Hi there!
This was such a different fic, but amazing all the same. It's strange hearing them talk about Sirius fighting against the greater good, and that they're on the right side of things, but I suppose that is what they believe. I love their relationship though, I was wondering if there was something more going on, something more than just allies when they were talking about Regulus getting married but then it was confirmed at the end. It didn't feel like a passionate romance though, more like one born out of desperation or convenience. Almost void of feelings, but i think you did a great job of portraying what Regulus was thinking and going through.
A really interesting fic!

Hey, Madi, hello! I'm here for our swap! :D
Aww, look at those two cuties! <3 If I wasn't irritated by them being Death Eaters (He chose his path, wrongly, and you chose yours, rightly. And Knowing he's actively fighting against the greater good... have you two even considered the possibility that you might be the ones in the wrong??? Can't you see the terror and destruction Voldemort is causing??? Don't you think that maybe judging people based on their blood is wrong???) I would find them so sweet! <3
I really enjoyed what you did with them. I'm not an expert of Regulus/Barty either, but I liked the way you wrote them together, the easiness and domesticity, opposed to the heavy atmosphere of the war, the tension that you described at the beginning as Regulus walked alone, secretly clutching his wand, ready for fight if the need aroused. It's sad that they have to live like this, but it's nice to see that they can find comfort and safety in each other! It's really sweet! <3
I bet Walburga wouldn't take it kindly if she knew her prized child is gay... would she? And of course he needs to get married as soon as possible, because what terrible scandal would it be otherwise? Urgh, pureblood society... :/
And then there is Barty with his annoyance at his father and boring Ministry work already evident. I love that you put so much focus on their family histories, since it's obvious that they are so deeply defining for the both of them!
I wish things aren't destined to go the way they'll go and that these two could just live a quiet and happy life together... :(
Lovely work on this! Thank you for the swap! <3

Oh man the descriptions in this fic are unreal. Just those first 3 paragraphs had me hooked in. I love how you set up this almost tense scene, but the moment they get into the flat that all just melts away and it's this lovely moment of two men being together.
Also, I kind of liked that you wrote this from the other side of the coin as it were. So often, even in fics about the bad guys, their views are then described as horrific or they say something controversial (wizards in their rightful place in soceity, etc) and it'll spark an argument. instead you've gone in for it as if it's a normal conversation between these two people we already know have these horrible views (well, I guess Regulus is debateable, at least towards the end), and it's a real shocker, but so well done. It almost slips by as if it is a totally normal conversation to have. It absolutely makes sense to have two people with the same rank views have a chill conversation like this, but it's a moment that stuck out to me so much. Whew.
I feel kind of sad for them, and I like how there's hints of the ongoing fighting and conflicts around them in this (holding of the wands, ambigious mentioning of the shit they've got themselves into) and they're just trying to share this normal evening, talking about work, having dinner, going to bed. So understated, but so, so good.
hey there!! I'm here to leave a review as part of the challenge on the forums right now and I'm really excited to get into it because I've never actually read a fic that had both Regulus and Barty as the main players, let alone as a ship!!
So from the start I've got to say that the way you evoked a sense of place as well as person, who the character was, what kind of person he was, was so clear in my mind as I was reading. There was something truly aristocratic in your descriptions of Regulus, specifically how he appeared to be 'aimless' when in reality he had a destination or goal in mind (which sounds very appropriate imo for Regulus the bit of a spoiled pureblood snot hehehe). As well as the way he reached for his wand when he wasn't sure who would be waiting for him I was reading it like yes and I was so feeling the tension that was happening there!
I also really loved the casual way we were introduced to Barty, as well as the ease with which he and Regulus interact with one another. I'm not sure if you were playing off the "social norms" for them, i.e. that their relationship would be illegal/looked down upon by society, but I could sense that (or maybe I was imagining it based on preconceived notions haha) as I was reading and it felt like they breathed a sigh of relief when they made it in the door and were finally able to kiss. I adored the little 'call out' from Barty re: Regulus going to get the pastries at the shop like that's so something I would do too, and it was kind of cute, sweet domestic moment with the reminder that like, they're working for the Death Eaters (I assume) and they're always on guard and watching.
Most of all, I think I really just loved how normal it was? I mean we get to see 'normal' snapshots of the lives of the heroes of these stories and who we think the 'good guys' are but we do not so often get to see the 'normal' moments for the bad guys, and I think it's really cool to see that when people in real life have so much to them and no one is ever 100% bad or good, we're all capable of having these small moments. I love how they discussed Regulus' family and how he was obviously torn up about his brother which, again, it humanized him but it also reminded the reader that like, everyone is the hero of their own story. When they talked about doing what they were doing for the "greater good" and what not, it just felt so reminiscent to conversations people in the Order would have, and Sirius himself tbh.
Finally, I thought it was a really sweet end to a very sweet fic. There was a lot of care and love throughout, but I think I really felt it the most at the end when it was just the end of another day for the two of them, but it was an end that despite their frustration and the pressure of what they were doing, etc, they had so much tenderness for one another in it with their subtle movements around one another.
I had so much fun reading, and I hope to read more from you!<3 Julie
