Moments with Bram would always linger.
It was still surreal to him that there was someone else at his school who was in the closet just like him. His post on the Tumblr wasn't just about being gay; it was about loneliness, and about feeling like he couldn't be open to anyone around him.
"The only reason my parents said yes to helping us rent a condo was because it was my graduation gift and because there were six of us going so it was so cheap. I don't know if they'll pay the extra money."
"Same for my mom," Leah said.
"Well," Abby said slowly, "Why don't we see if we can find someone who wants to go instead?"
He felt like he was listening to the conversation from under water. A Dementor was definitely simple and badass. And Jacques said he went to a party on Halloween.
“…and my parents are shaking hands with Bram.”
He recognized Simon’s hair and his jawline almost immediately. His heart thudded heavily. Before Bram could say anything, Simon said, “Please don’t be weird, guys.”
By now, the sight of blue lightning shooting through the streets of Shady Creek wasn't anything to write home about. Bram still remembered a few months prior when his streak of blue lightning was simply something a few internet conspirators blogged about. Sometimes, Bram thought those days were easier than seeing his own masked face on the news every day under a headline that read, "BLUE CHARGE SAVES THE DAY AGAIN".
He didn't pick the name, but it was starting to grow on him.
The word secret went with Simon a little too well for Bram. Not even Garrett knew about his longstanding crush on Nick’s Hufflepuff best friend.

Leah stared at her phone screen, at the very first post on her Tumblr dash. Specifically, at her best friend's name. Her heart felt like it was in her throat.
“Pink Floyd and pajamas; big plans tonight I see,” Nick said.
Nora looked up. She already had her glasses on, and her hair was pulled up into a high ponytail. It fell over her shoulder in messy curls as she repositioned her fingers. “Says the fifth wheel.”
Simon thought about the emails. He thought about the carnival. About Oreo mush and Justin Bieber. About Blue and about Bram, and about being in love with Blue and being in love with Bram.

Five times Simon tried to tell Bram he loved him and one time he does.
In retrospect, skipping two days of lunch together gave six other AP English nerds forty-eight hours to figure out exactly how they wanted to make Simon and Bram’s return as embarrassing as possible.
“Did you guys just awkwardly sneak away so you could argue about what Harry Potter house I’m in? For two hours?”
Simon looked at Bram and Bram felt his cheeks flush.
“That’s exactly what we did," Simon said.
All of the baristas at the coffee shop on campus were ridiculously hot. Simon thought it must have been a job requirement.

“I like your rainbows,” Bram told him.
Simon looked down. “I like yours.”
Leah's comment really summed up what Bram was thinking.
The world just seemed a little brighter after you spent lunch kissing a cute boy.
His hands shook as he read the subject line time-stamped from almost twelve hours prior.

"If you like her, just ask her out."
Bram wasn't really sure how he got to this point.
