Hey!

I'm here for the fairyland event again!

I loved getting a little look into Rose's family life a bit. I think it explains some of Rose's traits like it must be difficult to watch a parent be like that so they just want to tear you down. I kinda like this head canon for Hermione though. I think I could see it happening. Hermione's childhood wasn't exactly a childhood.

I really like Hugo's character though. He seems a good chap, I liked their dialogue together, I think they have a nice bond as siblings. They bounce off each other nicely and have a little banter. It's cool that he is going to be a healer too. I guess he probably wants to help people like Rose does. Just in different ways. Nosey Rosie, it couldn't be a more perfect nickname tbh. I love it. haha . I'm wondering if this chapter was about getting Nora on board with the investigation that means she might be coming in handy?? will nora crack something important?? I guess I'll have to keep reading if I wanna find out!

Abbi xx

All the family is important in this one! I am glad you enjoyed my take on Hugo, and tolerated my take on Hermione lol. Nora is so fun to write :)

Rose knows how to get it done! Proud of her. (Okay, but one thing I did not like is when she used Abel's death as an excuse for being mean to Scorpius. That was a bit manipulative of her, but at least she knows it. Nobody's perfect and I think this makes her seem more human.)

That was tense! When she asked Anna to see the letter and Anna immediately said she needed to speak to an attorney, I just knew Rose was onto something. That got heated really quickly. Anna is very loyal to her family. I'm glad she ultimately showed Rose the letter, though, because I agree that it proves Adam didn't kill his brother. I wonder what Adam was going to say to Anna about their father. And why he wanted to do it in secret...

OMG Anna's comment about how Abel is playing puppet-master even from the grave was SO chilling. Eep! This is so intriguing and creepy in the best way!

xx Gina

Author's Response:

I KNOW, Rose can be the worst, just really cold. Anna knows how to shoot for an attorney, something she's probably done before lol :)

hmm, yeah, i definitely agree with rose that, at least from what we know so far about the geronimo family, it's highly unlikely that adam, who was disowned, would do anything for his mother and that she would know where he is, but i think with this second part it's possible i guess, but the fact that she might know where her son is doesn't mean much when it comes to him doing anything for her. rose suspecting scorpius has me wondering about what exactly happened when mr. geronimo died, but also i don't see how scorpius would benefit from either of the men's deaths. (also fucking hell, transfiguration of code has my mind blown that's so cool!)

I'm glad you got down to deciphering your own way through this messy web of lies and deceit! That's my favorite part of mysteries :)

GET IT, LAWYER SCORPIUS. Ngl, he's hot when he takes charge like that. The way he doesn't let that other lawyer guy talk, just spells things out, like THIS IS HOW IT IS, BITCHES. Yes.

Okay, why does this woman hate Rose so much? Is it because of her past relationship with Abel? What happened?

OH, I almost forgot, I loved that bit about Scorpius and why he is hanging around Rose so much now, how he feels alone and like no one can understand him now. My heart kind of broke there. It's interesting that Rose is trying to separate herself from her family. Maybe she just doesn't like being in the limelight? Or she wants to prove she has worth in her own right, not just because of her parents? She seems to have inherited a lot of their traits, though, like crying when she's angry and blushing. So she can't fully escape. ;)

Okay, WHAT? Rose cared about Abel's dad, too? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Am I reading too much into this? (I feel like the point of a whodunnit mystery is to literally read too much into everything, so I am going to continue to do this even if it leads me nowhere.)

Author's Response:

I LOVE IT WHEN SAYS I AM A LAWYER, HEAR ME ROAR. Oop, Elizabeth hates everyone, but especially meddling Granger-Weasley's ;) Keep reading into things, because it'll loop back, I'm telling you :)

okay i admit i laughed a little at 'ron's favourite daughter' comment because she's his only daughter and the whole situation is a little awkward and they're definitely not a perfect family so this comment kinda,,,it's both funny and sounds a little off, like ron is ignoring or isn't aware of all the tension that exists. and hermione obviously knows a lot more about everyhitng that's happening around abel's death than she's letting on and she has no intention of telling rose, and now i'm very very curious about why that is and what's the big mystery that even hermione seems vaguely involved in.

(for foxy glory!)

Author's Response:

Yes, that was a little bit of Rose's internal humor for you, rather dry, I do admit. Yes, why is Hermione getting involved...do tell, Catherine...

i definitely agree with rose, muggle phones are so much more convenient than owls, but on the other hand owls are hella fucking cute and adorable and i kinda love them :P lol anna might not generally be interested in much of anything besides herself, but she really didn't appreciate the fact that rose and scorpius tried to use her with a cover story to search for whatever they were searching in abel's office. the thing with the pendulum was hella cool, and now i'm wondering what it is that anna knows, and how come she knows that that particular key which she didn't even know was there hidden opens anything?

(for foxy glory!)

Author's Response:

Owls are breathtaking and astonishing. Phones are good for communication. :) I loved the pendulum scene--it just keeps swinging, doesn't it?

i haven't commented on hermione previously because,,,idk i'm mostly surprised at her characterisation (but not in a bad way!) but difficult mother-daughter relationships hit me hard oops. anyhow, i really love what you've done with her character, i can definitely see how she could end up the way she did, addicted to pills, the stress of being the minister and everything falling on her shoulders getting to her, and having very high expectations of her children, making those relationships strained, it definitely checks out. i mean, i think she loves her children, or at least she thinks she does, but her behaviour is..idk, it's obviously not what her kids need, and thinking you're doing good and thinking you know best doesn't actually make it true. that exchange with xavier outside of diagon alley holding cells was very ominous and has me all :eyes: at this mysterious *they* who want to close this case asap and pin it all on rose <.<

Author's Response:

Ack, I'm sorry for doing this to you and Rose and Hermione. And yes, Xavier does care for Rose in a way, and this is the easiest (and least dangerous) way he can show it

YES THE BANTER

Okay, this is sooooo good. I'm obsessed with the fact that Rose uses Muggle technology in her investigations because of her grandpa. That is the cutest thing, but also SO smart because she's absolutely right that wizards tend to ignore/underestimate Muggles. And apparently it works! She's caught something suspicious... someone delivering a letter, someone who must have been familiar enough with Abel to know how to get past his enchantments on the door. Did Anna hide the letter? I don't even know who to be most suspicious of here. I was suspicious of Adam, but I feel like the most obvious suspect is never the murderer. Right? RIGHT?!

OMG Mrs. G trying to overturn the will. HUGE EYE ROLL. Just because you didn't get what you wanted doesn't mean you can come at Scorpius like that, and disregard your son's final wishes. He may have been afraid but he wasn't crazy. (Although I'm still wondering if his brother somehow blackmailed him...). This family is wild, there seems to be so many secrets hiding beneath the surface. I can't wait to see what Rose and Scorpius uncover!

xx Gina

Author's Response:

Yes, I love Rose's relationship with her father's side of her family (oop, the only one she knows that isn't problematic as hell). There are so many secrets, I know it's a lot to take in! Good luck :))

the flashback at the start of the chapter was quite something, mostly because i got the feeling that scorpius actually legit had (has?) feelings for rose, even if the entire thing with him, fucking him, started out as vengeance to abel for her (not sure if it just started out that way and then turned into something else, though rose is rose and she doesn't strike me as someone who would allow herself to get too attached to someone like scorpius). and she's still suspicious of him, as expected, though him taking some pretty incriminating evidence from her office/from nora might make him less suspicious. more suspicious? i don't know, everything is twisty.

(for foxy glory!)

Author's Response:

Ohhh yeah, poor Scorpius is trying to find something to hang on to. And yes, Rose is kind of suspicious of everyone at this point ;)

i don't know why i got the impression that mr. geronimo died while the gang (abel, rose and scorpius) were still at hogwarts, so scorpius acting as the lawyer who changed mr. geronimo's will before he died surprised me a little (unless scorpius is older than rose and abel?), but yeah, rose still being suspicious of him (even more so now that she knew about the two, not one, will changes that he did for the geronimos) kinda makes sense considering all that. but, ah, her use of muggle technology caught up with her in this chapter, hopefully, she'll manage to talk her way out of this whole thing. or not, considering how xavier reacted to all of it, oops.

Author's Response:

Thank you for pointing this out! We chatted, but for anyone else confused, this has been edited :) And yes Xavier, he tries to be straightforward with Rose, just the way she likes it.

Okay, you do a fantastic job of handling a lot of characters in a single scene. I never felt lost as the characters were all reminiscing about Hogwarts. Each of your characters has a unique personality and that made it easier to keep track of everyone. I thought it was interesting that Rose was a bit of an outsider in the group, and I'm not sure if that's because of something that happened or because that's just her personality. Either way, it's interesting.

Ahaha, Scorpius and Rose have the best banter. They're both so stubborn and secretive. I love the multiple face-offs that they have, and how Rose refuses to concede. Something is definitely going on here with Abel--foul play, for sure, but also perhaps something with his brother. Was he blackmailing him? Is his brother a suspect? I feel like they should find Adam and question him first. The fact that they are kind of stuck together to investigate the situation is so great and I'm sure it will lead to more beautiful banter down the road. ;)

xx Gina

Author's Response:

Thank you! Rose is just...Rose. She's having a lot of issues making connections :/ Also, it's half and half.

I love how Scorpius is not letting her get the better of him here! You hit it on the nose

ah, muggle technology strikes again and wins where aurors and family members have failed in finding adam (though him casually wandering about diagon alley doesn't seem like he is hiding all that much). hah but adam also seems quite familiar with muggle technology, at least with this tracker, so obviously he wanted rose to find him. oh wow okay it seems possible that someone else wrote that note and signed it with adam's name if he's not playing dumb right now. omg he thinks that his mother killed both his father and his brother, this is wild. but also not totally outrageous, i don’t think at least. :EYES: SCORPIUS AND ROSE FUCKED AND UHH THAT EXPLAINS A LOT :EYES: hmm okay rose getting arrested is not great but i don't doubt she'll figure something out with all that.

(for foxy glory!)

Author's Response:

I love muggle technology!! I mean, just regular us technology, but muggle nonetheless. But yeah, Adam isn't as dumb as he should be considering how much of an ass he is. I love how much faith you have in Rose :)

i really feel for scorpius, especially when he's at the bar getting the cake and just,,trying not to order a drink even though he's itching for it. it's so damn familiar :| (also poor guy has a resting bitch face which made me laugh but lol it's hard to go through life cursed with people always thinking you're angry or upset with them). and he also might have a tiny little crush on rose, i mean thinking how you like the way 'fuck' sounds out of someone's mouth is pretty telling haha. and oh wow, mrs. geronimo apparently knows where adam is, but she and victor have some shady business they're talking about :eyes: and oka i legit laughed out loud at rose's answr, oh yeah, i wanted to help with anna, but also question her while she's drunk omg.

(for foxy glory!)

Author's Response:

Ack, I'm sorry :( These parts are really hard to write, and I can't wait for him to be better. I had to lighten it up with the signature Malfoy scowl ;) Yes, um, there is definitely something there as I'm sure you have now found! Totally Rose, just out looking for the truth.

Ooooh, this is intriguing.

There's so much on my mind! So Rose dated Abel at one point, but they had since broken up, yet he came to her office when he knew he was being followed. Is this because he still trusted her or he just knew she was a good private investigator? He seemed a bit hesitant to walk back into her life, and Rose seems hesitant now to be at his funeral. Clearly she's a bit out of place there, what with several people asking her why she's there. Is she really there to pay respects, or is she investigating?

You've done a great job introducing us to this cast of characters. I loved all the details, like Mrs. G using the rosary as a routine to ground herself, and Anna acting like she owns the place, demanding Rose join them afterwards. Mr. G seems like quite the ass. I like how you explained Scorpius and Rose's relationship, that she tolerates him because he and Abel were close. There's so much care in every word. It's such a masterful introduction. You create mystery and intrigue, but you also develop characters really well.

That last line was so funny, but also, WHAT? He gave 12 million galleons to a brother that can't even go to his funeral? Something is afoot! I hope Rose can figure it out. Also, if she is able to determine what happened, does that mean she is going to get some of those riches? Ooooooh.

This is awesome. I'm really enjoying this.

xx Gina

Author's Response:

There are definitely some issues between Abel and Rose, and those will be explored! And, it's a little bit of both ;) Thank you for the compliments! I hope you continue to enjoy in the future :)

i find it interesting that rose thinks her cousins and friends care that much about the fact that she supposedly didn't meet her parents' expectations of her, like, i doubt that's actually true, so distancing herself from them, and thinking how xavier and nora were better for her in that regard because they just knew (this) rose, not the rose who didn't meet those super high expectations. she seemingly has all this residual self doubt, but i have a feeling the others don't see it like that at all. it's good that she'll be going to mariah's birthday party and try to hang out with them. rose not really being able to remember what adam and abel used to fight about makes a llot of sense considering how much time had passed, but that last conversation she did remember has me all :EYES:

(for foxy glory!)

Author's Response:

This is a great point! I think she feels that pressure at all times, and her friends have sort of given up trying to fight her on it :/ Rose is unfortunately really difficult to talk to, but they still love her! It's hard to fight someone so averse to change (okay Ron's daughter, go off). And yes, I love dropping all these little hints; can't wait for them to come together!

Hey!

I'm back for the fairyland event! yay!

This was such an interesting story for fleshing out Scorpius' character, he obviously has a lot going on in his life, a lot of demons which I'm sure we come into story. I think it's bold choice to explore addiction from one of your leading characters, I was quite shocked to hear Rose directly refer to him as an alcoholic. It adds extra layers to scorpius' character, puts into prospect how he deals with certain things. The reason why he became a lawyer was interesting too. I think a good mystery needs fleshed out main 'detectives' to carry the story through. Rose and Scorpius are most certainly not the perfect pairing but I really like it. Rose obviously has a lot of devotion to this case if she's kinda willing to sit there with him until he can be more use to her. I'm looking forward to seeing them go hunting for Adam soon!

abbi xx

Author's Response:

Yes, Rose is very direct with Scorpius, and I think it is because she projects how she feels about her mother onto him. Someday Rose will realize how much she hurts Scorpius by speaing to him like that, but for now, she will continue to be tactless and traumatized by her own experience with addiction.

Hey!

I'm here for the fairyland reviewing event!

What a cool chapter, I love that Rose is just so strong, she has this drive force behind her. I wouldn't want for her to be on my tail if I'm honest. The 'loo' trick is the oldest in the book. I love how Rose is kinda brash, like clever but she's not that sneaky about things. I really love the strong characterisation for her that you're portraying, it's really effective and makes her a very memorable version of Rose.

I thought her conversation with Anna was an interesting one and shedding some light on the situation. THE MYSTERY NOTE. OMGZZZ. Abel's brother is very interesting mysterious character so I'm looking forward to getting him into the story to see what background is on this black sheep. I bloody love how everything Rose does come back to Scorpius like she always ends up needing him even when she needs she doesn't. I love that dynamic, it's like they're playing chess together, so many undertones in their reactions and trying to out do each other. it's very fun.

Thank you! Rose is brash, that's a wonderful word for it. And I love Anna nd Rose interacting :)))) my two lovely, strong, problematic women

so auror (detective??) xavier is very much into rose, and i love that he lets her into a supposed part of a crime scene house thingie in france, where rose of course does find something and that's the coat from the video. i love that xavier ended up sort of distracted with sex so rose didn't have to lie to him too much, but still, i wonder what the coat means and where adam is. is he hiding from the authorities because he's guilty or because he thinks they htink he's guilty and he doesn't want to give them the opportunity to even accuse him of something? either way, he seems hella fucking shifty even if he didn't kill abel

(for foxy glory!)

Author's Response:

Xavier is awesome! He is a rule-abider, and Rose is the one thing that kind of takes him off the rails. He lets himself a little loose around her (clearly) You will find out more about that coat in the future! THe most mysterious of all coats :)

at this point, i feel like rose trying to find abel's murderer, solve the case and figure out what happened, really focusing on that, is her way of dealing with grief she feels for abel's passing, even if that grief might beburied deep within her. i like hugo, he seems like a cool younger brother, and he obviously cares about rose and knows her well enough that he knows she's been furiously repressing her grieving feelings. and isn't it typical that hugo, her younger brother who knows her so well, also knows exactly the wrong (right) thing to ask? he just wants to help her, but yeahh, rose does not seem like someone who would ask or really accept help, at least not in that way.

I do like glimpses into people's careers, see a little bit how it works and what they do, and so it was exciting to read about Rose's beginning of the investigation. I mean, the whole thing is quite weird and unnerving and it seems like this Geronimo family have complicated ties and relationships? I mean, Scorp's last comment about Mrs. Geronimo indicates that, though that may just be because Rose is Abel's ex. That's another strange yet refreshing thing about the story I like, the angle of an ex-grilfriend investigating the murder of her ex. And it seemed to me like she and Abel may have parted on good terms? Though I'm not sure, it wasn't stated. Ah, there's so many things I want to know and questions that keep opening up, it's really cool.

i'm laughing at rose visiting *yet another* mansion, idk, just that comment made me laugh, like most of the story is a little grim with abel's death and the investigation and intrigue, but i love when you sprinkle in these humorous lines in the story. (along a similar vein - describing draco malfoy that he always seemed to exist with some sort of disdain for the world is another that made me giggle because, yeah, that pretty much checks out for draco and i just,,,very much love rose's narrative voice). i feel a little sorry for scorpius, he obviously has a drinking problem, though i can definitely understand him, poor guy. i love that rose decided to stay and keep him company though, that’s,,weirdly nice of her.

Eeeeeiaaaa, okay, what a great chapter! There was great dynamic and just enough background to establish the history between Scorpius and Rose and others, and Abel of course. And again, I got very excited when Scorpius and Rose stayed behind together. I know I'm supposed to be focused on the murder plot here, but I do like them together very much and I'm super here for every little romantic hint, ehm. But as for the plot, it is getting more and more intriguing, like the last minute will, and the strange requests and then if Rose says it was foul play then I believe it is. Oh, the last line of them just settling on the fact that they're now partners was well placed and timed. Great job so far!

lol love the way rose is still trying to get mrs. geronimo to talk to her alone, without the others listening, after she's made it very very clear she does not like her one tiny bit but rose is persistent, i'll give her that. and right now, mrs. geronimo isn't a fan of scorpius, either oops. oh wow anna is really hiding something, and it's bad enough that the moment rose mentions the mysterious person and the note, anna wants to speak to her lawyer, this is very shady and shifty and i'm all :EYES: oh and it's adam! the plot really thickens with the estranged brother coming home, and he wants to talk about dad/mr. geronimo, who rose also thinks was killed, how exciting.

Hi, I'm Eli and here for the fairyland review event.

I've been peeking at this summary for a while now, it's wonderfully intriguing, and this was a really great way to start the story. I'm immediately pulled into the scene, you've done so well describing it, like Abel's mother wringing the rosary in her hands, and Rose feeling stifled by her scratchy turtleneck. I wonder how she's really feeling about it, she does seem to feel quite blase about the whole thing.

My heart jumped when Scorpius appeared there next to her. They seem to be on good terms, there is a certain distance and civility there perhaps? I wonder what their friendship's like, but I guess this wasn't the place to go deep into it.

I'm super curious to see where this goes and what has the death of abel just started.

i love that little analysis of scorpius at the start of the chapter by rose - i feel like she's pretty much on point, and we haven't seen much of scorpius's point of view, but it seemed to me that when he was talking to rose in her office, yeah, he might've been a little snarky, but underneath it all i felt like he was genuinely hurting because his (best?) friend is dead. so him following rose, and wanting to uncover what happened to abel makes a lot of sense. and mrs. geronimo really really dislikes rose, scorpius was obviously right in saying she wouldn't have talked to her if she'd come alone. lawyer!scorpius is pretty damn badass!
