Ohh so Oliver ditched the quidditch meeting to sulk about Jane and Roger’s date? He MUST realise he fancies her, he can’t keep bossing her around. I liked that her date with Roger didn’t involve any quidditch talk and he seems to be really interested in her as a person rather than just a quidditch player and they seem to be getting on really well.
Right. So Oliver was being a bit of a weirdo in this - first of all I think he might have finally worked out he fancies Jane. HOWEVER, he’s totally going the wrong way about doing something about it. I mean he actually KICKED her, what’s that all about? It’s like they’re doing the whole thing that if a boy hits you it means they fancy you - like 8 year olds…
So the fancy dress party was hilarious, because most teenage girls would be delighted to be going to a Halloween party dressed as something sexy, but Jane wasn’t impressed with her nurse costume. She seems pretty angry in general lately, not that I can blame her, she’s having a pretty stressful time of things at the moment. Though I thought it was funny that Oliver asked about her family - he’s clearly trying to make a bit of an effort at least - and Jane was totally drooling over him. It’s only a matter of time before they get a grip and sort out their feelings. Hurry up with that please!!
I’m already jealous of Jane’s legs, btw. I wish I could add an extra five inches or so to mine - ha!

Ha I love that Angelina and Fred are together now - so that’s two of girls trying to tame the Weasley twins, but poor Alicia feeling all left out. I hope they don’t spend ALL their time snogging and some timing hanging out as a group of pals again.
Oliver is getting a little bit overprotective of Jane, which I’m sure is more than a bit irritating. Interrupting her date with Roger in the last chapter and now telling everyone she won’t date the enemy - not that it’s necessarily frowned upon, but she actually isn’t allowed! That's such a weird thing to suggest. I thought it was completely out of order especially because she’s only a reserve as well. Then suggesting she uses him to find out all the team’s secrets was even worse. He’s being a bit of an idiot in this chapter and really could do with sorting himself out.
I love your dialogue and think it’s really one of your strengths as a writer. Each character has a very distinctive voice and I can already hear who is speaking as you have such well-rounded defined characters already and I’m only four chapters in! I love Jane and how she's so angry all the time, hopefully she'll chill out soon!
I can’t wait to see where Oliver and Jane go from here as she now seems to be using Roger to annoy Oliver, so maybe on some level she kind of gets he might like her maybe? Who knows!! Also I love that getting a brew is classed as a date!

This was a really interesting chapter…interesting because Oliver is SO into Jane. I mean for someone so competitive and desperate for Gryffindor to win, he’s put Jane in as substitute even though she’s actually a terrible flyer. AND he lent her his broom, apologised and spent all his time in the Hospital Wing. I get that he feels super guilty, but still, he's making is absolutely clear to everyone that he likes her. Even the girls have started noticing that things are a bit different.
That thing at the end with Roger Davis and Oliver was very, very odd. Oliver is making is completely obvious he’s jealous that Jane is hanging out with him, but Jane still thinks he’s just being an arse, which I guess he is! He really shouldn't be sticking his nose in until he actually tells her how he feels. I wonder when they’ll both get over their issues and get together. I kind of ship them already!
I thought it was hilarious that Danny was throwing himself a party for making the team - I think he’s going to annoy people and maybe Jane might end up having to start future! If so, she really has to learn how to fly, so y’know, she doesn’t die.
Also, Katie fancies George - I LOVE THIS! I love the idea of her ‘taming a Weasley’ so I hope she’s up to the job. Ha! Can’t wait to see how that turns out! I can just see those two being a together forever type of couple. You could totally spin this off to be a "how to tame a Weasley" and I'd totally be here for it
I’m loving this!

Tasha here again for Magical Menagerie and RvG January - Team Red!
Janey is so angry! Oliver - as completely annoying as I'm sure he is - seems to actually want to help her learn to fly. The part where he was really helping and she was flinging insults at him:
"Balance on both legs, Perry."
"GO TO HELL, WOOD!" I did it though, balanced with both of my knees slightly bent. - had me cracking up. She must spend most of her time yelling her head off at him.
He totally likes her doesn't he? For someone who is completely quidditch and winning obsessed, he really wants her on the team even though it's clear she can't stay on a broom for love nor money. He just wants to spend time with her awww. Still, I wish someone would let these teenage boys know if they like a girl, being nice rather than an aggravating sod usually goes a long way. But what can I say, I'm a sucker for this trope and I know when Jane stops yelling so much, they might get on a little better. We can but hope!
Great job! xx
I'm here for Magical Menagerie and RvG January - Team Red!
First of all, I ADORE all your stories from back in HPFF days, you are one of my favourite authors so I really hope to see some more of your stories on here soon!
So, Jane and Oliver are so painful to watch, their friends must be demented by their bickering because it seems like they've been at it forever. Jane seems very stubborn and seems to actually really hate Oliver, which is a bit of a shame really. Though I did laugh when he told her he couldn't talk to her because she hates quidditch - obsessed or what! I think it's hysterical he's making her try out for seeker as a blackmail for not telling anyone she can fly, and then went and told Fred and George. He's hard work and I imagine absolutely infuriating at times. I love him!
Just a little note, it might be an idea to pop back in and check the formatting of this, the archives can be a little fiddly, but better spacing might make it a little easier to read. Just a thought!
I'm off to re-read the next chapter and possibly the one after that...

I just wanted to say that 2hrs ago I logged on to HPFF to re-read Keep Away and Hide and Seek. I do this 1 or 2 times a year, have done since I first read them when they were brand new, they are my favourite HP fanfics. When I saw that the site had closed down I went into panic, how was I going to go without my favourite stories??
For 2hrs I have been googling different things to try and see if you ever posted them elsewhere (for some reason this site never showed up for me?). I started to think I would never read them again, I genuinly got upset, I was gutted.
Then tumblr came to the rescue. When going through the HPFF tag to gain info on the closing down I saw someone mention this site. I figured it was worth a shot. I clicked the oliver/OC tag here and Keep Away was the first fic listed. I screamed and had tears in my eyes. God I know that is sad (the same thing happened when I found a book I had lost 6 months before) but I dont care. I am so happy to see your fics again!
hi!
i just wanted you to know that you were one of my favourite authors on HPFF and i'm really happy you decided to post your stories here as well.
i've read and re-read hide and seek&keep away (and also breaking the quidditch code and decoding the tutshill tornadoes) i don't even know how many times.
you are a great writer and this story is definitely one of my all time favourite fanfics.
I can honestly say that I don't think I ever read this story when it was originally posted over on HPFF. Which is a complete shame because I found this first chapter to be really interesting and I'm wishing that I would have found it sooner. However I am here now and very much enjoyed this first chapter of your story.
I'm really interested to see this new version of these characters. I feel like in the HP series we really don't get to know these characters well enough to really know what they were like individually or even as a group. Sadly Harry didn't really have much interaction with people older (or younger) than him so really the sky is the limit with these characters. I must say that I am a bit surprised at the characterization that we are seeing for Oliver Wood. The bits that I got of him in the books/movies was more of a humble guy but I'm still really excited to see where you will take this story and see the development in his character. Maybe as the chapters go on he wont be quite the same as this first chapter.
I do enjoy the whole enemies to lover trope (of course I must with dramione as my OTP) and I think that this first chapter did a great job setting up the premise for the story as well as giving me a decent amount of background information and getting a good feel for the mix of characters I will be reading about. If I had one thing to say as a critique for the chapter, I would honestly just suggest going back in and editing in spaces between the paragraphs. It can be a bit much to look at and makes it easier to lose your place without that separation. But honestly I didn't find anything in this first chapter that really needed to be fixed up or that didn't make sense. I look forward to reading more about Oliver and Jane.
