Reviews For Something Worth Waiting For

Hi Reilly! I am here from your forum request (and I’m  also here for June 2019 RvG, team Red).

This story is so sweet! I love how you’ve captured all of the wonderful chaos that is the Weasley family. The bit about “The Kids” being the youngest members of each family is adorable—as is the fact that they have to degnome the garden. It’s good to know that some traditions never die. I also laughed when George was throwing the gnomes back into the garden.

I want to give Teddy a big hug. I think it’s very fitting that he would be a Hufflepuff like his mom, and he seems to have a lot of the same, wonderful qualities of both of his late parents—he’s understanding, kind, warm—just the sort of guy I’d like to be friends with. I also love that he’s in Auror training—he must be tough too!

Victoire seems very self-possessed. I like that when we first see her, she is setting up chairs by hand and that when she is questioned as to why she says that she likes to do things the ‘slow way’ once in a while. I suspect she is a thoughtful person.

The idea of Bill and Fleur renewing their wedding vows—especially after what happened during their wedding—is so wonderful that it must really have happened! I got a very warm feeling at the thought of them all sitting there—and I also got choked up at the thought of the picture collage that would contain people who didn’t live to see this day (Teddy’s parents and Fred among others). I”m glad that Dom offers Teddy the picture of his parents. Any memento of them must be very precious to him.

When Victoire was so upset, I figured that her boyfriend had dumped her. But, good gracious, did he have to do it via owl? That seems not in the best of taste. I’m glad that Teddy is there to comfort her, and I have high hopes that things will move on from the ‘just friends’ stage soon.

I really liked the descriptions of the dance floor, with the ‘kids’ jumping and how Teddy and Victoire didn’t really know how to dance, but made do. They just seem so comfortable with each other.

I enjoyed this story very much! Thank you for coming by my thread, and feel free to come back any time! :-)

Yours,

Noelle

Hi Reilly! (Finally) here with your requested review. I'm so sorry it took me so long to get here!

I love the introduction to this chapter! It's so obvious the Weasley's are close and I love that they all make this HUGE effort to include Teddy in this. But despite that close relationship, there's this simultaneous distance between him and them (knocking on the door, calling her Mrs. Weasley, etc)-or maybe that's Teddy forcing the distance a bit? Regardless, they have some great banter here and it's fun to see a few of them interact together!

Ahhhh I love how you describe Teddy not knowing when he began to fall for Vic! It's such an interesting thing, a best friend falling for another like this, because when you're so close with someone already, it can be hard to tell if the feelings are real! But I love when you say "even when he's watching her doing something so mundane as setting up chairs", because in a situation like this, I think it really does show the difference between caring deeply and actually falling for a best friend.

Ohhhh I kind of suspected that Vic and Evan broke up when Teddy said she looked off but to just send her an owl about it is SUCH a... (i cant say this word on the archive so i'm going to settle on jerk) move! Dom was the ultimate sister though, totally all-knowing. Obviously everyone can see Teddy has been pining for Vic for ages except Vic. Dom is the perfect amount of protective over her sister; I love how you managed to portray their relationship without much interaction between the two!

Teddy SO DETERMINED to cheer Vic up, especially once he knows what's wrong! This ending scene is so cute. Teddy with his little awkward "...as friends" to quickly cover up asking her to dance. Vic finally laughing again--and the fact that Teddy couldn't be happier about it. A SUPER CUTE ENDING TO A SUPER CUTE STORY! Absolutely can't wait to read more of this series of fics! GREAT WORK!!

ReillyJade,

I’m here for your CoM reward review. Congrats on Claw of the Month--well deserved.

I remember reading chapter 1 of this and thinking, so where is chapter 2? So, now I’m reading chapter 2 and wondering how long I’ll have to wait for chapter 3. Your “mostly fluffy three-shot” is wonderfully addicting. I’m just trying to figure out why. Yes, it has a bit of angst, but I really think it’s Teddy’s characterization. Teddy is awesome in this. He’s so considerate, so worried about everyone else. Basically he’s the embodiment of his father. He is acts so much like Remus.

It’s the little things, the descriptive things that are make your writing so pleasurable like when Teddy always misses the path, creating a little dust storm or the family’s reaction to Fleur's expressive French.

You have created such a relaxed atmosphere of Shell Cottage. The Bill Weasley family is so fun and happy. They obviously adore Teddy and already consider him part of the family. I wonder if he’s considered more of a sibling or if some of them recognize that he is potential marriage material.

The Victoire you have written is an interesting twist. I always imagined her as self-assured, like her mother. I never considered she wouldn’t like to be the center of attention. She wouldn’t like to stand out and be special but it fits here. It fits well with their friendship.

Teddy understands her so intimately, like she isn’t really doodling, but making a serious sketch and her fears of being the only Hufflepuff from the family. He knows exactly when to push and when to leave her alone about the breakup. They seem to be two rays of sunshine that dance around each other, never quite realizing that they should shine together.

The kiss was so sweet. They both are so worried about ruining the friendship, so they completely bungled it. I could feel the horror wash over Vic when she thinks he isn’t interested and him with a stupid grin on his face until he realized his girl if halfway down the beach.

Great job. I can’t wait to the 3rd chapter! Will it be at Platform 9 ¾?

Author's Response:

Hi, Barbara! Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to review.

I think I'm one of the very few people who imagines Victoire as taking after Bill more than Fleur. I often see her portrayed as you described: confident and a fan of attention. And I absolutely love that version of Vic, too! But for me, she's always been a little more reserved, humble, and insecure.

Haha, yeah... some of them are very aware that Teddy and Vic are basically meant to be. Dom is, of course, and is honestly their biggest fan.

Yes, the third and final chapter will be at Paltform 9 3/4! I've already started writing it, and I can't wait to finish it. Weaving my fics with canon is my favorite thing to do.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Reilly

Hi Reilly, I’m finally here with your requested review!! I love Teddy/Victoire as a pairing, so I’m super excited for your take on them!

I love some of the family dynamics you’ve created here - Mrs. Weasley constantly reminding Teddy that he’s family and doesn’t need to knock, all the youngest getting referred to as “The Kids” even when Louis is technically older than Rose, George still causing trouble by adding gnomes back to the garden when the kids aren’t looking, Harry getting stuck in the middle of an argument between Ron and Ginny. They’re all such great moments that just fit those characters perfectly.

And gah, Teddy talking about how he fell for Victoire and all the things he likes about her is absolutely adorable. And the fact that he’s so perceptive and can tell that something’s wrong so quickly is just a sign of how close they are - although I wonder what’s got her so upset? I’ve got a suspicion that it’s got something to do with her boyfriend (who, for important Tedoire reasons, I’m hoping she’s going to break up with soon)?

I also adore that you’ve given us a nice little Bill/Fleur moment in here as well - they definitely do deserve a chance at a ceremony that’s not  marred by a Death Eater attack, and it’s lovely that they’re still so in love with each other after all of these years.

Oh no, her boyfriend did break up with her! I mean, I’m obviously a fan of this for previously mentioned Tedoire reasons, but she also seems genuinely hurt by it, and I don’t like that part for her. And I wonder what his reason was, that Vic didn’t even tell Dom? Is it something related to Teddy, or something else entirely? I feel like ‘I can tell you like Teddy’ isn’t a reason that would cause Victoire to keep it from Dom entirely, so I feel like it’s something bigger that that?  But also the fact that Dom can see right through Teddy is just great - she’s obviously close enough to Teddy that she can just tell he fancies Vic without him even saying anything.

Ahhh this ending was so delightfully fluffy - I love the two of them together and Teddy obviously knows her SO well and knows exactly how to cheer her up, and I’m so obsessed with them as a couple already. Vic obviously needs more time to get over her breakup (although not too long, they’ve only got a month until the Hogwarts Express his, after all) but I know they’ll be perfect for each other once she gets there.

I loved this first chapter - feel free to pop back in and request for the next one!

-Taylor

Author's Response:

Hi, Taylor! Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to review. I'm so happy you enjoyed Part 1!

Weasley family dynamics are my absolute favorite thing to write. They're such an interesting, fun bunch of people, and I enjoyed being able to experiment with all of them in this chapter, even if only briefly.

Your inclinations are definitely correct: Vic's reasoning for not telling Dom and their mother why Evan broke up with her isn't related to Teddy at all. I don't want to spoil it, obviously, but it's something that's forced her to think about who she is as a person, and she's really struggling with it. I'll leave it at that :D

Thanks again for this lovely review!

Cheers,

Reilly

Hi! I’m here for Magical Menagerie, and also because I don’t think I’ve checked out any of your stories before :)

I loved this, it was so fluffy! I’m a complete sucker for next generation, because there’s so much room for creativity and it’s fun to read different people’s different takes on it, and I love what you did here.

I think you managed to capture that Potter/Weasley family dynamic really well. It was the perfect balance between not over informing but still giving the reader a distinct feel for each character. Those little bits about the members interacting with each other added to the story’s uniqueness. Like, I love the idea of Audrey jokingly commentating and I can totally imagine Hermione and Percy discussing Ministry stuff. But you gave each person a bit of personality, however brief their mention, which I enjoyed. I think it was the perfect example of ‘show, don’t tell’, which is something I, personally, struggle with.

Okay, the actually important bit. Teddy and Victoire! I love their relationship here, especially the fact they both went to Hufflepuff. It made a refreshing change from the usual Gryffindor. It was so sweet how Teddy just wanted to cheer her up, even before he found out it was because Evan broke up with her (whoever he is, I don’t like him, he needs to leave...um, stay where he is in Spain). He doesn’t try to take advantage of the breakup but acts as a best friend should. In a romantic relationship, I think it’s always important to be able to understand each other first and you showed that. I know they’re going to get together (eee), but in that moment, even while dancing, they were best friends and I just thought it was wonderful.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to the romance part ;) Greta job so far!

Teddy and Victoire MUST get together. You have created such an adorable potential couple here. He has the angst, she has the unaware aura that just creates more angst in poor Teddy.

Besides what could be more romantic that marrying your best friend (I did!) and he's obviously already part of the family.

Oh darn, Evan. . . annoying boyfriend gets in the way. . . oh good, no more annoying boyfriend. All she needs know is to find someone who really appreciates her, will hold her and make her laugh. Oh wait, she has him. She just doesn't know it.

Will she realize her feelings in the next chapter? Will Teddy have to wait forever for her to be ready.  We don't know because you haven't published it yet! Please consider finishing it. I'd love to read it.

I saw this a couple days ago, and I wanted to stop by for this, too - you don't need to leave me a second review, I've been meaning to do so, anyway. :P

I love the dynamics you introduce here, and I'm really psyched to read more about them! That's true from the very start - Teddy knocking when Mrs. Weasley had told him multiple times that he didn't need to made so, so much sense to me. The Weasleys are warm, welcoming people who had loved his parents - but Teddy still feels just the tiniest bit removed from them, and that made a lot of sense to me. He clearly does feel very familiar with the family in general, though - the ease with which he and Dominique in particular talk is really evident, and I love the way she both tells him what's wrong with Victoire and calls him on his feelings.

And: I love his friendship with/feelings toward Victoire. You made how they fit together so, so clear - he thinks of her as being beautiful, and he does mention her hair and her dress, but it's obvious that it goes so much deeper than that. He's absolutely in love with who she is as a person, because he knows who she is as a person. I also loved how he tempered his protectiveness with respect - he's furious with Evan even before (especially before, maybe?) he finds out about the breakup, but he very specifically doesn't say anything about it, nor does he push for more physical contact when it's clearly not the right time.

You did such a great job here! <3

Author's Response:

Hi, Branwen!

This really means a lot to me, coming from one of the authors who got me into Tedtoire to begin with! Thanks so much for your feedback. It was a wonderful surprise! <3 :)
