Reviews For Soft Around the Edges

Oh my gosh this was the cutest little story!!! I am inwardly squueeing! These are certainly the little things that can make a gryffindor a gryffindor, just being brave enough to talk to someone when you're shy. If I did a Marauders story I'd definitely want to include this kind of dynamic with Peter. It might even have to be from his point of view. I want to emphasize why he's friends with them and delve deeper into the betrayal because I just don't believe it was because he wasn't brave. There had to be another reason... Anyway, This was the sweetest! Really great job :)

Hi there!

I missed responding to this wonderful review! Thanks so much for all the squeeing!!! I feel like Peter got the short end of the stick in canon, as well as in fanon. Wouldn't it be nice to imagine that there was someone at Hogwarts that saw him for who he was and appreciated him?  If that had happened, maybe he'd have turned out to be more of a Gryffindor than we give him credit for.

Thanks for the review!

Hey Pix,

I'm here for gryffie review tag and I thought as you reviewed my challenge entry then I should return the favour by reviewing yours too!

I thought this was a really interesting concept because I've never read anything with so fluffy with Peter in but also focusing on a romantic love interest. I thought you did an amazing job at making both character's very realistic in their thought progress. This is quite a short one-shot yet I thought you were able to give Arlo a clear personality which can be difficult. I like how she describes Peter like she is really see him properly. I think that's true that sometimes seeing someone from a far that you see things that everyone misses.

I thought the addition to Marlene to the story was clever because I think it helped with fleshing out a bit more of Arlo's character by giving her character who is such a contrast to her. I'm pleased that Arlo found the courage to talk to Peter even after a less than warm greeting. It says a lot about Peter that he was so quick to believe Arlo couldn't possibly be interested in him. It's something that I also have in my head canon Peter (and also a love interest who helped his confidence). This piece was really adorable little snippet inside the heads of two teenagers and I'm totally here for it.

It was such a sweet read with quite a unique but simple concept! great job!

Hi Abbi!

Sorry for spelling your name wrong in the review.  Spellchecker likes to correct ALL the things, not just the wrong things, I guess.  Bleah.  Thanks for reviewing my challenge entry!

This was written for another challenge as well, so it did double duty.  I have NEVER EVER read a fluffy Pettigrew story in my life, so I figured that if I wanted to do something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, this would be it.  Although, the challenge was to make sure the characters were still real.  I'm glad that Marlene did her job for you. She and Arlo are so different, and she contrasts the loud, obnoxious, public image that Sirius portrays with how Peter projects... or rather... doesn't project.  Arlo appreciates the difference. And yeah.  All about the teenagers here.

Thanks for the review!

Hi, there, Pix!

Here to check out the entries to my Peter challenge! :)

Aww, cute! I loved how Arlo and Peter found each other, how they are both so shy and insecure... of course most girls would pine over Sirius and James, and sometimes Remus, and poor Peter would be the forgotten one... I loved that mix of incredulity, hope and confusion in realizing that Arlo was there for him.

I liked the juxtaposition of the two POVs and how similar they were. I loved this description of Peter "He had the look of belonging, but still with the sense of longing to belong" because it really does sound like him. I also loved Arlo's thoughts about the other boys and the girls who had won them over, especially Mary wearing off Remus, because I have a special love for Remus (maybe you knew that already...)

I loved Peter's section, too, and the way he shied away from his friends a little. I loved how the thought of a girl addressing him and just him, without any interest in the others, made him feel. I think it was also interesting that he was good at practical Transfiguration but couldn't grasp the theory, it's something that would have never occurred to me and I appreciated it because usually he's never mentioned to be good at something.

This was a funny read, I really enjoyed this little bit of romantic fluff, Peter deserves it!

Thank you so much for entering the challenge!

Lots of love,

Chiara

Author's Response:

Hi Chiara!

Thanks for hosting this challenge.  If it wasn't for you, I might have never written about Peter Pettigrew.  I can't believe that this fluffy thing came to me the way it did.  I never set out to write a fluffy Peter piece, but here it is.  LOL.

I did try to keep Peter's character recognizable through the candy floss lense.  That might have been the hardest part.  And yeah, I guess everyone deserves a bit of romantic fluff.  You're welcome, Peter.

As long as he doesn't ask for seconds, I'll be fine.  :P
