stabby fluff breaktime.

“we don’t want the lights to find us when we’re dark and lost in the shadows of the underworld.”

well this is just a damn mood, isn’t it.

omg dark murderie fluff. or like as close to fluff as i feel you’re going to get. i love these two, in fact i love this pairing in general but it’s overlooked so much for bella with voldy, but here you just ignite them. it’s like two demons, twisting together as they burn, they love each other and understand each other because their own madness is just reflected back at them. it’s hot and dark and just dripping with sins. animalistic almost, which is just utterly perfect. i love the idea of these two twisted lovers just utterly, madly being obsessed with each other no matter what twisted things they’re doing. they’re dynamic is brilliant. and “you shouldn’t fucking start what you can’t finish” followed by that “bella...” is just so… honestly delicious is the best word i can think of to describe it lol. the fact that i love these two so much should be a bit worrying but you’ve written them so well, they’re just like happily, murderly in love, and in lust. i could read a whole series of them going on there psychotic wee adventures tbh.

Hi Kris! Please ignore how long it’s been since you requested this review, I apologize for the wait!

You say you’re incapable of writing fluff and called this “dark fluff” in your request, and I have to say that moniker is pretty accurate. Or perhaps it’s “dark smut” because this is smut but, you know, semantics and all that. The first half of the fic is really well done in describing how Rodolphus and Bellatrix first really come together (hehe, pun) and build that devilish fire they both have in supporting the Dark Lord and build it even bigger than their individual fires were to begin with. When they went to the muggle club I was initially confused what they were going to do, but as soon as the line about them “hunting” came across my screen, I immediately got it and was actually very intrigued to see how you were going to make them find their victims for the night. The Demondust drug is a neat invention too -- wizards obviously have their own drugs, so it makes sense they would imbibe that one for a night like this. Overall it’s a darkly good fic, and shows the chaotic, evil, darkness that Bellatrix and Rodolphus share in their relationship. Good job with this!

Author's Response:

yeahhh dark fluff dark smut it's all the same ??

but also hey they love each other and are soulmates so i think that can count as fluff in the world where i write fluff because the bar for me is very low.

lolol bellatrix and rodolphus are only ever going to go to a muggle club for nefarious purposes, not for anything good. it's their kink, i guess, or they get a high off it because no one knows what they're doing - it's not like the rest of the death eaters would approve of their methods, but it's their little secret heheh :D and i loved how you described the insane fire that comes from both of them as being the sum of their individual ones, it's really fitting

thanks for the review!

I love this. The characters and the plot is awesome. I also love the flow.

Author's Response:

aw thank you so much! i was worried for a hot second that because of who bellatrix and rodolphus are, they'd be uhh waaaay too much for most people so hearing that you think they're awesome means a lot!

hey kris, here for rvg! <3

godddd this is so fucked up and i love it.

i think that for me, the thing is that i'm not interested in seeing truly just terrible characters in a sympathetic light, especially not rn... and this is so very decidedly not that. you really captured bellatrix (and rodolphus) as being twisted and terrifying and actively predatory, and it's just so well done. the extent to which violence and murder turn them on is so disturbing and fits perfectly with what we know about them - just cornering random muggles and killing them for fun is 10/10 something that i can see them doing.

amazing job.

Author's Response:

lmao yeahhhhh i totally agree that seeing like really evil characters who we know are evil and have zero redeeming qualities in a sympathetic light just doesn't cut it for me. go ahead, show me their terribleness but don't try and make me like them! or try to minimise what they've done or what they're doing, that's just ughhh *roll eyes*

predatory is a very nice description of the two of them, i dig it :D

(not sure what it says about me that i captured the predatoriness and violence and all that perfectly but let's not dwell on that oops)

thank youuuu *_*

So I read this a few days ago and I've been sitting on what I wanted to say for that time because there are so many words I could use to describe this and the experience of reading it, which I should preface by saying I'm not really into horror and I'm not  really into sticky consent situations but I saw a graphic or something for this on the forums and I was SO intrigued I was like "right gotta check it out" and I'm so glad I did because the intricacy of the writing was so fresh.

I love stories that show redeemable qualities to villains, but I think I love stories that are unapologetically like "yeah these people are terrible people and shouldn't be lauded but they're still people and have human qualities" even more and I feel this is more where this fits in. This love story is so twisted but it's still at its core a love (maybe obsession lol) story and we get to see the build up of that from start to finish in a really satisfying way.

Particularly as I'm writing this I keep glancing up at the last few lines and " He leans down and kisses it, licking the blood and my heart stops for a moment when I realise there is no one else I would do this with." is something I find SO striking???? because it's in one moment really romantic and sweet almost, but it's juxtaposed with this really gorey imagery as well and it all fits with who Bella and Rudolph's characters are (imo).

all in all, really wonderful, really scary, disturbing and romantic in the best ways, and something I really liked <3

Hey Kris! :)

Honestly, you write dark, dangerous, messed up kinda characters with messy lives so so well, yk? Like, they're always so fascinating and so real and so honest when you write them - and Bella, with how zealous she is in canon and how utterly deadly and manic, is just so so perfect for you to write, and it really shows in this.

I love the way in this they're so vivid - there's a tendency for dark fics to be, well, dark, but this is a dark fic in technicolour: it's vivid and it's vibrant and it's electric, really, with the way you write it, all the details and the pacing and the way it feels like it almost has a pulse, the story, a real beat to it that makes me think of nightclubs and fast dance music and the kinda dark lighting with the flashing colours overhead and thrown across faces - and it's so unique, yk, because I've never seen anyone write Death Eaters as so... muggle? in a way, so normal, going to clubs - but so sinister in that normality, the way they go to clubs and find people to seduce and kiss and kill together.

They're terrible, terrible people, Bella and Rodolphus, but honestly, I love that about them? Especially in this: they're happy and excited and that emotion thrums throughout this from start to finish and it puts a cool, heady sort of spin on it, with the blood and the torture later on. And I love that they're so wild and unapologetic and there's a sense of freedom in it - they do exactly what they want when they want, and they match each other so well - which I is so so good. The idea at the end, too, that they're in love - or they are/were at some point in love - and that it's such an unconventional, non-traditional relationship, it fits them both so perfectly and it gives a new side to their relationship, which is so often portrayed as Bella betraying Rodolphus, who either doesn't care or is kicked off to one side like a lost puppy :P There's almost something... not lovely or sweet, but deeply, deeply passionate about the way they love each other, and it's nice, in its way, to think of Death Eaters in love? :P

As always, your writing is incredible. I lovelovelove the details in this - the way you describe everything is so good and so vivid and ugh it's so addictive, yk? Like, this is a story which is so short but so compact and the characters you show are so complex and real and I love that about it. And some of the lines are brilliant, heavy and ominous and dark: like, "we've done this before" - it feels like a promise and a threat and a casual comment all in one. And all the mentions of intoxication, the way they watch each other, how they're always described as wild and fiendish and fiery.

Also the 'two dark sides of the same moon' is just poetry. Like, it really really is <3

Damn.

This was so dark and twisted. It makes so much sense to connect darkness and dark magic to sexuality and depravity that was so particular in Bellatrix's and Rodulphus's case. This story was great because it wasn't one of those 'poor tortured soul' Bellatrix is trapped by Rodulphus, but they were made for each other, found in each other a demonic soul mate, and boy it was scary.

I liked the demondust and its role as some kind of terrifying wizard drug. The activities they engaged in to get off were haunting, but after reading it it makes me totally convinced this is something they would have been doing. We know from canon that torturing the Longbottoms was almost a joy for them.

A really well-written take on the true inner soul darkness expressed through sex and desire gone all wrong. It was a thrilling read!

Hi Kris! I'm (finally) here for your request review. I'm sorry that it took so long; life has been super insanely busy lately. But I am here now and excited to read. I have to admit that this is normally not the kind of story that I would seek out, but it's definitely good to read things like that that you wouldn't normally consider every once in a while. So let's get into it!

First off I have to say that I've always loved your descriptions. I think that they're very well done and that your meaning really comes through. The way that you have written this story in particular is very striking.

The relationship between Bellatrix and Rodolphous is definitely hard to read at times throughout the story. But they are very intriguing in this work. I honestly never really read them as a true pairing because their marriage seemed way more political than romantic, so this is an interesting take!

Another great story. Thanks for requesting :)

Hi Kris!!! Here for our review swap!

Alright, just fricking going for it in the first paragraph. “We are all seven of the deadly sins together” - WOW! Dynamic, interesting, kinda hot? Alright and then the third paragraph comes around and… yeah, hot.

Alright, yeah Bellatrix feels like a masochist, enjoying the pain from the Dark Mark a little too much. It’s strange, because I know they’re bad, but I kinda like this couple? The way you write them feels like a romanticized Bonnie and Clyde where I know they’re murderers, but I’m kind here for them.

And your IMAGERY! Goddamn! Demons, storms, deadly sins? 10/10.

Oh, definitely masochists. The both of them. And sadists. Is there a word for that?

Yeah, I gotta say it again - your imagery is perfection. The Demondust scene is hot, dangerous, and completely immersive. I could not think of anything else while reading it. I just kinda stared at my laptop for a few seconds after it too.

Okay, I know there are couples who go out to find a third, I’m getting the distinct feeling that these two aren’t looking for a third participant. My instinct is that there’s gonna be a lot of blood shed. I’m like not here for that in a regular sense, because that’s creepy, but I’m also weirdly here for it right now? Like I desperately want to know what happens?!?!

Oh are they each going for a different person? Interesting! Def not what I had in mind, but still continues to peak my curiosity and I can’t stop reading! How do you do this, I don’t like dark stuff mostly and was drawn to this because I wanted to dip a toe and now I’ve jumped all in!

Ah, yup here’s where it gets ugly. The killing part. I knew it! (although I don’t think it’s that difficult to surmise what they’re going to do - Bellatrix may have layers but like three of them are psychopath)

Oh dang! I kinda like this approach - Bella having the urge but never following through and Rodolphus is the one to really push her into the insanity we know (and hate/love?). I’ve always thought that it was the other way around, but I really like this take!

Okay the smut was a lot. I’m definitely not into that kind of stuff, but you know, hopefully not many people are into killing someone and then having sex over their bodies. While I am not the type of person to do that in an alley, I did appreciate the scene. It felt very… natural? I guess the insanity of it all felt very in character, so I was never at a point where i was like “oh this is too much,” because it always felt exactly the right amount of insanity - limitless really.

I think the incorporation of the lyrics was amazing and the fact that it’s Rodolphus that’s the devil is great. Like I said, I really like this take on the two of them.

Thank you so much for writing this, it was a dark romance that made me a little scared yet it was hot the whole way through. It was a great read and I’m so happy we did this swap!

Lo <3

Hi Kris!

I always get super excited to read your stories but I'm especially excited for this one. The tags sound amazing (and I'm totally in the mood for something Slytherin-y these days) but the fact that you described this as 'dark fluff' makes me smile, it's just so you. I'm absolutely here for it, and excited to see what you came up with!

You've actually left me speechless. I'm completely blown away by the intensity and heat and darkness of this story. Oh my god. I loved it so much. I never seem to read stories where Bellatrix and Rodolphus actually...like each other? And sometimes it irks me because I absolutely believe they did, that their marriage was more than just convenience. But you took what I wanted and knocked it out of the park! Theirs is a relationship of passion and violence and it fits so well, I love that these two deranged people have met their match in each other.

And I love that we're seeing more smut on the archives (seriously, is that tag new?) but this was unlike anything I've ever read, and I loved it for all its grittiness because it was perfect for Bellatrix and Rodolphus, and if you wrote more of them in the future, I would not be complaining. They are wild and feral and, well, kind of hot.

This idea of them going to Muggle clubs to find new victims to torture is a really dark but interesting one. They have this kind of Bonnie and Clyde idea--two lovers who kill people. These were absolutely the people who tortured the Longbottoms. This story had vampire vibes and I loved the atmosphere of it.

I don't know what else to say other than just...I loved it. Your writing is on fire, your stories just get better and darker and they're some of my favourites on the archives. Absolutely stunning work on this, Kris!

hey kris! here for our swap, and truthfully, the only phrase that i can think of right now is hot damn.

i'll admit that i was a little skeptical at first, but you really managed to suck me into this world of bellatrix and rodolphus. the writing and the imagery in this fic is outstanding and almost rhythmical. i'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but it all just flows so well and i can picture everything perfectly in my mind.

everything just fits so perfectly. bellatrix getting high and off on getting her dark mark, on the power she gets from torturing muggles. and rodolphus is right there with her, encouraging and motivating her along the way. i found it really interesting that the moment for this fic was really bella's first kill; it makes so much sense that it would happen this way, that she hesitates only slightly at first before letting the curse fly.

they truly are a power couple; breaking off individually to find their own prey, the blonde girl and the leader from the band, but still somehow focused on each other and what they're doing to their victims. and their sex was hot and rough but also done so well that you could tell they were really feeling it. they've done this before but it's just as exciting and as intoxicating as times they've done in the past.

i was a little surprised at the confession of feelings at first, but like everything else in this fic, it really just fit

i'm still in awe with the rhythmic aspect of your writing. it all just flowed so, so well in my mind and i was really sucked in until the very end. 'dark fluff' is really the perfect phrase for this because that's exactly what it is.

excellent job with this, and thanks for the swap!! ♥

Author's Response:

ahhh yeah i don't remember how i got to the point when i decided it'll be bella's first kill in this but i really dig the idea that rodolphus was right there with her and kinda made her do it -- not literally, because she definitely would've done it anyway, but i liked writing them in a way that their terrible-ness is so intertwined and you don't know who's worse and like,,,they deserve each other lmao. and they make each other even worse whichs tracks imo

they're soulmates, i had to have some i love yous thrown in there it was just that they were made for each other even though they're so evil and ,,,it had to happen :D

thanks for the nice review and for the swap!!

this is somehow both the darkest and the fluffiest thing on your ap and i don’t know how you managed to pull that off but you did :P

anyways, hi, here for our swap!

this little description section at the start is just…. chef’s kiss. like, i feel like i regularly gush about your description, but seriously, this is phenomenal. i’m obsessed with it.

(am i also now singing cruel summer to myself because the grinning like a devil line made me start singing along?? yes.)

(also i can definitely see the miss americana inspiration in here, even if it is a very dark and twisty version of it)

it absolutely makes sense that bellatrix would get off on getting her dark mark and causing death and destruction - you’ve absolutely tapped into this wild and terrifying character who genuinely gets life out of these horrible things. it’s disturbing in the best and most complimentary way. :P

also going to a muggle club with the intent of luring and killing muggles seems exactly like the kind of fun adorable date idea that these two would be all over, lol. and of course bella chooses to make out with the lead singer with the pure knowledge that rodolphus is watching. once again, totally tracks with their level of twisted.

i also really like that rodolphus is like, actually a significant force in this power couple?? i feel like he’s usually written off as this not-super-significant character or that bellatrix just kind of shoves him around, but he’s definitely a strong character in his own right in this - which i think is what bellatrix needs. she wouldn’t be fulfilled with anything else. the fact that she quite literally gets turned on from her first real kill is….. well, i honestly don’t think i’d expect anything less from her, tbh.

the ending is hot, which, of course i’ve come to expect from all your fics. :P (i love that all of the above has become your Brand™ - nightclubs, drugs, violence, and sex. i always know i’m gonna run into most if not all of those in any given fic of yours, haha.)

this definitely lives up to the moniker of ‘dark fluff’ - and it was an excellent read.

-taylor

Author's Response:

omg i legit forgot i used miss americana and the heartbreak prince for this and now i remembered it all over again and it fits nicely in a psychopathic way so i guess i'm just on a roll with taking tswift songs and turning them into something that they were probably never meant to be turned into hahahah

and ffs rodolphus being just this useless person who does nothing always irks me in fics and i just really wanted someone who could match bellatrix in her wickedness because she's so evil and terrible but still badass in her evil-ness so i can't imagine her going for someone weak, like...at all.

ahaha they're so twisted and dark and just ,,,, i loved writing them that way without any inhibitions because it's how i headcanon them and i'd have liked to see that in fics before but i didn't so this monstrosity happened oops :D

i'm glad you liked it!!

Hey there!

I'm here for our review swap!

Wow. That opening scene was super intense. I tend to not read story descriptions because I like the surprise, so I didn't immediately realize who the two characters were. Finding it out in the second section made it all the more intriguing and in a macabre sort of way, hotter.

I love the way you incorporated them getting their dark marks inked. That really brought the story to life and their lusty reactions to it seemed super in character with what we know of Bella in canon.

I have to admit I'm potentially a little skeptical about them going to a muggle club and am really curious to see what they do there. I thought your description of their transformation in the alleyway and the smell descriptors you used really made the alley come to life. Ahh. But then it starts to make more sense to me. This definitely seems in line with what we know of Bella. She's sadistic and she gets off on making people hurt.

Loved the idea of demondust. It really adds to the manic feeling of everything.

Oooh. This is an interesting idea to have Rodolphus be the one who gets Bellatrix to commit murder for the first time. I have to admit, that thought never would've occurred to me. I usually see him portrayed as weaker, kind of following in her shadows, but I actually really like this version. She is a strong, fierce, feral woman, so it's fitting that she'd need someone equally as fierce and feral to match her. Maybe even more so to force her to submit.

Wow. That final scene is absolutely brutal and yet, oddly hopeful. Maybe even fluffy in a deranged sort of way. I mean if Bellatrix can find her soulmate in Rodolphus, surely there's hope out there for the rest of us, right?

This was an absolute adventure of a story. Sexy, uncomfortable, macabre, gritty. It was hot, but in a way that made me feel a bit deviant for thinking so...but somehow, I think that's sort of the point. The excellent description and imagery throughout really enhanced it too.

Good work!

~Kaitlin

Author's Response:

hii kaitlin!!

It was hot, but in a way that made me feel a bit deviant for thinking so

ahah i absolutely love that this summarises like this entire fic and my own feelings on actually writing it lmao.

and this: fluffy in a deranged sort of way

is just peak bellatrix&rodolphus i think i should put those two sentences in my summary because you did such a great job of doing it :P but honestly, i totally get what you're feeling, it's a weird fic with hot parts in it and love-y parts in it and it's just psychopaths-in-love which,,, let's be real, is very much wtf ahaha but i'm so glad you liked it!!

thanks for swapping :D
