I am honestly speechless.

I think you did a fantastic job writing this. Your descriptions were so evocative and poetic but not overly so in a way where even simple description resulted in such vivid images in my mind. At the same time, the piece felt really grounded and gritty (which, when you think about it, is actually rather heartbreaking because this did happen in real life). I think what got to me the most was the gradual increase in violence and the spiralling of the entire situation, especially section viii where events are listed one after the other.

Another thing I'd like to mention was Esther's character which I felt was really well-done. The way she tried to protect herself from the situation with distance but couldn't entirely manage it, the way she felt a certain disconnect and lack of belonging as seen by her lack of knowledge of Yiddish, and so on. I actually related to that bit a lot because as a Muslim, everything that's happening in places like Syria and Gaza really gets to me but at the same time, I don't understand Arabic and can only read it. It's a strange sort of conflict of the self.

Anyways, I just thought this was a wonderful piece.
