The queen of Scorbus strikes again!
Kate, you are so good at this. This story is straight-up flawless. I loved it. The fact that you were able to write such a sweet story with such dark themes astounds me.
Your characterization of Scorpius and Albus is perfection. I'm not a fan of Cursed Child (at all, if I'm honest), but if it provides you with inspiration for these two precious idiots, I think I can forgive it. Because your characters are the most lovely, adorable babies that exist. The righteous anger that drives Scorpius to beat the living hell out of people who threaten Albus is amazing. And the care and concern he shows whenever Albus is sick or struggling...ugh. I just want to hold them both. 10/10, would adopt.
The plot here is such a great continuation from CC. You build on the bullying we know they were facing in such visceral ways, but it doesn't feel glorifying or anything like that. Instead, it's just a brutally honest portrayal of this time in Scorbus's lives.
You're amazing. Your writing is so high quality. Fabulous job, as always.
Best,
Emily

Hi, Kate! Here for the review swap!
I wish I could say I couldn't understand how this bullying got missed, but having been bullied myself in school growing up I know a lot goes under the radar. Not as badly as this, but still.
I haven't read Cursed Child since it came out so I had to take a few minutes to remember some of the events. However, I remember I shiped Albus and Scorp very hard, and this is not helping me do so less. I still believe they should have ended up together. Especially after that staircase scene. That was peek romantic cliche. Even as friends they're almost like some kind of soulmates they go together so well.
I also remember relating to Albus pretty hard. Being the black sheep of my family I really got his character, and I had hoped things would get better for him after the end of Cursed Child. At least here that doesn't seem to be quite true. God, I wish I could hug the two of them myself.
Wow, Scorp even threatened Rose over this. It really shows their bond that he's able to chew out the girl he has a crush on without a second thought here in order to protect Albus.
I could write so much more but then I'd be here all day. This was a lovely oneshot, and I'm glad you recommended it! Thank you for the swap! :D
Hi, Kate! Here for our swap! :)
Aww, their friendship is so cute! But honestly, I can't believe they would be bullied like that and no one would do anything... are the Professors completely blind? Wouldn't they notice Albus' state? Wouldn't they notice students getting cornered and beaten like that? I'm very disappointed, I hope those four got some severe punishment after all this.
It's been a while since I read CC so I can't remember who Craig is and what happened to him, but if he was a close friend of James and they somehow caused his death, I can understand that James would be conflicted about the whole thing... still, I can't blame Scorpius for being so angry about Albus not getting any support from his family... I'm very angry, too...
(Side note, I loved the opening paragraph, about Scorpius being the kind of person who tends to internalize his anger... I thought it was a great description, and so authentic, too... I'm a bit like that, so it just rang true to me... :P)
Other side note, I really loved this: "You - you can be - really - scary sometimes," he said between breaths. "Truly - brilliant - but bloody - scary." Like the line Ron told Hermione in year one when she petrified poor Neville... :P Did you do that on purpose? So funny (it helped lessen the mood a bit, which would be very much needed considering everything...)
This was a great one-shot! You really have a lovely style and your characterization is just so good! I really hope Albus will get some more help now, and that things will go better for our two boys from now on...
Wonderful job! Thank you so much for the swap!
Lots of love and snowball hug,
Chiara
