Reviews For Death Blinked First

Here's the review I promised you for having accidentally invaded your Arctic Adventure thread with a post totally unrelated to that thread.  :p

I love this little story (and the one preceding it, which I also read).  These witches are tough customers, all right.  We have always been told that the four Founders were remarkably powerful witches and wizards, and that is certainly demonstrated here.  Both these ladies are kick-ass survivors, and I can see them as being entirely up to the task, eventually, of founding a powerful school.

At first Rowena seems rather cold-blooded about coming upon the public execution of another young woman; her stomach roils at the thought, but she is about to turn away, since "this wasn't her land." It's hard to think about how often that must have happened--people were tortured or executed, and the onlookers just had to stand there, unable to halt the proceedings or save the poor victim.

The explosive scene is very vivid--the fragments of wood raining down on the onlookers like hail, the horse galloping through the hysterical, disorganized crowd, the stranger on the horse dragging the erstwhile condemned woman off the platform and onto the horse, and the two of them galloping away while wood fragments continued to rain down.  Very dramatic!

I also have to smile about the little anachronisms in your story--the mention of the guillotine at a point in history when we did not believe they existed, although you assure that they did, at least for a while, and the wholly nineteenth-century American phrase "get out of Dodge," which the tenth-century villagers were not familiar with, but apparently Rowena knew it becauses she was magical.  Loved it!

Both these stories of failed executions were fun and funny.  If you ever have a few spare moments when you have absolutly nothing else to do, I'd love to read what you have to say about the gentlemen.  Can their stories possibly hope to top the stories of the ladies?

Nice job.

Happy fairy princess' birthday, Lo!

I didn't think it was possible for me to love Rowena Ravenclaw any more than I already did, but congratulations. She's so snarky and I love her, and, honestly, this is probably the best way to get out of a marriage. And you left it on such a cliff-hanger!

Tbh, I would read an entire fic about the adventures of Rowena. This was wonderful, and I love it so much. Thank you for writing this, and I hope you have a nice day!

Hey again Lo!

And now we’ve got Miss Helga Hufflepuff, hell yes! Lol though at the fact that I think it is true (or at least partially) that striking a nobleman in his goodly jewels was a severe crime back in ye olden days *joy emoji* I like that Helga, while also a witch, frequently forgets she is one and just does things the old-fashioned way (is that even the right term for this time period???) way with a solid punch or kick. I LOVE IT. This really shows her grit and illustrates why many who come from her House later on go into things like Herbology that require you to get a little dirty and use some elbow grease. And then Rowena sweeps in on her beautiful horse and whisks Helga away to safety (for the moment, at least). I AM SO HERE FOR THIS, LO!! I need more ASAP, please!!

Hey Lo!

First of all I am very happy you decided to start with Rowena Ravenclaw bc, you know, Ravenclaw here! :P I love that not only is this a failed execution setting but she’s also into women so like, your fave bicon could NEVER do what Rowena does! *clapping emoji* Her sarcasm and wit are truly scathing and the bumbling of the palace guards is quite hilarious as the Duke has to take this verbal beating even as he’s sending her to her supposed death. And of course she’s a bit dramatic -- a lot of us Ravenclaws do tend to do that in less-than-scary predicaments just because it makes us feel better. Great job to starting this, looking forward to the rest of the founders!

Hot damn, I am at a loss for words, I am obsessed, this was yet again perfect, and I want MORE! If someone put a gun to my head and asked me to choose between Helga and Rowena, my brains would end up all over someone's fucking frock I guess, because I now love them both.

Bitch you're a witch, you didn't have to resort to physical violence.  - How the hell is this such a perfect perfect line? Oh my god, damn you, it's so funny and brilliant at the same time, me much amused.

have a portrait comissioned being an irritated thought of the modern take a picture made me choke on my water as I read it, haha.

I love the fact that you describe Helga as very powerful and that Rowena notices immediately. The eye contact and the spark of mischief and of power while Helga's about to be executed is such a perfect way for them to be acquainted. It's like a scene from a goddamn movie when Helga explodes the guillotine and Rowena, knowing she needs to get the shit out of there, first helps the girl, and it's instant FIREWORKS BAM WHOA YAS! I can actually picture the whole thing as they ride away on horseback together and it's glorious!

Sharing stories, drinks and a bed is such a perfect way to end this, and I suddenly feel like I want to corner you in a dark alley and make you write me a novel-length Founders fic with this premise. However, I am willing to be satisfied if at least you someday finish the mini stories you planned for Godric and Salazar, I'm sure you have the ideas there, ready to be written, and then I will treasure this piece forever, with its perfect title and wonderful narrator.

This was such a joy oh man, I loved it!

Hey Lo, I completely forgot you wrote this and just stumbled upon it in the New Story thread and I read it and boy did I love it! It's so perfectly hilarious and awesome I don't even know where to start. Firstly, it fits the prompt so well and while the prompt itself would automatically inspire something angsty, I love that you went with humor, as that's your thing, and you're super good at it :DAnd the premise is just wonderful, Rowena having a saucy cool affair with her shithead fiance's sister, I am so here for the drama of it all, the boldness, the absolute chaos that Rowena is embracing here.

I would gladly die for this version of Rowena, because she is perfect.

Ah yes, Duke Francis the Fucking Useless - haha, I loved this, and even the fact that he was called this throughout the story

As I will remember your sister's, buried between my legs. - I can't handle the level of SAVAGE that this line brings, who cares she a cousin to a cousing to a whatever, she is a QUEEN!

Her faking screaming and all the drama made me laugh as well, and just this entire piece is so perfectly and effortlessly written that I am very happy that you wrote it and want to thank you profusely for it because it made me laugh out loud in the middle of the day, so thanks!

Eli :D
