to some people but really it's just the tension rising little by little. this piece makes me very sad but again the narrator does show some hope for tomorrow and the future which lifts my spirits a bit because it's what i hope for too.

Abbi xx

Author's Response:

This one was one of the hardest to write, mainly because it's a sensitive topic that I have no first-hand experience of, but I've tried to write it in the most sensitive and authentic way I could, and I hope it worked well enough...

And yes, it's sad and painful that this is an issue still so present in our society in some form or another... it shouldn't be... :( and yes, it's often in the small gestures, isn't it? :/

I think we can always hope in a better tomorrow... after all, things have moved on across history, so there is hope that we'll keep growing and getting better, right? I like to think so, at least! <3

Thank you for another great review!!! <3

hi (here for the galazy reviewing!)

the title of this really creates a lot of ideas and images before you've even written a word. I love that you've referenced the idea of other characters to hightlight the desires of your unseen narrator. I love the concept of imagination which you use in this piece. it reminds me a bit of luna who refused to be anything else but herself even if she didn't need to belong to be happy (though i think she did enjoy having friends) which seems a lot llike this narrator too.

happiness is totally what you've made it and if happiness for them is 'in the sky' 'away from the world' then that's okay. I think your use of second person is very effective and emotive in this drabble in particular. I think there is a bit of all of us that wishes we had more freedom to join wonderland even if for just a little while.

Abbi xx

Author's Response:

Hi again! :D

Isn't this what we do with fanfic, though? Escaping to the worlds of our imagination, free to be fully ourselves at least for a little while? :P I love your comparison to Luna, she definitely knows how to be just herself, even if that means not being fully understood and accepted by others.

I'm glad you liked this piece and that it emotioned you! And that the second person helped emphasizing the emotions in the piece! :D

Thank you so much for another lovely review! <3

hey (here for the galazy reviewing event!)

I'm so impressed that you're managing coming up with titles which makes so much sense for your choice subject. oh, the emotions of the narrator were so beautifully written. I feel so sorry for her like it's difficult because we don't quite know the history of this pairing but honestly it doesn't matter in a way because the focus is purely on the narrator and it feels like she needs a hug. she's been hurt by the reaction of this guy's reaction.

I like how you've chosen some of the words in this piece like 'vortex' of emotions is particularly effective and again another 'v' word but 'vicinity' is used well too. I think this lacks some of the hopeful themes that i've seen in the other stories but i'm hoping that narrator gets a bit of hope after this drabbles takes place. the angst were perfectly played. I think you captured the phrase 'feeling alone in a room full of people' in this piece.

Abbi xx

Author's Response:

Hi again! <3

I'm so happy you think I did a good job choosing the words/themes for these drabbles. Some letters were a struggle to come up with, I have to admit :P Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this one! <3

I'm glad the emotions came through well! The poor girl... it is a rather painful piece... :/ So, what I had in mind when I wrote this was the aftermath of a bad break up, but I guess it doesn't really matter the circumstances and everyone can interpret it as they like... I actually enjoy that these pieces can be read differently from person to person... :P

One thing that maybe not everyone noticed, the first word of each drabble starts with the same letter as the title. I don't know why I decided to give myself the extra challenge, but I did... :P I've always liked allitterations, so I've tried to play with that here and there, and I'm happy it stood out in this piece in particular! :D

As for the narrator getting some hope after this drabble... I'm sure she did, eventually :P High school breakups are hard, but you heal eventually, right? Surely she'll find her happiness at some point ;)

Thank you for another lovely review! <3

hey chiara, i'm back for more ;)

this is piece that really leaves me thinking about the world. i think you've tackled such a big subject in the this drabble. i think you've done such a wonderful job at addressing a lot of those feelings/emotions of doing being so so small in the world. so is this from the pov of aliens or thinking about another universe or like higher power. I'm not sure but I think this piece just makes me feel really thoughtful and that's so nice to evoking emotions in others like that?? the best things are ones that have you remembering them long after you've read that. this seems like a piece like that

Author's Response:

Hi, Abbi! Back for some review answering! :D

I'm so glad you could relate to this piece! I think we all stop and think about how small we are in the vastity of the universe, right? As for the twist at the end... I've always thought that in the vastity of the universe there must be some other inhabited planet, but it's probably so far away that we'll never get in contact with it... and if that's true, then why wouldn't those inhabiting this hypotetical planet wonder the same things we do? I thought it was a fun perspective to show... :P

In any case, I'm very glad this gave you something to think about and that it emotioned you! Thank you so much for the lovely review!!! <3

hi again - here for the galazy reviewing event!

I love how you address the passage of time. the idea of working and counting that clock then wanting to be free. it was very effective with the repeating of 'tick tock' to create an emotional punch. sometimes it feel like life is getting away from us like always wishing for something a bit different. i can relate to wanting to holding onto that day because you feel like you didn't achieve enough or something. oh no, it can't be another day already. i think it feel quite called out in a way but it's kinda nice to know that other feel the same way. perhaps it's not wasting life, it's just the way that life is. it's not all excitement sometimes it is just looking at the clock. lovely emotional impact in this piece I though.

Abbi xx

Author's Response:

Hi again! :D

This one is definitely sad... sometimes it feels like life is just slipping and every day is the same and time passes so slow and so quick at once... I feel like that a lot, unfortunately... and I'm sorry that it is a familiar feeling for you, too... :/ but yeah, you're right, life can't be all excitement all the time... :P

Glad you found this one impactful! Thank you for another great review! <3

hi chiara lovely (here for the galazy reviewing event!)

omg, i love how you describe silence, like to some people that silence is the worst thing about solitude is the silence which might feel like emptiness. I love how you write the narrator as someone who values the silence and it makes them a happier person for having it. they can really connect with themselves, the 'voice in your soul' is a really powerful and interesting concept.

I'm living for those themes of hope again, how the narrator seems to be like an introvert character and that comes across. I feel so proud of them for using the time, sleep and silence to recharge and come back stronger. I feel like this drabble could be a follow on from the 'introvert' like when she is home from the party. beautiful <3

Abbi xx

Author's Response:

Sometimes you just need to be alone with yourself and silence can be so refreshing, you know? At least for me, and I guess for many introverts, lol! :P The noises of the external world can be overwhelming, and some silence can help you recharge from time to time :)

This is definitely a more hopeful and happy kind of solitude! I'm so glad you liked this chapter, too! <3

Thank you so much!!!

hi chi - here for the reviewing event :)

i love the aesthetic  of this piece, there is something so amazing about being inside and just watching the rain falling down and everything is just right in your world because you're in the warm and dry. i love those vibes so much. I love how you've captured feel of quietness and peace before the heavens just like open up, that's some really powerful but quiet imagery there. i knew i love this drabble set but getting the time to review them is so lovely. I can't believe how you've played on emotions is so many different way around the same themes. I love this one a lot because again it's one that I can relate to a lot.

Abbi xx

There's something so peaceful about watching the rain fall from the safety and warmth of your home, right? I'm so glad you liked the vibes of this piece and the imagery and that you could relate to it! And I'm so glad you are so enjoying the collection in general, and all the different emotions linked to the main theme of solitude! <3

hey chi (here for the galazy reviewing event!)

i thought that q might be a tough letter to use but you've nailed it here. we're a little more removed from the situation as to when this was written but it still hits really hard tbh. it brings back a lot of memories, it's crazy how much it was a time of lonely which you've captured but there was some spirit there too. like we're all alone but in this together. (at least the beginning of the pandemic was!)

it's extra special to get to read this now because that beautiful hoping ending of this story. also i love how you've mixed both themes of hope and loneliness together. we are nearly out of the other side now even though it took a lot longer than extra year when you wrote that but life is getting better and that's the important thing now <3

Abbi xx

Author's Response:

Hi again, Abbi, my love! <3

The choice for Q was quite obvious, to be honest... :P especially because I wrote this in the full of the pandemic... :P

It's been a hard time, with the lockdowns and everything, and I'm sorry if this brought back some hard memories... but yeah, we are almost back to normal now! And yes, there is some kind of comfort in how we were all alone together, like with the singing from the balconies from the early covid.

I'm glad that you liked the hopeful note at the end here! Yes, it took longer than just a year, but we are almost out of it now, and yes, that's all it matters! :D

Thank you so much for the lovely review! <3

Hi - here for the galazy reviewing event :)

I love this piece so so much! it's punchy, dramatic and powerful. the way that it starts so slowly and it builds up from there is just beautiful. all the different sounds together like there is such a fantastic mental picture that you've painted here that I feel so caught up. there seems to be so many big emotions in this piece, the piano is the world. I love concept that the music is searching for something, it needs something. the move to silent is just so final and bold. it's a short piece but somehow I was totally carried away by it.

hello <3333

the imagery in this piece is so stunning, like you've captured the ocean in a way that I could never imagined. I love the idea that ocean is conquering the land. that's such an unique and interesting way of putting it. my favourite thing about this piece is the nature is being embarrassed by the sea, like that's just fantastic prospective on the way we view nature, so so gorgeous, probably some of your best description in this series so far.

I love the themes of loneliness comes from the sea, how mysterious and vast it seems. how you could be on the boat in the ocean and be more alone than you've ever been. such a big concept and I'm amazed how you put these into so few words. I always known this series so beautifully but I feel thankful for experience those again.

heyy - galazy reviewing event :)

oh wow, this is really heartbreaking. the narrator is really struggling to remember things and they're obviously feeling so much pressure from those around them to be better?? you've captured that feelings of confusion but also how the narrator feels a deep frustration like they should able to do this and the haunting question 'do you remember?' I guess the visitors feel something similar but I feel so deeply for the fact that you wish you were alone because you can't take the expectations of others, you're just really tired and to be alone will bring some peace. I think the choice of 'names' is very interesting as names and faces are so entwined with it each other, they define who people are but not remembering feels like erasing. that's something powerful even if it isn't their fault. </3

Abbi xx

Author's Response:

Hi!!! :D

Amnesia must be such a horrible and frustrating experience (not that I have any direct experience of it, I can only imagine...) And I'm sure the people around the narrator are good intentioned and trying their best, and that they are suffering, too... but feeling that pressure to remember must be so hard, and the fact that there should be memories there, but there aren't, must be so incredibly hard, too! And so, yeah, being left alone would be a relief... sad, but makes a lot of sense, right?

I'm glad you liked "Names" as a title/theme for this. Yes, names are a big part of our identity and so deeply linked to the way we perceive/are perceived by others...

Thank you for another great review! <3

Name: Crimson Quill (Signed) · Date: 26 Feb 2022 09:29 PM · For: M - Museum

hi lovelyyy <3

I've never really thought of a museum like you've described, being able to walk on water and across fields all in one room is something like magic! I don't go to too many art galleries or anything but I think I'm going to think about them a little differently having read this. in case, it makes me wanna go to one so I think you've just inspired a real desire for culture here.

I love the idea that a painting has just called out to the narrator maybe because the narrator feels a kinship to it. maybe the narrator feels connected about there is no title/author. the painting doesn't seem to belong to anyone and the narrator doesn't either, that's a wonderful connection. i love the little smile line <3

Abbi xx

(galazy reviewing event!)

Author's Response:

Hi again! :D

I really love paintings (well, maybe not all of them, it depends a lot on the subjects and styles, but I tend to like visual art) and getting lost in the portrayed scenes! And it's great visiting a museum and having access to all those different worlds at once! If this inspired you to go visit an art gallery, I'm very proud! :P

Art speaks to each of us in different ways, and you never know what piece of art will emotion you, and sometimes it isn't a famous and celebrated piece, sometimes it's the anonymous one nobody cares about... but I love your idea that maybe that's part of the reason for the connection, that the non-belonging creates a bond between the painting and the narrator, it's such an interesting and cool interpretation! Love it! <3

Thank you so much for another wonderful review!!!

Hi Chiara, here again <3

There is something in me that really connects with this piece and I think it's because I'm a parent so stuff like this really gets me so much. the emotions of a a child seem so much more heighten, the world seems so much bigger and scary for them. you really captured that this situation for the little boy is the end of the world, the worst thing that's happened to him. it's so sad when he goes up a stranger which makes his panic even more but his life world is restored by the sound of his mum's voice and something about that feels so comforting to me. you write young ages so well and really nail the aspects to make up a child's pov!

Author's Response:

Hi again! <3

Ah, I know, this one is kinda sad, but it all went well in the end, right? <3 Yes, I bet as a mother it would be particularly impactful for you! <3

Getting lost and separated from your parents can be incredibly scary for children... it does feel so much tragic to them than it can look like from an adult's pov. And mistaking a stranger for your parent can be so scary, too, when you realize your mistake... :/ but as I said before, he was found again, and all's well what ends well! <3

So glad you liked this one, too, and that you thought I captured his age well! <3 Thank you so much for another great review! <3

hello - here for galazy reviewing event :)

I love this so much! there is something very special and personal about a recipe passed through the family because every time you make it you'll feel so many memories flooding towards you particularly if those family members aren't there anymore. the last line really hit such a beautiful note.

I was so sad for the narrator but I don't think I need to be too sad because I think really she's in her happy place. I really like the description 'every worry dissolves like dandelion seeds in the wind.' there is something so wonderfully visual about this description which is just *chefskiss* < i think this is the most appropriate time that I've ever used this phrase. it's a new fave and it's a top tier compliment!! <3

Hi Abbi! Back again to catch up with my unanswered reviews! <3

I'm so glad you liked this one too! Yes, recipes passed through the family can be very special, and a way to keep the memory of those who've left us alive, in a way! <3 I'm so glad you liked the little bittersweet turn at the end! <3

I mean, it's a melanchonic moment, but also sort of happy, too. There's something incredibly soothing in the physical act of baking, at least for me, and that's what I was trying to express here! I'm so glad you liked the dandelions metaphore so much! <3

hi - here for the galazy reviewing event :)

this is just a perfect snap shot of the spirit of adventure which I love. I think it's a dream for most of us to go off and see the world, be unafraid of what the world is going to be like. I think you captured that all so beautifully in the first sentence of this piece. sometimes it is just that easy if you want it to be

i thought you covered that anxiety really well, there is a change of moods here for him suddenly he isn't so sure which is very valid emotion, I thought you described the feelings of anxiety so well so part of it gripped me for a moment too. I'm very glad that the character was only overcome for a second as this guy has places to go and I want him to go there. I love the description of him just wandering and he was so happy with the idea of going it alone and he didn't have anywhere to be but that was good for him. something about that idea that is very appealing! <3

I'm so glad you liked this one! Yes, I think we all dream to just go off and see the world... Personally, I've never had the courage to just travel alone, but it's an experience that would be so lovely! And yes, it's probably easier than we make it up in our heads, lol! :P

I think a moment of doubt would be only natural, when you are faced with an experience that is so new and unknown... but he does overcome it and go through with his adventure! :D

Here for your last chapter for the galazy!!

I feel like this is SUCH a good word to end on, and you definitely do it justice. I love how you start with "capture all the smallest details" i feel like that encompasses all the drabbles that came before. Like, remember all the things we know about solitude, in not a condescending way

It's just about taking everything and everything that you might take for granted. I love how you go from the small field of vision to the wide out, and then we are looking through a camera lens. That's such a cool device to frame the story.

And that last line, "an instant that tastes like eternity" is so beautiful. Like snapshots of life are what we live for, which i kind of love. Moments (in solitude or not) that make up our lives!!! that's what I take from this

Congratulations on such an amazing series, Chiara, I loved it so much!!

I'm glad you liked the switch from the small details and the wide picture, and how I used the photography theme here. I'm not sure if I was meaning this as deeply as you are reading it, but I like to read your interpretation and I'm glad this spoke to you in some ways! <3 And so glad you liked the "an instant that tastes like eternity" line, too! <3

Hey Chiara - here for the galazy reviewing event :)

I thought you've really well described that feeling being an introvert here. it can be very difficult to form human connections sometimes, i liked the imagery of her sat there looking at the party happening around her but there is something that is very hopeful about this piece too because she feels that she could leave but really she decided not to because she stand another half hour but i think that's the spirit that she wants to put herself out there a little unless despite how she feels. I thought you've captured her emotions very nicely here. again, some of those feel so beautifully connected to you. give me major feels <3

Hi again, Abbi! <3

I think all introverts can relate to this at least a little bit... :P Sometimes it's so hard to interact with people, and it requires a lot of energy, so it's much easier to just sit on the sideline and watch the people instead... :P it can be fun, actually :P And yes, she could leave, but she decides to push herself a little and stay a bit longer, and yes, it is kind of hopeful, I suppose! :)

Thank you so much for another lovely review! <3

Hi Chiara, back for more galazy reviews!

Okay, to go from xenophobia to yolo, is truly yolo. Also I haven't heard this in so long, it's funny to read

In trying to relate this to solitude in my head, I kind of think of all the different paths paeople take. How we all run own our own path of life and sometimes run into each other and have these brief moments but mostly just keep going.

I see this especially with the line "everyone's moving on and you're still lingering," which is definitely a place i have been in life. that's a hard line and hard advice to take, but sometimes the best thing for a person to hear.

What I thought would be a sort of funny drabble actually turned pretty deep! Well done again, Chiara, you always get me thinking with these <3

Author's Response:

Hi again! :D

Okay, I have to confess... I only learnt the term YOLO recently, and I probably don't fully get its connotations (that's what happens when you are an old-ish Italian who's not a fan of social platforms... :P), I just used it here in the literal sense, and I was probably trying to push myself a little here... :P

It's so hard, feeling like everyone is making progress with their lives and you are left behind... but it really depends mostly on us, and we need to push ourselves and catch the opportunities life has to offer... even if it's not always easy...

Glad you liked this one, too, and that it gave you something to think about! <3

Hi Chiara, back for more galazy reviewing

Ooh, this one is going to hurt. I hate the way that this is so prevalent (in the United States, from my pov, but I know it is in other places in the world, and worse) The way  you explain "a woman accelerating the pace while clutching her bag" is such a small example if the way xenophobia affects our daily lives

and, outside of real life, it's really what JKR was attempting to highlight with HP. Whether or not it was completely successful or even correct is besides the point. It's an issue that penetrates all of the media we consume as well as real life. I like how you tackle it here, being hopeful that we'll overcome it in the future. With all the literature over years, its a wonder we haven't, but i guess that's humanity

Such a thoughtful drabble!

Catherine

Author's Response:

Hi again, Catherine! <3

This was a hard one to write, especially because it's not something that directly impacts me, so it's hard to capture right, and I'm sure I only scraped the surface anyway... and yes, racism and xenophobia exist everywhere, maybe in different forms and with different levels of explicitness. And yes, sometimes it's just in the small gestures, and sometimes it's not even conscious... it's a very complicated issue, for sure... :/

I think we can overcome it in the future! Steps forward have already been made across history, and we can keep moving in the right direction, right? But yeah, we as humans love to divide people into us and them... :( but we can still hope, and do our best to overcome all separations, right?

Thank you so much for another lovely review! <3
