Reviews For Fake It Til You Make It

Yay for nonsense! It is refreshing, first of all, a Scorose where they’re friends, instead of enemies to lovers (even though, the love-hate is always a super fun time and I am absolute trash for it). But here, where they’re friends but it turns out Rose is still carrying a torch all this time (which makes her somewhat questionable decision to agree to this scheme, finally make a bit more sense in the end).

But I mean… I’m thinking all that time Scorp felt something, too, because why else would he have pulled out all the tops with that mega dramatic proposal?

Best part, tbh, has to be when they announce it at the Burrow and everyone’s just like, “Cool, finally,” and the prank falls totally flat, hahaha. Awkies…

The last line makes it, I love it.

Hi Madi! I'm stopping by for BvB and the HC Final! :)

This was fluffy, heartwarming, hilarious, and just an all-around fun and pleasant read. You always have a talent for balancing narrative and dialogue, and this was no exception. You gave us just enough detail to set the scene and establish the characters, but it never once dragged or felt bogged down. This was perfectly paced and I was honestly grinning like an idiot by the end of it.

I like the way you took the fake-dating trope and implemented it in a new, fresh way. Kicking it up a notch to a fake engagement was already unique, but the fact that it completely backfired on them in such a way took it to a new level. And of course, it happened in the most Weasley way possible, with the entire family being like, "Yeah? And?" It was hysterical. XD I think what really got me though was how they then tried to back out of it. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

The characterization throughout this was fabulous. I loved how similar Rose and Scorpius were, most notably about how they were both relatively blind to their obvious feelings for one another. Even the minor characters here, like Audrey and Hermione, had something that fleshed them out a little bit.

Well done, as always!

Cheers,

Reilly

I'm still cackling at that ending!

This was a very fun read and the chemistry between Scorpius and Rose is definitely there even when they weren't fake dating! I've never seen Hadestown but I've heard of it and so when the two leads started the singing I was like NO WAY THIS IS HOW HE IS FAKE PROPOSING, ohhh what a champ!

To be honest, I'd be a lot like Rose though if someone got me tickets to a sold-out show!! Bless her, she absolutely adored that!

I completely panicked when Astoria was there at the family gathering, like, ABORT ABORT! Then I started cackling again because everyone was just WAITING for the announcement and I absolutely died! XD I was in a relationship like that once and my boyfriend and I thought we were being secret but when we announced it officially everyone was like ABOUT TIME and we were like WAIT WHAT XD

So cute that they actually got together at the end and no one was mad, yey!

This was very fluffy and adorable and made me laugh a lot! :D

hi madi - here with your challenge review!

i'm super pumped to see what you do with this prompt - it's such a fun one and works perfectly for scorpius and rose. I love how this starts, with scorpius just completely fired up and making a scene about something albus has done. and then he throws out his idea, and rose’s response is just absolutely hilarious (‘are you effing kidding me’ is just about the only proper response to this proposal anyways) - but of course, she cracks eventually.

and this fake proposal… it’s really something. it’s so over-the-top and well-executed that you can immediately tell that there’s a level of this that is absolutely not faked on either of their parts. scorpius is pulling out all the stops despite admitting himself that he’s not the most romantic person, so it’s pretty obvious already that he’s got some untapped feelings for her. (although damn dude, you’re gonna be screwed if you ever have to eventually propose for real, because how do you top this??) also, they get home and scorpius starts giving her a foot massage? LOCK THAT BOY DOWN, ROSIE.

and then, despite the insane amount of effort they’ve put into this prank, the entire family gives them absolutely none of the reaction they were expecting. their shock here as they realize that this plan has completely backfired is hilarious - although they really should’ve known better, their whole family already assumed they were dating, so this is, you know, the logical next step in that.

then in the next scene, scorpius makes a long speech about it being faked, and once again… totally unexpected reactions. (shoutout to albus for announcing what I totally already knew - and, you know, everyone but rose already knew) but it’s all okay because then rose finally admits her feelings! and scorpius kisses her! and they maybe just stay engaged, or at the very least, only stay un-engaged for a short while longer! it’s the perfect ending to this ruse - and it’s only fitting that albus would’ve managed to get the whole thing on video - he seems to have a knack to make all these situations even better, haha.

wonderful story, madi - thanks for entering my challenge! <3

Hey, Madi!

I love a good fake dating trope! And with Rose and Scorpius to boot! This fic took me right back to when I first started reading fanfiction - what a trip down memory lane. Although, back then, there was no social media.

This was a really enjoyable one shot. Love the fluff! Rose thinks Scorpius is the dramatic one (which he totally is. Omg that proposal was so over the top!), but Rose is no less. That disillusionment charm on her engagement ring was just too much! A match made in heaven.

I would've liked a bit more buildup of their feelings for each other. Of course, knowing the rules of the trope, I knew what to expect, but Rose's declaration of her longtime crush on Scorpius, and Scorpius returning her feelings came out of nowhere. I was a little surprised that they didn't monologue about their feelings all that much. And what exactly was Albus' prank? And why would it be such a great prank to get fake engaged? I might've missed the initial motivations for all of this...

Overall, a really enjoyable, fluffy read!

PS: I just started reading a novel with the same title as this story by Jenn P Nguyen. Was this story title inspired from that novel?! Because that would be a weird coincidence!
