They're just beyond cute together, though! The little tease about Rosmerta and Remus - perhaps James got a bit jealous and had to poke around? And the implied ending gave me all the feels! Love it.
This is such a heart breaking moment and so well done. You feel so much for James and would also like to slap some sense into Sirius. And I agree James would respond like this regardless of romance!
I wonder if someone other than Remus had pointed this out, would James have been so upset by it? Funny chapter, cute insight into James, lovely bit of banter, and just great all around, as per usual!
This story as a whole is just so lovely. I feel so, like... content now. Every chapter was wonderful, and it all fit together so perfectly. I love the way James takes care of Remus, and that he does it without expectation, like the previous chapter shows. James gets a lot of negatviity from some people, but I see him how you wrote him, and I just loved it. Remus, caught in between scolding James and being please when he breaks the rules, is just the most Remus thing ever. I'm just saying, if you ever feel like experimenting with this ship again, you have everything you need at the tips of your fingers already. I would follow you anywhere with these two.
Out of curiousity, have you ever thought about the transition from Remus to Lily for James and how that would play out? I would love to read it, if you ever do.

Ugh, the last line of this. Your writing is just gorgeous, too, I love how you think, and how you make Remus think in return. Also, the seven deadly sins thing is just perfection. Gah, poor Remus. He's such a good guy, he couldn't blame Lily, even out of jealousy. I have to get to the next chapter, because James' eyes are on Remus too, and I'm dying to know what happens next.
Oh my God. I came in here with the plan of just reading and reviewing the first chapter for your snow lodge wishlist, but that's not gonna happen, cause I am already invested way too hard! I have so many things on my plate right now, but physically cannot walk away, so thank God these are drabbles, or it would be over for me.
This just slaps, Mel, what can I say? It is screaming Marauders, the dynamic created in so few sentences. The way James slides into his seat, Sirius's retort, my poor boy Remus, James leadership as he keeps on Remus where the other two don't really bother, though Peter is there to back James. Ugh. I love it. Onto the next, can't be helped, can't be stopped.
Also, you're so right, Stag Night is a great name for them.

I have total heart eyes at the end here. Lily who? Can James and Remus just get married already? They are so sweet and easy together. And I know these are only select moments from their relationship, but I feel like they don’t have any of the baggage that James/Lily have, because James hasn’t been pestering Remus for years to be with him. They have just come together easily and naturally, and I love that for them.
I laughed about James faking sick so that he can be there for Remus on the morning after the full moon. That makes so much sense to me that Remus would need support afterwards even more than he does before or during. I also loved how James lets Remus have his bravado and pretend to be okay, even when they both know Remus really isn’t okay.
James will be there for Remus either way.

AHHHH I lied I’m so glad I don’t have to wonder anymore!!! Thank you for giving me ALL the Remus/James kisses.
I love how you both fulfill and subvert expectations with this prompt. James is obviously sexually affected by making out with Remus, but Remus is content to kiss and be touched. And it’s pretty awesome that James is cool with that. As he says, he’ll sort himself out later. He’s happy to share whatever physicality Remus wants to share with him, and doesn’t pressure Remus or pout about it. Idk, you’re making me like James here and it’s weird for me, lmao.
I love the descriptions in this Drabble, the languid haze of affection, the intimate and gentle way that you’re talking about James and Remus being together.
I wonder if the other Marauders have any idea that this is happening.

I’m laughing at the image of teenage Remus and James sneaking in contraband liquor under their invisibility cloak. I can see them barely fitting, hunched over, trying to carry all the bottles without getting caught.
I love how you treated greed here: that they have perhaps overestimated their ability to carry everything back, and that they aren’t even going to share it with the rest of their Housemates. It’s a moment of excess, and they’ll probably pay for it in the morning.
I’m wide-eyed at the end of the story thought. This tantalizing moment where Remus and James are so physically close to each other, and stumbling against each other, and they say each other’s names while they’re staring so intently and I just wish the story had gone on for another line or two because I’m DYING to know did they kiss :eyes;
But it’s also kind of awesome that you stop it here and make us wonder.

Okay, so I love that James is angry about this moment. Obviously, as a Snape fan, I think that he should be angry, but it’s good to see that it’s true. Even though he doesn’t really care about Snape (which is realistic, considering how we’ve seen him treat Snape, and how he will continue to treat Snape) the idea of what could have happened to Remus if Remus had actually attacked and hurt or killed Snape is terrifying. It’s really awful how Sirius doesn’t seem to get it, and even when James is explaining it and is so furious, I wonder if Sirius gets how awful it could have been. Like Remus could have been sent to Azkaban or executed.
James’s fury is palpable here. I feel like it will take a long time for him and Sirius to be okay again after this.
I love the atmospheric touch of the full moon and Remus howling in the distance to end the thing, and really bring it home for James what could have happened.

AHHHHH I LOVE THIS ONE!!! The way you have the green-eyed monster be BOTH jealousy AND Lily—it’s brilliant!!
Here we have Remus, panting after James, but he thinks so little of himself that he can’t even notice it when James is staring at BOTH Remus AND Lily. And Remus can’t even just let himself be jealous—he has to feel bad about being jealous, because Lily is so nice. So he can’t even have the satisfaction of hating her. He just has to work himself into a tizzy until he’s noticing every time she walks by.
And James is over here being super confused, apparently wanting both Remus and Lily.

Okay, I LOVE that Sirius has to work to get a Muggle record to play on a magical gramophone. Like the concept that the records wouldn’t automatically work—and in fact are destroyed in the process of Sirius trying to force them to work—it’s brilliant. I hope Sirius has some other copies. I wonder how many times he’s tried this to the same effect.
This is such a fun twist on the pride prompt—Sirius accusing James of being prideful with how big his Animagus antlers are, and James trying to put him off by saying that it’s only natural that the antlers would be there, and he’s not showing off. But then when Sirius points out that eventually the antlers will probably fall off (as they do for natural deer) James starts freaking out about the idea of being without his antlers. The image of James trying to feel his phantom antlers is hilarious.
On another note, I feel like Sirius trying to force those Muggle records to play on his magical gramophone is also sort of prideful in a way? Like they aren’t supposed to work on that contraption, but he’s going to MAKE them work.

Okay, first of all, I think I’m in love with the James/Remus ship. Like I adored your *A Patient Wolf,* and I do see James as being bisexual (whether or not he’s self-aware enough to realize it).
I can totally see James skidding into the Great Hall after Quidditch, absolutely starving, and going to town on the food. But here we see him in tune enough with Remus to stop stuffing his face long enough to bully Remus into eating the food that Remus doesn’t want, but obviously needs. I loved how James looked to Peter for confirmation that Remus hadn’t eaten anything (yay for seeing Peter in the group!). And I loved James’s insistence that he would sit there all night if that’s what it took for Remus to eat.
If James has any quality in spades, it’s stubbornness. He’s pretty much impossible to budge once he decides something is going to happen. He’ll make it happen or die trying.
So Remus does the only the he can do, and eats.

Ooh wow, a chapter of something Melanie wrote I have not yet reviewed. I am. Totally normal. I swear it. :sweat_smile:
Anyway this was such a great application of sloth! And I think sometimes mental lethargy also attributes to a physicalness as well. This felt lazy in a non negative fashion, which I think would be extremely challenging to do without playing into certain stereotypes, but of course you've done it in the most respectful manner!
There's a cozy and comforting feel with this version of sloth and I think you apply it to their circumstances very well! A total swoony, hurt/comfort slice of life. And you know I live for this!

This has me all in my warm and fuzziest of feels <3 What an apt chapter title because this scene is pure love and comfort and adoring James doting on Remus and I just <3 I love this so much. I love your interpretation of sloth (of all of these sins really). And the idea that Remus shrugged with nonchalance he doesn't posess XD Precious angel fish. I love him so much.
And James is so soft with him. And delicate. And quiet. And :heart eyes: Not to mention the moment he goes into the room and is like fake coughing (which I imagine were the most obviously fake coughs like the zoolander moment down in the mine XD ). These drabbles were so cute and so well written and had so much depth of character and I can't believe they were only drabbles!

I love this drabble. I love how you've captured a picture of lust beyond just a physical thing - it isn't just that they're tangled together - they could be at it for hours. That is what makes the sin so vivid, like greed it's not just wanting something it's wanting more and more and more. The indulgence of it all. And let these boys freaking indudlge <3
The playfulness of this is just :chefs kiss: and the phrases near the end comforting closeness, languid haze of affection - I'm sorry who gave you permission to blow my mind like this?! I'm on this ship now. We've set sail.

I'm enjoying these short scenes so much. There's just so much character in them. So much personality within the lines and pauses and moments. These two are stinking adorable XD I love that they're out getting booze XD I can picture them under the cloak with their robes and bags like turtles XD XD It's such a clear picture with how you've written this.
And can I say how easy your writing is too? No like dull or basic, but like the chemistry and friendships and relatiolnships bewteen all of these characters in all of these drabbles so far has just been like - yeah I believe that. I don't question it at all even though I'm dropped in the middle of a story. It's just simple and plain to see.

Eek! This was TENSE! Wrath was a good prompt for this sort of scene and boy does the fury come across the page! Not only from James, Sirius is pretty heated as well. It's interesting really. Why they get so stuck on Snape and picking on him. I mean, I get narratively it just gave Snape motivation for his actions in the story but what justification did the marauders have? Cause he was a pureblood? Is that why Sirius can't stand him? Cause there were plenty of others to choose from - but they just railed on him so relentlessly. I don't know, it's a JK plot hole if I'm honest.
BUT all that to say I liked that you gave that moment from the story more meaning and drive in this scene. James would definitly been pissed off about this and Sirius probably wasn't thinking beyond 'wouldn't it be funny if' cause he doesn't usually think beyond...well...just beyond....

I LOVE that you use envy and the green-eyed monster together. :chefs kiss: And to try and call Lily Evans a monster - I had to clutch my pearls for a second there - but he admitted she was actually lovely XD But the way he is jealous that she doesn't have scars all over her body D: Poor Remus. He always just wants and wants and the world just takes and takes from him.
I love the longing in this scene. The tangible tension of him watching James watch Lily and then that wonderful moment at the end where I imagine Remus turning his attention back to his book when James turns his attention over <3 I love the subtly of it. Those small missed moments. Feels so real and true to life.

Oh! I just saw that these were with the seven deadly sins! I missed that prompt earlier. Makes a lot of sense here with James obsessing over his antlers XD For Remus to say they are ostentatious XD XD XD That has me ROLLING! And the way it's just under James's skin XD This is so so perfect for how I picture James. He was raised pretty posh so you have to imagine vanity is a part of his personality. And the way he just pouts about it XD I can't get over this it's hysterical and it's everything. Thank you for this. This scene is fact as far as I see it XD

Here for more of your drabbles because I cannot get enough of your AP :D This was another great scene! I just love how you're able to make these characters so rich and real and full in less than 500 words. All that happens here is James gets food - James gives food to Remus - but the EMOTION you pack into it is TANGIBLE! The way even James gets to the table in a rush and frenzy and then slows and quiets when he sees Remus. :chefs kiss:
I am so excited to read more of these :D I think it'll be a great pairing. James is beligerent and determined and I have a Remus bias of late because he's a precious angel fish who's too pure for this world XD

until i read your author’s note i had no idea sloth actually also meant apathy and indifference so i love that you took that other meaning of the word and combined it with the physical meaning of being lazy in this drabble - while james might pretend to be lazy when it comes to charms, and remus is certainly apathetic after a night of full moon, it’s also so so obvious just how much james cares about remus and how much he understands him, knowing exactly how terrible remus must be feeling because he knows him so well, and so skiving off charms to keep remus company in the hospital wing is just really nice of him.
and obviously, a little making out on the morning after a full moon or just cuddling and stuff like that must be super comforting to remus, especially because we know how he way too often gets self-hatey about being a werewolf, so having someone there both during the full moon and after to help him recover, both mentally and physically, that must mean the world to him and i love seeing it.

i really like how you sort of also twisted lust as a sin into something much more than that and even like…not as lustful but in a respecting-your-wants-needs-and-boundaries way when it comes to remus and james. i thought that remus thinking about how he doesn’t need anything more than the intimacy kissing and just touching and being with each other was also just a nice glimpse into who he is as a person, and how he also feels safe with james, making out in their dorm but also knowing it’ll also be enough for james because they’ve done it before. he does apologise and thinks how it’s not the first time but i feel like it’s more out of habit and just remus being remus, thinking he needs to apologise for things that just aren’t things one should apologise for and so i love that james is there to reassure him and to turn what could be awkward into something funny and he’s just cool like that, able to make remus feel comfortable in what they’re doing and in his own skin and that’s just wonderful.

haha i love that james and remus snuck off to hogsmeade to get booze and that it’s enough booze for the entire gryffindor towar to get full out drunk but they are definitely not planning on sharing it with the rest of gryffindor tower. it’s amazing how greedy teenage boys can get and this is so fitting for james, with remus as the sort of reluctant accomplice.
i have a feeling that james, did, in fact, have ulterior motives for having remus go with him to hogsmeade, besides rosmerta liking remust better than sirius, and that’s the excuse for the two of them to be alone under the invisibility cloak and honestly, just the act of sneaking around together under the cloak has a feel of intimacy, so right there at the end of the drabble where remus says ‘james’ and james is all’ remus’ and he absolutely does not hesitate, it all feels like it was inevitable at that point in time and i love that!
james watching remus with an idiotic grin made me go all warm and fuzzy inside. love that greed managed to twist this around into a kinda sweet moment between the two :D

i love how angry james is in this chapter! i mean i am absolutely weak for hurt and impulsive sirius who did the awful thing but also i love that james is more worried about remus and the possible consequences of sirius’s actions on their friend rather than on what could have happened to snape.
the way that sirius looks even fearful of james tells us so so much about how much exactly james is angry because we know sirius knows him, knows his moods probably better than anyone and so if sirius as one of his best friends is afraid of james i don’t even have to wonder whether james would’ve been capable of doing something more than just yelling had it been anyone else except one of his best friends and i feel like that’s also really in character for him.
the undercurrent of romantic feelings for remus is also just a nice bonus to this reaction, and the way james finally lets those tears he had been holding back fall when he’s done yelling and he’s alone, without anyone there to see him kinda breaks my heart a little because i would’ve wanted him to share that vulnerability with his friends but on the other hand at this particular moment in time it makes a lot of sense that he wouldn’t, especially with either sirius or remus.
