Hihi Nix!

I'm here for the Halloween Maze Task 1 activity! :D

I haven't read any of your Sirrah novel, but I do love reading short slice-of-life fics, and I think this little one-shot of yours here does count? I enjoyed reading this very much! I think it gave me a quick preview to your characters, and what they're like, and who they like!

You wrote the Spin the Bottle game with such a neat twist, and fitted it wonderfully to the magical world. Such a great idea that the bottle is enchanged so that if you agree to play, it kinda becomes a binding spell between players and the game.

And your character interactions are so fun and wonderful to read. I enjoyed seeing how meddlesome Sirrah was -- I'm a little suprised that the others played so cleanly and didn't do any tampering around like Sirrah. Or maybe they did?? And she was just better at spells than all of them?? It was fun seeing all their character expectations at the start of the game, and then at the end of the game, where nobody got to kiss who they wanted to kiss. Except Tybalt and Leighton. :D

I love the way you ended your story as well, with that incredulous 'That's  it?!" from Jenna, Fiona and Talon.

Overall, I think you wrote a very lovely and light-hearted piece and I enjoyed this very much. You have very interseting characters, and I hope to someday have the time to sit down and read your novel so I can get to know these characteres better.

Thanks for writing!

Author's Response:

Hello teh! Thanks for stopping by! I think this little one-shot is totally readable whether or not you've read Sirrah. I think this definitely counts as a little slice of life of the novel, but it just didn't fit in with the novel so I had to keep it separate. I really enjoyed writing this little snippet though and I'm glad you enjoyed it as well. I think it provides a lot of quick and easy to grasp descriptions of the Slytherins and their motives. Sirrah is a very meddlesome kind of person so I'm not surprised that she was the only one trying to manipulate the game. Thank you so much for this sweet review! I do hope you read Sirrah one day!

Hey lovely,

I will admit right off that I have not gotten around to reading Sirrah as of yet but this little one shot was fun.  I enjoyed it even if I lacked some of the motives that everyone has.  I admit it is intriguing to see how convoluted relationships even in the Slytherin house can get.  The dissapointment of the three who didn't get to kiss who they wanted amused me.

I will admit coming into this story I have questions that I am most certain would be answered in reading Sirrah.  It was a risk I accepted in taking the time to read this, but I think you'll forgive me that I went straight here considering the challenge that is going on the forums.

Still this was an amusing read and I loved the reactions to the less than desireable kisses and the magic on the bottle was a nice touch.  I also adore that the magic missletoe is a thing in other fics.  Nothing in canon acknowledges them but yet I have seen it more than once.  I remember coming up with it with a friend once - playing with it Marauder style.  (Not to say me and my friend are originators of the trend, I am sure others came up with the idea on their own too, and I love it.

Author's Response:

Hello! That's totally okay! I think this story is written well enough that you dont't technically need to read all of Sirrah, maybe a few of the first chapters would make it easier, but the only reason it's separate is that it doesn't really fit into the novel. I personally feel like all relationships in Slytherin house are convoluted, but this was definitely a lot of fun to write because of that. I forgot that I even mentioned the mistletoe in this story, but even though it's not actually mentioned in canon, I thought it was mentioned enough in fanfiction that people would understand the game better. I do like the idea of it as well, personally, although I could definitely see it going wrong when certain people get caught in that situation.

Anyway, thanks so much for the lovely review!

Hi Nix!  Here reviewing for the HC Maze (dungeon stories).

I have to admit that I haven't actually read any of Sirrah Malfoy yet but it's been on my list for a while now and I've heard lots of good things about it, so it was nice to read this as a snippet of the story and get a brief introduction to the characters, even if I don't necessarily understand all their motives and the background quite as much.

Having said that, I think you did a really good job of fleshing out this story so that it was a really easy read, even without knowing the exact context and being familiar with the characters.  I definitely felt like I got to see enough of the characters here that I could start to understand their motivations and the different feelings that were going on behind the scenes, so it definitely made sense reading this.

I loved Sirrah's narration here.  I got a really good sense of her character from this piece, and I'd like to read more about her.  Her style of narration is really engaging, and even though she doesn't comment very much on herself, we still get to learn things about her through this - the slightly sneaky side that she has in helping to nudge the bottle along, but so that she can help her friends out.  She's also really observant and I get the impression from this that she probably knows more about her friends than the rest of them have worked out :P

The opening to this was really engaging, too - you definitely captured the sense of excitement that teenagers have playing this game.  The dynamics between the characters were great - I loved Sirrah's protective side when she realised that Jenna wanted to kiss Tybalt and the fact she didn't want to let that happen.  All the little moments here and the kisses between the characters were really well written, and I'm already rooting for Tybalt and Leighton to become a couple (and Kenny and Talon, too, to be honest :P) and I'm hoping I'll get chance to read more of Sirrah's story soon!

Sian :)

Author's Response:

Hello! Thank you so much for checking this out. It really is just a little tidbit to the actual novel length story, but I'm glad it was still easy to follow even though you haven't read any of that. This was just a little snippet I wrote for a collab challenge so I didn't want to delve too deeply into the novel plot with this, it was just meant to be a quick fun read.

Sirrah is very engaging to read, but you're pretty spot on in that she doesn't always reveal much about herself, and focuses more on the people around her. She's very protective of her friends and very sneaky when it comes to her enemies and sometimes her brother, lol. I'm really glad you enjoyed the story and thought it believable and well written! I definitely hope you check the novel someday! But no rush, cause it's far from finished, lol.

Thanks again for the awesome review!

Hey, hunny! I'm here for the House Cup Maze #1 Task! :)

Unfortunately, I haven't read that far into Sirrah yet, so I probably won't catch all the motives, but I'm down for the ride, anyway! Though, from context clues I can kinda pick up on some of their motives. For instance, Tybalt excitedly anticipating playing spin the bottle with Leighton...because (just maybe) he'll get a chance at some smooch-action, haha!

But, oh no no no -- Jenna can't be eyeing Tybalt because of Tybalt x Leighton. Ohhh that's not going to be good. I do love that Scorpius's bottle spin landed on Jenna, though Fiona isn't entirely happy over THAT particular situation. It must be weird to kiss your best friend's crush, that's for sure. And then Fiona gets a chance at the bottle, only to have it land on Kenny, thanks to Sirrah's little incantation. :p Nothing like rigging a game of spin the bottle!

The Kenny x Talon kiss made me laugh! Go, Kenny, go! And yass! Another little rig of the game and Leighton and Tybalt get to kiss! Aww, a love the sweetness between those two <3. They're going to make a cute couple someday. I can FEEL it.

Fantastic job, dear!

Author's Response:

Hello again, Rumpels! It's totally okay if you haven't read all the way though Sirrah. I think you've read enough to pick up on the context. This was one of those things I wrote for a collab, but in the end could NOT fit into the actual Sirrah novel, even though I know WHERE it would go, that story just doesn't have time for it. But this was still super fun to write.

This is clearly a game being played for the benefit of almost every individual. I think Sirrah and Scorpius are probably the only two people not excited about this particular game. But I loved the idea of making spin the bottle into a wizarding game, even though Sirrah is still able to corrupt the bottle a bit. Sometimes, I wonder if she was in on the game somehow. Those sneaky Slytherins.

But I loved writing the drama of Tybalt wanting to kiss Leighton and Jenna wanting to kiss Tybalt, and Jenna kissing Scorpius, and Kenny and Talon having to kiss (I had to help him out somehow, also he had to kiss Jenna, so I figured he deserved some reprieve.)

But yes, I loved that Sirrah got to meddle in the making of Leighton and Tybalt kissing. She definitely wants those two together.

Thank you so much for the lovely review!!
