Reviews For Blood Ties and Betrayal

I had to jump to this chapter because I just love how the entire 7th year student body stood up to Fudge. He is such an arrogant imbecile (as clearly shown in the books) and you’ve brought his ridiculousness (and the idiocracy of the Wizengot) up to the next level. Of course, Cassie doesn’t want to make waves and is willing to back down. It was wonderful to see the entire year stand up to the injustice, particularly Harrison and Fiona who are not (at least partially) redeemed in my opinion. I’m glad to see that they didn’t let petty school grudges get in the way of when justice is truly important. I wonder if this belief the other kids have in her will play a part later when her father reemerges?

Author's Response:

I agree that Harrison and Fiona are not redeemed based on their actions in this chapter. But I think it goes along with how Rowling has written most of the canon characters, in the sense that none of them are wholly good or bad (except for Voldemort). Hopefully, Cassie's old classmates will remember what she was really like while attending Hogwarts and not let the hysteria surrounding her family influence their thoughts of her when he comes back.

The sorting was interesting in that I never thought about Slytherin House’s thoughts on having Harry Potter in their house and what their parents might have cautioned about him. If he had been sorted there, I imagine he’d be treated similar to Cassie but probably worse.

Okay, Harrison is a jerk and I hope he get his comeuppance later--threatening to tattle to Professor Snape--how lame can you get and then to get caught-I’m laughing with Cassie.

The interactions between Severus and Cassie surprised me a bit. I was surprised that she was so comfortable with him. He’s obviously trying to draw a line for their friendship which she just downright ignores and purposely dances over. Still, it’s amusing to find something who is amusing by Severus’s ranting instead of cowering to it. I look forward to more interactions between them.

Author's Response:

I also thought it would be amusing for Severus to have to put up with someone who saw through his facade and was used to his behavior. Ignoring the line he has attempted to draw and purposely dancing over it - that's a fabulous way to put it!

When I first looked at this story, I assumed Cassie would be similar to Delphini, a misconception that you quickly squashed with her love for the Weasley clan and her strained relationship with Uncle Lucius. I’m sure Lucius is appalled at how she is turning out and hopes his sister law never tries to blame him. Cassie seems to have a rather older sister/annoying younger brother relationship with Draco. I wonder if she will be able to influence him or if she will just write him off as a lost cause.

In this Platform 9 ¾ scene, you’ve done a great job establishing Cassie’s relationship, whether loved or strained, with a variety of characters and a hint to her relationship with Severus SNape. The fact a) she melted his silver cauldron and b) he made her lug the replacement to Hogwarts is so Snape but then the fact she wasn’t annoyed but rather found the humor in it. . . . yes, I think they’ll get along quite well.

And meeting Harry Potter (and Neville), yes that has got to be the apex of uncomfortable. She has such lovely relatives to be associated with.

Great introduction, full of an ensemble of characters with interesting relationships. I look forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response:

Thank you for the review! In this chapter I did try to make it clear what kind of relationships Cassie has with canon characters. If readers are looking for a Delphini-like character, I wanted them to realize early in that Cassie is nothing like that. I know when I look for fics I usually have a specific type in mind!

Hi there! I wanted to come by and check out your novel :D

This is a very dramatic beginning to what promises to be a very dramatic story--the daughter of Bellatrix and Lord Voldemort is going to have anything but an easy road. I thought you handled Bella's birth scene well, from her domination of the birth room, to her devotion to Voldemort, to her simpering at his slightest bit of praise--and I thought it was particularly interesting that, when Bella tried to stand too early after giving birth, Voldemort chided her--does he care about her a tiny bit? Or at least care about her ability to continue to serve him?

I'm glad that young Cassie has a few people in her corner; especially since many people in her corner want to torture her by making her watch violent and terrible acts. Eek!

And I'm wondering if there's possibly going to be a bit of an Emma Woodhouse/Mr Knightley vibe between Cassie and Severus....

Nice work on this first chapter!

Yours,

Noelle

Author's Response:

Hi Noelle!
I am very excited that you took the time to read this and write a review! :) This story has been my baby lately, I'm actually sitting down to map out the next chunk right now.
I thought it was important to establish that for Voldie, procreating with Bella was very much a sort of business relationship, while tragically on her end, she very much longs for him to actually desire her. Of course, we all know that he's incapable of genuine affection. Unfortunately for their daughter, their dysfunction means that she's destined to receive no real love from either parent.

If you decide to keep reading, I hope that you enjoy. :)
