Reviews For Death for Thanksgiving

Another really cute and funny story from you, Barbara.  You characterize the animals so well, and there are a lot of them to characterize.  The clever turkey is so musing as he tries his various tricks to avoid being found and killed, and I wondered why the sight of a tomato would give him the stellar idea of how to satisfy the family for Christmas without killing anyone.

A good point, when the family all acknowledge that turkey isn't their favorite dish anyway, and it's so much trouble to prepare, nd they'd really rather have pizza anyway.  No point in spending even a second in wondering how  the turkey got the delivery jacket or the two boxes of Pizza.  In stories, these things just appear by magic!  :)

Author's Response:

Thanks for the review. The tomatoes were supposed to remind him about pizza sauce.  I assume the pizza didn't have any pepperoni or ham on it.

Howdy!

Not only is the premise of this fun, the execution is fantastic. As you know from my other review, I love animal POV stories and I think this is one of the funniest I've read so far. With your descriptions I can just imagine Tom travels all over the farm and it's funny to see how the other animals do try to save him with the sheep ultimately proving successful. It's very much a process of trial and error that makes you feel for Tom the Turkey and almost have a little worry for him as he moves from cover to cover. The farmer's words make it even better as you then get the addition of this poor old farmer running around like a turkey with his head cut off looking for Tom. Ayyy.

Of course I loved the ending and to be honest it's so realistic. I eat the turkey for tradition's sake and honestly consider it the true side because, well, it's turkey. Meh. Who wouldn't want pizza over a turkey if they had the choice? Pizza and the amazing sides. I think our country would grow even fatter.

Thanks for sharing!

Author's Response:

I agree. I think I'd be okay with just pizza, mashed potatoes and pie. Thanks for the review. When they suggested near executions, this popped into my mind. I've always felt a bit sorry for the turkey (although I've never seemed to think about the chickens, cows etc. no matter what time of the year.)
