Reviews For The Week of Unknown Pranks

Um excuse me, how have I only just discovered this?? It is actually glorious, I didn't expect to laugh as much as I did so I'm glad I got to read it! I'm actually in awe of how well the dynamics between everyone are written - Snape vs the boys, James and Sirius' friendship and how they bounce off each other, Dumbledore as the eccentric boss. I especially love the general vibe of the office. Usually when I read fics set in an office, there's never a strong atmosphere in the workplace, but this was so good!

It was just written so witty. For example, this part actually had me burst out laughing: "So, we've come up with a list," Sirius says, rather seriously. "Except we've already eliminated everyone from it." Honestly the boys are such dorks, I love it! And just the way they speak is done so well, I could practically hear their voices in my head.

I really loved the confessionals as well. They gave a really nice insight into the various characters and going-ons of the office. I particularly loved Snape and how smug he was in his. I could almost picture his smirk lol.

Anyways this was great so well done on a fab fic!

Truth time - I've never watched The Office *hides behind the water cooler* - sorry! However, it does mean that I go into this with fresh eyes and I adore the Marauders with everything I have, so great start! First of all, it was hilarious. I loved the asides and confessionals (I'm guessing this is part of the show), it broke up the scenes really well and let the story flow at a good pace.

There was so much I loved about this - Dumbledore-Flamel Parchment Company, what a brilliant name! The chair races - what fun! Also thought it was brilliant that Dumbledore wanted an invite to the next one, this - to me - is completely in character for him. The pranks were completely inspired! I loved the wrapping paper one - so simple - and of course, the naughty names!

"Would Remus be mad if made this guy our new furry little problem?" Sirius cuddles the lion cub close to his face
<< this is the cutest thing ever, but can totally see Sirius doing this for sure. Also, of course they named him Godric!

I loved that no one believed it wasn't James and Sirius and it was actually Lily! I thought it might've been Remus doing it without them actually. This was really well written and I thought all your characters were funny. Great job!

Hi Sarah!  Here for RvG and the Magical Menagerie.

This was hilarious!  I didn't know I needed a story like this in my life until I read it.  I've only watched a few episodes of the (UK) Office, but I loved the way that you blended the idea of this stationery company with the magical world, so we had this crazy mix of technology and magic and then the cast were all from the Order of the Phoenix.  Dumbledore in charge of the company made me laugh - I don't think I've ever seen a more unconcerned boss.  His reactions to the garden and the fact that he hadn't been invited to the office chair races were just perfect.

I loved the way that you structured this, too, with the confessional segments like with the programme, and the fact that we were guessing all the way through the week about who exactly it was who was pranking Snape.  It made me laugh so much - the first prank was impressive enough, and I did believe James and Sirius when they said they hadn't done it (mostly because I think they'd have been more eager to claim credit for it), but I had no idea who it was until the end.  The Prewett twins would definitely have been high on my list of suspects.

The way that the pranks just kept escalating and escalating throughout the week was great - I'm so bad at thinking of pranks and I'm impressed with how creative yours were in this story.  I kept thinking that there couldn't be any better pranks to come and you kept surprising me, and it made me laugh a lot how people in the office were so unconcerned about everything that was happening to Snape that week.

And it was Lily!  I really loved your characterisation of these characters and I love portrayals of Lily when she has a more mischievous side, and James's reaction to learning that it was her was so perfect.  I'd love to read more of these!

Sarah! Can you believe I don't think I've ever read a fic of yours before? That's wild. Well I am here for magical menagerie to shower you in reviews! God I have so many tabs open right now, my brain is so scattered, come on emma READ THE FIC. I remember you mentioning this when you were writing it! I love The Office (though I stopped watching it some time early s7, I think?) and obviously I love the Marauders so I am in for a TREAT.

I already love the very Office vibe you have in the first confessional -- for some reason Sirius's "every moment you spend with me is a gift" really nailed it for me? And then the way James and Sirius are like "quiet, this is an office" at Dwiverus's outburst is so just perfect. Oooh boy, okay, I can tell the confessionals are where this fic is really going to shine -- Snape's is PERFECT. Sarah I don't have ANYTHING useful to say about this fic but I LOVE IT PLEASE BELIEVE ME.

Remus is so long-suffering, oh no, is he the HR? That's so perfect!!! Obviously he is nothing like Toby -- wait no I take that back, Toby is the epitome of long-suffering. But at least Remus has friends. (Someone save Toby, honestly.) And Marlene! "Another woman in the office" "there are THREE OTHER WOMEN" I'm dying.

I love the idea that James and Sirius live together! And that Remus can't possibly have done the prank because he's bad at wrapping. I know that feel, Remus. (Is it going to be Peter? IS THE SECRET PRANKSTER GOING TO BE PETER?) HMMMMMM the name drop in the confessional makes me SUSPICIOUS.

I love the shift in dynamics caused by Dumbledore not being Michael Scott-like at all -- and the bigger spotlight you've given to the people who actually need to make sure the company stays afloat, which I feel we didn't get HEAPS of in the Office? It's been a while since I saw it though. Remus is like 90% of their impulse control and I love it.

OHHH MYYY GODDDD IT WAS LILY? I THOUGHT FOR SURE IT WAS PETER. I never pegged Lily as the prankster at all!! Aaaah. This was a delightful romp, Sarah, thank you for writing it!!

Hi, Sarah!

So, I thought I'd stop by your AP to wish you happy holidays and as a little thank you for stopping by my wishlist (and because it's scandalous that I haven't read anything by you yet... my apologies, dear...)

Confession, I'm not familiar with The Office, but I couldn't resist some Marauders humour... and I'm totally not disappointed, this was so much fun! :D

Poor Severus... what a week! :P All the pranks were genious, how did you think them all up? I always find so hard to come up with some good pranks... I especially loved the one of the mouse... and Godric the baby lion... ahahah, that was perfect! :D

It was also so much fun how everyone just assumed that James and Sirius were behind the pranks. Not that I'm surprised that everyone assumed that. :P And of course they would be so amused by the situation and so curious and clueless about who the mysterious prankster actually was. :D Their lists of suspects, and the "apology" to Peter because they don't think he would be bright enough for it... :P Also, I loved Remus' exasperation... I just always love Remus, can't help it...

And Dumbledore, and Moody! All your cast was just great, such wonderful cameos of all the characters! Really, everything was just so good!

And of course the final reveal. And James declaring that he's in love with her! Perfect! <3

I had so much fun reading this! :D

Lots of love,

Chiara

o7 I'm here on Niffler expulsion duty! Also, I'm so here for a Maraudering The Office AU.

And oh my gosh you've integrated The Office - style humor in this so amazingly, while simultaneously bringing out some unique characterization -- and it is working so well. I'm loving the plot, too -- while James and Sirius would be your typical suspect, it turns out, someone else has already beat them to the prank. BUT CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE CONFESSIONALS -- you're killing me.  The James-Sirius dynamic in this is AMAZING.

Their entire state of nonchalance when Snape confronts them has me in stitches. The two work so well in tandem in this that it creates this natural flow because they are in lockstep, on the same page, at every moment and it's freaking beautiful. You have to write more Sirius and James, all the time. And then bringing Remus in as the voice of reason adds a whole new element -- and I can't blame him for not wanting to fill out all the paperwork that would come along with James and Sirius's murders ;).

We've come up with a list -- and eliminated everyone from it.  SARAH you're killing me. And oh my gosh -- James and Sirius should never -- ever -- EVER have a pet lion. Dear Merlin's smelly socks. That's never a good sign. And Severus Snape will never, ever get any work done. I feel bad (but the pranks are hilarious -- so I'm a bad person because that makes me feel slightly less bad). I mean, if I had Sirius Black plastered all over my work desk, I'd find it hard to concentrate, too...probably for different reasons.

AHH it was Lily! I'm crying.

This was amazing! Where are more parts? I need more parts! xx

Hey!

So I thought I would finally come and check this out! I'm a big fan of the office but I don't tend to read AU so much but this worked so well!

The characterisation in this piece is amazing, the duo of Sirius and James just works so well. I think everyone just bounces off each other effortlessly and the dialogue is really fun but it just comes off being so natural as well. I just love the little details which have little HP world links too 'Dumbledore-Flamel Parchment' is brilliant. I adore how you balanced all of those AU/HP touches in there. Pete as a Kevin style character!

I love the dynamic between Marlene and Lily especially their Confessional together. it's nice that Marlene has taken Lily under her wing. I love the way you write Marlene, it's got a sense of fun around her. I love the last prank with James and Sirius' faces on his table. OMG. LILY IS THE PRANKSTER. I love that!! Lily is so awesome! I'm so happy that we get to see Lily being fun and awesome but sometimes she is portrayed as too sensible in my opinion.

my fave confessional is without a doubt - "I was supposed to give a talk this week about wasting time in the workplace," DYING.

I'm feeling very excited about this sequel now. This was so fun, cute and I just needed this in my life right now. thank you!

RvG November - Team Gold

Sarah! Here for Oct. RvG - Team Gold. And I've really wanted to check out this fic, especially since I've been on an Office kick lately.

This is the fluff I didn't know I needed in my life, hahaha.

James and Sirius have great chemistry together. They will make the greatest pet dads. (At first, I wanted them to name to lion cub "Harry" but the name "Godric" is also amazingly brilliant. Though Godric, Drizzy... interesting leap there, Sirius.) And I can see Remus as Toby. Their dynamic is so, so good.

Dumbledore is the boss I never knew I wanted. Is it too late to aspire to work for someone like that? And Dorcas and Marlene are amazing, too! I love how you give Lily so little attention in this fic, too, since she's the Mystery Prankster. It goes to show how little James and Sirius think of her mischievous ways before the end of the story. It made my heart so happy to read how coolly she plays down her pranks and the instant crush James has--SO CUTE.

Okay, I feel like this review is rather rambling, but how can it not be when there's so much cuteness and fun and humor compacted into one fic? I can't wait for the next update. You have a knack of writing humor, Sarah!

Hi Sarah here with your extremely late review! :)

So first of all, love the concept. The Office is just great and thte fact this is Marauders is just perfect. Your biggest concern was flow of the story and honestly it works because of the format of the TV show being very abrupt with scenes as well. To expand, the sectioning of the actual scenes with the confessionals. James and Sirius both as Jim Halpert and Lily as Pam (I think, soz, I'm not great at remembering everyone's jobs on the show) is so great for all of those characters. The tormenting of Snape as Dwight is good too, especially since it's a little different type of reaction for him to have to being pranked from canon. It's refreshing to see Snape in a different format, especially one so silly as a The Office AU!

The fact that it's an unknown person doing the pranking instead of James and Sirius for the whole week is so fun and makes everyone's reactions more ridiculous than they already are. Furthermore, James and Sirius being so completey perplexed as to who could be pranking Snape, and it fits SO WELL I LOVE IT. Marlene is also great and so is Dorcas, really just everyone is written so nicely here and they all have their roles within the office. HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT REMUS HE'S GREAT TOO OMG! EVERYTHING IS AMAZING, YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB, SARAH!!

LOVE YOU BYE! <3

I think I've seen only a complete season or two of The Office, but I definitely have the habit of going on Youtube and just watching random clips of Jim pranking Dwight. It’s hilarious! Jim is so clever with his ideas, and Dwight gets so angry! I like how you transferred that aspect into James/Sirius and Snape.

At first I wasn’t sure if I liked the AU-ness of it (but that’s more of me not being a big AU person), but by the end I really enjoyed it. You had a nice balance of magic and muggle. You incorporated magic into Jim-like pranks. It’s pretty funny!

You said that you’re going to do more? I hope you do! There’s so much material for The Office, you could go on forever! And I personally love the Marauder era, so pretty much anything with James/Sirius/Lupin/Lily in, I’m game. Just out of curiosity, are you going to write the prank Jim does when Dwight freaks out about drugs? Or the one when Jim poses as Dwight? Or when Dwight conducts his own impromptu fire drill? Oh! Omg, what about Creed?!?! Please, yes!?

Author's Response:

Hi there! I'm glad you enjoyed the story! One of the fun things about this was The Office is that I feel like you don't need to have watched the show to still have some knowledge about it, you know? I'm glad that even not having seen a lot of the series all the way through, you were still able to see how a lot of the aspects from the show were able to be intermixed in the story. It's definitely a fun universe to work in for an AU and I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

This was loverly. I enjoyed how you kept the characters in character! That can be hard to do sometimes. I loved how mystified James and Sirius were throughout the whole story. It was like a light bulb coming on at the end. Would Lily have really done it canon wise? Possibly. She'd had a lot of learning watching the others throughout the years in Hogwarts and beyond.

I absolutely loved your Snape. Poor wizard can never catch a break anywhere, can he? He never got the girl, then had to babysit her son during his years at Hogwarts and then sacrificed himself in the end for said boy. The boy (except for his eyes) looked so much like his father he must have felt squiggy each time he looked at him!

So, yeah, Severus "Snivellus" Snape is my absolute favorite character in the Harry Potter universe.

Remus was on point as the long suffering Marauder, and I do feel he felt some sympathy for Snape. Or is that just wishful thinking?

I think you picked the perfect positions job wise in your AU situated fiction. Albus, though in charge, still twinkled and still let his Gryffindors get away with it in the end. Maybe because he suspected the one who was actually the culprit?

Thanks for writing such an adorable fanfic. I'll be on the look out for the sequel (or sequels) with anticipation.

juls

Author's Response:

Hi juls! I'm glad you enjoyed this! The characters were surprisingly easy to keep in character! They just naturally matched up well with counterparts, and then I just needed to do a little tweaking to keep them more themselves! I'm glad you liked Snape here! He definitely couldn't catch a break this week! It was fun to write him, James, and Sirius all togetherm especially because James and Sirius were so baffled about what was happening. Poor Remus is definitely the long suffering Marauder who does feel (at least a little) sympathy for Snape and also knows that this is a workplace, come on guys. And classic Albus, looking just the other way! I'm glad you enjoyed this! I'm working on the next part now, slowly but surely! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Hi Sarah!

This is a crossover that I never knew I needed, but now that I’ve read it, I absolutely cannot imagine living without. Seriously, this is golden. The Harry Potter characters fit into their various Office counterparts SO WELL. I love the level of detail you’ve gone into with matching everyone up to their characters (Remus as Toby is HILARIOUS and so fitting because he’s always the one reining everyone else in.)

I really love that you’ve made a world where both magic and technology can coexist - it makes for some super funny moments, like the tentacles sprouting from Snape’s keyboard, and the mouse clicks sending off spells.

The actual plot of the story is great too - the fact that someone’s just suddenly pranking Snape and it’s *not* the usual suspects. I  had a pretty good feeling it was Lily from the beginning, so I love that my guess was proven right, haha. Although now I do want to know, what did Snape do to deserve her pranking? Or did she just decide that she finds him just as annoying as James and Sirius do?

I loved the way you ended it too - with James just casually being like ‘I’m in love with her.’ It’s so fitting for his character, honestly.

As for the flow, which is what you’d asked me to comment on, I think it’s perfect. The whole thing flows like an Office episode does - the confessionals fit right in with the events of the plot, but don’t feel like they intrude on the events of the story.

I really hope you write more of these Office AUs - this was SUCH a fun read!!

-Taylor

Author's Response:

Hi Taylor! I'm glad you liked this! Honestly, I had no idea that all of the others would match up so well. Like James as Jim (and Sirius too) and then Snape as Dwight was obvious and then Lily as Pam was pretty easy too...but the others just seemed to naturally fall into place once I started working with them! It was a lot of fun to write! Remus is definitely Toby--it's practically canon! I love that you were able to guess it was Lily from the beginning! I felt like it was kind of obvious since it WAS none ofhte usual suspects, but she does play such a minor role in this because it's all from James' POV. And yes, of course it's so James to just drop that he's suddenly in love with her. There will definitely be more follow up on that with future Office AUs (and there will be more Office AUs)! I'm glad you enjoyed this one so much! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Omg. So I know  we've only just met but can we be best friends please? XD This story is hilarious, and you are so clever for thinking of it, and where has this story been all my life.

Also hi this is for review tag.

I've never seen anything like this before, and as soon as I saw the summary I had to read it. I loved The Office, and I think you did a great job keeping the spirit of the HP characters as well as the spirit of the show, with the bit where they talk to the camera and everything. This is exactly what I'd imagine of a office beset by pranks in the magical world. And they were such clever pranks. I loved the clicking firing off random spells, haha. And Dumbledore requesting an invite to the next Chair Races in exchange for overlooking office misdeeds is hilariously random, and also seems like... not that out of character for Dumbledore, who has been known to reward rule breakers with 50 house points. :p

I absolutely cracked up when Marlene said she bought an elphias doge bag. Like... why not? Why wouldn't he be an esteemed bag designer? Just... ahahaha, it was so funny.

And I love how it was Lily who was behind it all! And that that was what caught James' attention and he got an instant crush on her. Of course XD

This was such an entertaining read!; I loved it! Bravo!

Author's Response:

um YES of course we can be best friends! I'm totally just picturing the scene from Stepbrothers right now. "Did we just become best friends? Yup" :) Anyway, I'm so glad you liked this so much; it was such a nice review to read and I loved it so much! The Office is definitely up there on the list of my all-time favorite shows, so I'm glad you thought that this stayed true to both the show and the HP characters. I originally had the idea for the Marauders the Office AU while watching the Office and was like James is Jim, Snape is Dwight, and Lily is the Pam and then the more I started to work on this, the more some of the other characters just seemed to fit, which is totally how moments like Dumbledore overlooking office happenings in exchange for an invite to the next Chair Races happened. I'm really glad you enjoyed this! Thanks for reviewing! -Sarah
