The story of Louis and Lysander is both heart-breaking because of the constant back and forth between them over the years, and yet, you paint the picture of their lives and the way they connect with each other in a way that doesn't make it so painful as it should be. In the end, somehow, even if not on the completely same page, they are there for each other. It's sad that it takes Lorcan's death to finally bring them to something more real between each other, but it's also wonderful that after all the months and years of stringing each other along they finally end up together for real.

Lysander's assertion that good things don't last long in his life is awful to read, for him to think that, but with the way his father (and family) is and then the death of his twin, I can understand how he might think that. But in all of that, Louis was there for him and it's beautiful that he managed to build up the courage to try and take the next step with Lysander, even knowing the way Lysander feels. I love that Lysander managed to get over his insecurities enough to say yes to Louis, it felt like the perfect ending.

Hi there! I'm stopping by for the Magical Menagerie!

This was beautifully written. Seriously. You have a particular talent for setting the scene. I could see and feel the seasons change because your descriptions were so vivid and rich. It was easy for me to immerse myself in your words.

This is a unique pairing that I've never stumbled across before. We obviously don't know much about whatthe Louis and Lysander are like canonically, but I like the personalities you crafted for them. They're very similar in some ways, yet wildly different in others. I couldn't help wondering if Louis was the more confident one because of that bit of Veela blood coursing through his veins.

My heart broke for Lysander throughout this. He clearly has trouble processing his feelings, and then to lose his twin... how much more can the poor guy take? :( I'm glad Louis was there to support him, and eventually give him the gentlepush he needed to realize that he deserves happiness, too.

I think what I like the most about this story is that it's about a same sex-pairing whose biggest issue... isn't the fact that they're a same-sex pairing. Does that even make sense? I just feel like so many stories out there (and I'm talking movies and published works) feature gay couples whose biggest problem is dealing with homophobia, and nothing else. They're depicted as not having the same problems that literally every couple faces. So, as sad as it was to read about Lysander and Louis missing out on so many years together because they just weren't falling into sync for various reasons, it was refreshing to read, not to mention completely realistic.

This was an excellent readfrom beginning to end. Well done!

Cheers,

Reilly

Hi Joey!  Here for RvG and the Magical Menagerie.

It's been so long since I got to read any of your writing, and starting back with a Louis and Lysander story seems like a great way to do it!  The pairing really drew me in, both because I love Louis and I've never seen this pairing before, so I was fascinated to see what you'd do with it.

The description at the opening of this story was really beautiful - it conjured some really vivid images for me.  At the same time, I appreciated the way that the second half of the sentences were sharper, building up that sense of urgency as Lysander rushes to Louis's place.

The way that the words spilled out immediately, before any form of greeting, was really effective.  It shows how worried Lysander is about his brother (and who wouldn't be?  It's terrifying news to receive) and also shows us the sort of relationship that Lysander and Louis have, that he can just blurt out his worries in that way and knowing that he can rely on Louis.

Ugh, Lorcan </3 I feel so sorry for Lysander here, particularly when he talks about his parents are coping with it.  I don't know how you cope with something like that, particularly knowing that Lorcan has been killed by injuries from something that he loves.

I felt quite sorry for Louis in this story too, to be honest.  The relationship - if it can be called that, before the end of the piece - seems to be quite unhealthy, more of a coping mechanism for Lysander than anything else.  I'm not sure whether they'll survive as a couple as the hope at the end of this story suggests they're going to try to, but I'm rooting for them.  Louis obviously cares so deeply about Lysander, and I think they could be healthier for each other if they were more open about their feelings.  I'd love to see you explore more of this pairing!

Hey Joey!

I'm here to leave you a review for the magical menagerie review event on the forums as well as for Gryffindor Red vs Gold January 2019. Have I told you lately that I'm super excited your back and happy to see your writing popping up again?

This is so bittersweet/leaning towards sad. The way that Lorcan dies is so tragic. I deal with decently severe burns on a regular basis in my industry, so imagining being charred the way he would've been is horrific. I hope the wizarding world had some method of knocking him out because otherwise he would've been in extreme agony.

I think it's sweet that Louis is there for Lysander. I mean their semi-relationship is a fairly unhealthy coping mechanism, but sometimes in those moments, unhealthy coping is better than not coping. I think the comfort that Louis provides really helps Lysander along.

The ending seemed a bit abrupt to me. I suppose I expected Lysander to put up more of a fight, but I'm glad that in the end he decided to give Louis a try in a more formal relationship. After everything they've been through together, I think he is deserving of that chance. I really like to think that it works out for them in the end.

Lovely work. I'm looking forward to reading more of your writing soon!

Hi Joey! :)

So I thought I'd let you know this is my first time ever reading a Lysander x Louis fic! I love a good rare pair, and I feel like the next gen kids really have many more opportunities for that than really Harry's generation does because there's so much more world to explore with them! Okay so this piece, while short, covers a lot of time and emotions for both Louis and Lysander, especially Lysander as he deals with Lorcan's severe accident, time in hospital, and then subsequent death. He's also dealing with his father's selective muteness, which I'm sure takes its toll on the family, but through it all Louis knows how to be there for Lysander, even if it does mean just taking him to bed so he can take his mind off things for a few hours and get some decent sleep. The mutual feeling of stringing the other on is so heartbreaking and the many months/years that go by after they discover their possible feelings for each other yet don't fully act on them just, ugh. SUCH GOOD WRITING. SUCH ANGST, JOEY! In the end though I'm quite happy you decided to make them a bit happier and together -- they deserve that much, especially Lysander. Happiness does come at a cost, and I think these two definitely know it better than most.

Great job with this, Joey! It's great to have you back :)
